AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Control Size Of Dims In IPT Sketch Environment

Mar 12, 2012

Where is the setting to control the size of dims in the IPT sketch environment. The arrow sizes are OK, but the dims are so small they are unreadable to the point of having to double click on the dim to get the actual value.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Constraining A Part To A Sketch Point In The Assembly Environment

Aug 7, 2012

Unfortunately, it's chock full of proprietary customer data, so I can't share the parts or the assembly.  But I can pretty well explain what needs to happen, and I've attached a JPG that shows a bit of what I'm doing.

I need to design a bracket to hold an RPM sensor at a certain gap to a spiral bevel gear.  I've got a huge assembly model (non-Inventor) from the customer, as well as the model for the sensor.  My plan is to start a master IAM, insert the customer assembly, insert the sensor and constrain him, and draw the various hardware I need around the sensor.

So I start by making a work plane that matches the bevel angle and is in a location so the end of my sensor will be flush to that plane.  Create a sketch on that plane, then project 2 relevant axes to create the appropriate "origin" from which my location will be based.  Place a point on one line, at a certain radial distance and constrain my point.

So now I've got a point and a plane that are where I want my sensing face and my centerline axis to be.  What now?  I was thinking that I'd create a work axis "normal to plane through a point", but this workflow isn't available in the assembly environment.  I can't constrain a solid to a sketch point, so I really don't know what to do at this point in order to put the part where I need it.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Create Independent Scaled Sketch In Drawing Environment?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Hide Dimensions In Sketch Mode In Drawing Environment

Sep 28, 2012

I was giving a hand drawn wiring diagram (original.jpg) and it is a rats nest!!

I was asked to re-draw this and put it on our drawing template.

I have the plugs and terminal blocks drawn up and now I am about to attempt to add in the wires, but the sketch is so filled with dimension lines and values, it is going to be a task to try and make sure every line I draw is correct. This would be much easier to do if the dimensions could be turned off as the wires I am drawing will not be constrained.

I don't think there is layers options inside a sketch mode, or a if i start a new sketch I don't think I can project that sketch to the new one?

The only other options I can think of was to delete all dimensions and apply FIX constraint to everything! or

I guess I could have modeled the plugs and blocks in position and added them to the drawing, projected the geometry to a new sketch and added in my wires??

There must be someway to toggle the dimensions??

AutoCAD Inventor :: PDF To DWG To Scalable Sketch - Spline Control Vertices

Aug 9, 2012

I have a client who is replacing a large fleet of machines located in premises throughout the country. In theory the replacement program should be straightforward..... however machine dimensions have increased slightly, new service access doors have been added and user control switches and indicators have moved. I have Inventor Assemblies of the machines to show the door and body changes, but not the complex user interface panel (buttons and switches). If I could only import a sketch of the interface panel, it would look great in an Inventor drawing and I could dimension the all important position of components on the interface panel.

I have PDF drawings of the fascia panels which I can import to Adobe Illustrator and save as a DWG. When I look at the DWG in AutoCAD Mechanical, all looks well. When I import the drawing to Inventor part sketch however lots of spline control vertices appear. I cant delete the control vertices in AutoCAD or the drawing falls to pieces when imported to Inventor.

How then do I hide the vertices from my sketch in Inventor. Am I doing things the hard way? Are there shortcuts to importing PDFs in Inventor?

Inventor 2013 sketch mode is excellent as I only have to change one dimension to scale my sketch. I can also stretch/manipulate the sketch to make up for any errors in the original PDF.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Change Or Control Color Of Sketch Objects?

Nov 29, 2011

Is there a way to change or control the color of sketch objects?  I didn't see any way to set colors for sketch objects within the Application Options.  Might there be some registry entries that could change the color of sketch objects?

Sometimes it's useful to be able to use colors other than Green and Black for sketch objects.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Control View Scale According To Part Size

Oct 18, 2012

Inventor 2013 sp1

i want to control the scales of my idw views based on the parts size.

Heres a short intro to what we do, using design assistant we copy an existing project to a new project folder and start designing using the old project as a "template" for the new job.

So, lets say the project i just copied has a part that is 100" "tall", on my drawing sheet the view scale is set to .05 and the view fits nicely on our 8 1/2x11 portrait layout.

Now, the new project's part is only 24" "tall" and using a scale of .05 is no good at all, i need to scale the view up so it will fit nicely in the same layout. This also applies to the associated detail and section views that are on the same sheet.

OK then, Im thinking there should be a way to say if dimx is >=100 then view scale is x and so on if the part is smaller and i would like to do this with the details/sections.

As the pics show, when i change to a smaller size/dia, the views scale needs to be increased. How can this be done... (we do not use vault)

AutoCAD Inventor :: Control Break Size In Drawing View Using ILogic?

Feb 24, 2011

is there any way using iLogic or other method to automatically control the size of the 'break' in a drawing view? I have built a model which uses iLogic to control virtually everything, however the large variations in the length of the product mean that there are some interesting results when it comes to the broken drawing views updating.

it would be nice to locate the break at the absolute center of the view and then size it as a percentage of the view size along one axis or perhaps according to some other length based rule.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Parametric Assembly - Control Size Of Components And Patterns

Jan 28, 2013

I am currently working on a parametric assembly using i Logic to control the size of the components as well as patterns. However, I have hit a road block in trying to figure out how to write a rule for resizing the last roof sheet in this assembly pictured below to be even with the frame. The rule below is what controls the roof sheet pattern based on the frame length. The problem I am continually running into is how do you modify a part which is in an element within the pattern without having it affect the rest of the parts in the pattern since they all refer to part. I can get since it is hard to find information on i Logic.

Roof_Pattern_Spacing = Roof_Sheet_Width
Roof_Pattern_Count=Ceil(Parameter("Length")/Parameter("Sheet Metal Roof Section:1", "Roof_Sheet_Width"))

(Note: The red line symbolizes where I would like to have the roof sheet end.)

AutoCAD Inventor :: Copy Part Sketch Into Drawing Sketch

Sep 20, 2012

How do I duplicate the 2D line work from a part level sketch into a drawing level (overlay) sketch?

I started a simple 2D piping system diagram sketch by opening a new part file and using a sketch to stick draw the system schematic including some annotations.  Then I opened a new drawing file and made a base view of the part file to bring a view of the original sketch into the drawing.

I realize now that it would have been much easier to have created the schematic directly in a 2D sketch at the drawing level, which would have made editing the annotations much easier at the drawing level, and there is really no need for the part file to exist.  I have no intention of creating a 3D model or "real" part in the .ipt file, was just using it as a jumping off point to sketch.

I was thinking that I could correct my error in judgment by just copying the sketch and pasting it into a new sketch on the drawing, but it doesn't want to work that way.  I have tried copying both the whole sketch at the browser level, and the entire sketch contents (all of the lines and annotations) from the opened part sketch, but when I attempt to paste either of those into the drawing, paste does not seem to be an option.  I'd rather not have to draw the whole thing again, as in typical fashion, my once simple sketch has grown in proportion and complexity from its simple beginning.
