I would like to save my inventor Part and Assembly model file in a lower version. Like in our company we use both Inventor 2012 and 2010. Once the file is created in 2012 and when shared to 2010 users they are unable to open, is there any possiblities to open 2012 files 2010 like how we do in Autocad.

I changed the configuration in Tools/Options/Open and Save/File Save, to save as Autocad2004/LT2004 Drawing (*.dwg). But sometimes automatically the program saves as Autocad2013. It is critical for me because I work with people that still use Autocad2004.

I have created a parametric, multibody master part file to derive parts from it, and then put them in an assembly. See attached file. Now, I need 3 different versions of this setup (with different values of the parameter 'bending_angle').
What is the best way to do it? If I derive parts from it, they always follow the *actual* status of their master file. Is there some method to do this: "derive from this file, with parameter bending_angle=55deg", but keep the dependency relation, i.e. if I modify something on the master file, the derived part fill follow the modifications (with the value of bending_angle=55deg)

I have been transferring file between 2009 and 2010 version of autodesk inventor and all have gone hell, having a lot of freezup issues. recently i have got this message what does this means
"YOU are placing an educational version model into a production dataset. Educational version documents carry a watermark that is presented in all plotted or printed material containing this model. If you proceed, any subsequent plot or print of this document will contain that watermark. Do you accept the use of the watermark?"

Why am i forced to open up parts separately when trying to open my assembly. Once I open my assembly I get pop up windows asking me to either open, skip, or find the part it specifies.

When i started my assembly, i could see all of my textures. Today, it is so bright that i cant even see any shadows. doesn't matter which view i have, i cannot see the texture. there is a glimpse of it when i look iso view but that is it. I have tried altering the styles to reduce the brightness down completely but it has no affect. if i open another assembly file and place the same part, i can see the texture perfectly.
How can i change it back so when i look from the front, i can see the wood grain laminate that i am supposed to see. i have attached 2 images. the white one is supposed to be a brown wood grain laminate that is shown in the other image. both images where using the same style with the same setting and are the same material.

I would like to be able to the share external geometry of a fully assembled mechanical model without surrendering any part or assembly data. Is there a way to turn this assembly into an external surface "shell"…?

I have to get the printed paper model, and to assembly it within Inventor.
At the moment, I have the chassis, and next step should be a surface modelling.
But I`m not sure, which tool should I use. Chassis consist of some bulkheads, and there should be one patch between two neighbors. Patches are already printed:
So I have to bend them, according to bulkheads profiles.
Question is: how can I perform this step? I can`t realize, how to bend these patches, to stich two neighbor profiles. Is it possible for Inventor? Or should I use the authomatic surface fill, and texturing later?

I have a automated ilogic model that is then used within a 2D drawing, this 2D drawing then has dimensions on it referenced to the the model.
This model changes in its length the dimension associated with its length then changes but the dimension text then goes outside of the dimension boundary (does not stay central). Is there any code that can scan the dimensions and in effect tidy them up?

I'm working on an exploded presentation file and have finished all of the tweaks for each piece. One day, when I opened it up to do some work, there appeared a duplicate assembly model floating in the middle of my work space. The duplicate does not appear in the model browser and is completely Black. It dissapeared a few days later, but the next day, when I opened the file, it was there again.

I'm trying to extract the Rev of a model (part or assembly) from a drawing. Since Inventor has independent revs for the model and idw I am trying to drill down and put the rev from the model referenced. I got it to work for ipts and many iams using:
Dim oModelDoc As Document
Set oModelDoc = oDocument.Sheets(1).DrawingViews(1).ReferencedDocumentDescriptor.ReferencedDocument
The problem I have is when the drawing only references an ipn presentation file. The ipn ALSO has it's own independant rev! I'm trying access the model the ipn references but cannot get it to work.
BTW, I do know about the ability to sync idw and ipt properties. I have enable it for our template but we have a lot of legacy drawings that don't have this option selected. I also haven't tested that method with an drawing that only references an ipn.
Code is below with offending section in bold:
' Find model (part or assembly) referenced by drawing if active document is a drawing
If oDocument.DocumentType = kDrawingDocumentObject Then
Dim oModelDoc As Document
Set oModelDoc = oDocument.Sheets(1).DrawingViews(1).ReferencedDocumentDescriptor.ReferencedDocument
[Code]....

I'm using Inventor 2011 and when I go to change parameters using iLogic in an assembly model, (sometimes it is a component suppression, other times it is an iPart component change) it won't update the associated drawing file. I need to go into the BOM on the drawing and renumber the balloons, or change something else in order for the custom iProperties to update in the drawing template. If I just change the iPart component, then the BOM doesn't need to update making the renumbering of balloons redundant.
I'm using iLogic to update all of the iProperties and component references, then reattach balloons. What I would like to do is automatically update the custom iProperties drawing template fields, and renumber the drawing BOM.

I am trying to create a Treeview of Model tree which displays parts assembly...etc My code is working well and i am able to get the tree view, but the problem is how can i count the quantity of parts/assemblies and display as consolidated. For instance this below snapshot shows my treeview.
This above snapshot shows my output
Here besides all parts/assemblies i get Semi-Colons and Numbers rather than consolidated view For this part in fig
153049 QSL.1_8.8:1
153049 QSL.1_8.8:3
153049 QSL.1_8.8:3
153049 QSL.1_8.8

Existing Inventor files will not open in the same version of Inventor in which they were created on the same pc.
The error message reads 'database schema is newer than this version of software'
A sample file is attached. Is there an answer to this other than having an expensive upgrade???

I have drawings (some with more than one sheet) from inventor 10. Now I like to open it in inventor 2013. The first sheet is showing, but I can't open the other sheets. I can print them, but I can see a listing of it or go to the sheet.
FYI, until December 2012 I worked in Inventor 10, now I have inventor 2013, so everything is new to me.

is it possible to open all parts in an assembly at once?
I tried to select them all in the modelbrowser, and then open, but ain't working. I tried also with the design assistent, but also not working.
I will use this function to place all (open) parts from an assembly in one drawing. Then i am sure that i don't forget any parts.

I am having trouble opening an assembly I made on inventor in solidworks. First I drew a frame using just lines and saved it as frame.ipt
then I opened a new assembly and placed the frame.ipt into the assembly. Once that was done I was able to add a frame to follow the path of the lines by clicking "insert frame"
This assembly was called frame.iam
When I try opening on Solidworks it does not work. I clicked body and features and either way it did not work.
I have transferred assembly to solidworks before but I think I am having trouble with this one since I made a frame using inventor tools instead of just making every single part myself and then constraining it together in an assembly.

I understand that using Revit or something will work better but i was wondering if there was any way to import a Staad model into inventor. I understand that there is no quick fix as far as i know like changing the file extension but any luck using the frame generator on a staad stick figure model.

The right click context menu on the top level assembly (on the model tree in Inventor) has the option of 'Open Drawing'.
Is there a way to do that via iLogic? Unfortunately I can't figure it out if there is. I would like to open and update the relevant drawing.
Also have tried it the other way around, that is to run my rues in the assembly from the drawing since the drawing is the parent. But I am not sure how to reference the assembly.
