AutoCAD Inventor :: Vault 2012 Project To Choose From?
Nov 5, 2013I`m just wondering if there is any chance to avoid that screen below (when open file from Vault) and set it up to use a certain template by default?

View 6 Replies View RelatedWe are currently running Inventor 2010 Professional (64-bit) on our computers with Vault 2010 on a remote server, but are ready to upgrade to Inventor 2012 Professional. Will we be able to continue to use Vault 2010, or will our Vault (ADMS?) need to go to 2012 also?
A side question, what are the strategies to update the files in the Vault to 2012? As needed? Setup an automated task?
Does Inventor Pro 2013 works with Vault Pro 2012.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to duplicate & then rename a project I have stored on my vault computer, However I am experiencing many difficulties.
There are probably around 1000 + files in this project-multiple assemblies/drawings & parts. Initially i did a Pack & Go of the Project to my desktop. I then took my first top level drawings & using Design Assistant renamed all the reference parts and assemblies related too it. This worked fine, albeit a very long time to rename all the files.
The problem is that i have say 50 drawing files, some contain similar assemblies/part files which will have already been rename in the first top level drawing & some container different assemblies/parts (which are not related to the first top level drawing) & will have to be renamed separately.
Is there an easier way to duplicate & rename a vault project because design assistant makes this task extremely laborious. An great tool to add would be to 'Find & Replace' a file name & apply it too all the files. Similar to the function in Microsoft Word.
I have looked into the copy design feature in vault however, you can only copy a project within a project, you cannot copy it to a completely new folder in the vault.
The other problem is, is that you can only add a prefix or suffix to every file/related part/assembly, & i would rather replace the project number rather then add the new project number to the file names. This would be a viable option if you could rename multiple files quickly, however this just stems back to the design assistant.
I have installed Inventor 2013 on a machine just so that I can use this machine to migrate my files using the Autodesk Task Scheduler. I started the TS, then Create Task>Migrate Files task. I selected my "Vault" project and get a message that says "Vault Projects not supported".
I noticed that in the Migrate Files dialog, there is not a box at the top that says "Migrate from Vault".
This is installed on "Windows Server Standard x64" OS.
I tried a repair install and Reinstall on the Inventor 2013 installation. Problem still persists.
I cant change this to read / write. I'm using a vault project. Anyway of doing this so I can save materials to the style library using a vault project?
View 2 Replies View RelatedHaving issues on a laptop with Inventor 2012. Inventor will let the user create a new project folder on the C drive but not on their personal network drive. The user does have all needed permissions to use their network space, but Inventor is not allowing a project folder to be created on on the networked drive.
We have desktops on which project folders can be successfully created on the network drive. Only the laptop seems to be affected by the issue.
Am I missing a simple check box somewhere in Inventor?
When I create a new sketch on any given view and utilize the 'Project Geometry' command, not all geometry will project onto the sketch. It seems random; I've tried multiple times using different orders in which to choose the geometry. Sometimes certain geometry will project, sometimes not.

Iv'e been using Land Desktop 2005 and 'am checking out a trial of 3D 2012. Needless to say I'm used to the 2005 format where there is simply a tab for Projects to create a new project or manage existing projects.

We are running 2012 and like the look of the older versions. We are using the Autocad Classic workspace, BUT the Project Browser and all that jazz is missing. Where or how do i get it back?
We are trying to get task scheduler to automatically download certain files from the Vault. Templates and Styles. The templates work great, but there is no way to specify any filetypes other than Inventor filetypes. Am I missing something? Is there a way to specify non-inventor filetypes?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI do not have vault installed and I am trying to add sub files to my project. As of now my project has to find many of my files and I do not want to copy and past them into my project folder as this will mess with my parts numbering system. I want only one part / assembly file per part. I assume that you can do this with the project dialog box or some other system tool I just can not seem to figure it out.
View 1 Replies View RelatedPreviously, I use to create sketch's on the face of the part and do holes and extrusion operations.
I use to face lot of issues as parent geomentry is visible while editing the sketch. Started to use datum planes and avoid using the face of the part to create sketchs, This is method is much better as I dont have any issue with the parent geomentry.
But, I have new problem. Please refer to the attached screen shot. When I want to create the holes in nominated centres there is no option for me to select the face of the part.. The counter bore depth starts from the sketch plane.
It would be lot handy, if there is an option to select a plane or a face for these operations. Then I can share the same sketch to create holes in different parts which are at different distances from sketch plane.
How to create a list of values to chose from for an iProperty? I can create a multi-value parameter and set the iproperty equal to it, then create a form that calls up the parameter...but there has to be a better way. I'd like to create a template with iProperties that are standardized. For example, we have a bunch of labs in our business. I created a custom iproperty for the labs (so that this property could be searched in vault). However, if I stop there, users will find all sorts of ways to botch the lab names. Therefore, when you run a search for a lab, you may not find all the files associated with that lab due to a mispelling. Forcing values chosen from the iProperty list would prevent this from happening.
I was hoping there would be a way to do this with iLogic forms, but you can't create a list for iProperties...at least I don't think you can.

When I get latest versions of files from Vault Explorer and then open them in Inventor, the vault status of the files in the Inventor browser shows a triangle with an exclaimation mark inside of it. When I move my mouse over the status icon, it says "vault not open". There is no response when I try to log into the Vault within Inventor.
I upgraded from 2009 to 2010 Inventor and Vault two weeks ago. Everything worked fine until today. Vault Explorer seems to be working fine. The ADMS console seems to also be working fine. I can do all the routine tasks in both programs. The problem is only in Inventor.
Long short, we have dozens of drawings and the original base view was deleted, so the title block uses the next view placed to populate. We would like to drop in a new view, and use that as the view the title block looks to. The only way we've figured how to do this is to delete the other 8 or so views (that are already all detailed)., place the view we want to populate the title block, then redraw all the views we just deleted.
Is there an easier way to chose a new base/primary view for a drawing?
I am using the autodesk suit 2011. The problem I am having is when I copied a block from autocad using the copy command, then used the paste command in an inventor .dwg and it inserted as an autoCAD block. When I check the finished drawing into vault the autocad block does not show up and will not print.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a user that has been experiencing problems when checking files into vault. The problem occurs when he copies a design (the drawing and part file) in vault then checks out the files to make changes, saves it and checks it back in, Inventor doesn't check in the changes. The preview window (i.e.. dwf that's generated on check in) is correct however the thumbnail is wrong and when you open the latest version none of the changes have been made.
This is taking up a lot of time because he has to make the changes twice and also has to be constantly looking back in vault to files he has just checked in to make sure they are correct.
We are a mid sized company the builds our parts from raw materials. Steel Coils, Steel tubing, Steel plate, etc.
We are have been migrating from MDT to Inventor over the last few years. We are now trying to implement Vault and integrate that data into our ERP system. We would like to model a part and assembly and check that into Vault then pass the BOM into our ERP system.
It all sounds good up until I looked at how our part files were structured. There is not BOM in an ipt that I have found phantom or referential. Here is my problem
It takes 1 lb of a .0625" thich steel sheet that is 6.5" wide. We stamp our product in a 200 ton press producing a finish componet.Problem 1- Part1.ipt (model of my stamping) does not have a lower level it is a component in Inventor there is no BOM that I have found.Problem 2 - Part2.iam uses part1ipt but we punch a hole in it and push material outward to create a lip so we can lap weld the next part. When I try to extrude this feature I can only cut the part I cannot add material or deform it in any way.Problem 3 - We also manufacture bent tubes. We consume 1.5 ft of part C to make part D. I cannot insert 1.5ft of a part that is 20ft long as we buy it. then we bend it. I cannot insert a 1.5ft part into an assembly and then bend it.
Major problem - even though I can change the dwg file or idw file to add a parts list Vault does not put this information in the Item master BOM.
I have opened Vault for the first time and I don't know how to access it, it wants a username/password/server/database. I am one of two people in the company how use inventor etc so there is no existing server/database within my company so I assume i have to set one up?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have a product line that relies heavily on iAssemblies. The main assembly and several layers of subassemblies are all iAssemblies. All the children that needed to be generated so far were added to the vault.
If I activate a different member in the main assembly factory, Inventor wants to update some of the various children. For some reason, vault won't prompt me to check out the children. I get a variety of errors, unless I manually check out the children.
There are at least 20 iAssemblies involved at different levels of this thing, not to mention all the iParts thrown in as well.
Often as a sole user of Revit when I open a project I have been working on I get the following message:
"This file is already open for editing by another user. You will be unable to save any changes before that user closes the file."
Since I am the only one working on the project there are no other users and as far as I can tell no other files open. Any insight into what has triggered this message?
Luckily it still hasn't happened when the save as dialog box is open, but it's rather annoying when searching for a file in the open dialog box and the search takes more than 30 seconds. Crash. Also, it seems it only happens about 90% of the time. I've updated everything + drivers are good. (I use Windows 7 Home Premium on a Asus N53SN with 16gb RAM.)
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Inventor 2012, you could choose Balloon, select a part, click at some location and the Balloon was placed and finished. Now in Inventor 2013 you have to right-click and choose Continue. The same applies, when you want to place a Leader Text (and maybe elsewhere as well).
Why do we suddenly have to make two additional clicks compared to Inventor 2012. It doesn't work, that you can press Enter instead of the additional mouse clicks.
And why is the Open Drawing moved to second level. The Marking Menu is of no use, especially not in the tree browser.
Why do you Inventor designers make such changes that make Inventor more annoying to operate compared to the previous version. It should be the other way around....like the brilliant inclusion of Open Drawing.
I'm using the free Vault that doesn't have a batch print option so I've been writing some code that does the trick.
The code lists open drawings, assemblies and parts, and depending onwhich is selected, displays a list of all the drawings associated with the file and it's sub-components.
Everything is good except that when the list of drawings is populated I am only able to search through the working folder for drawings. This means that if the drawing has been modified by another, or the drawing has not been opened on the local computer, it will not print (or print the old version).
Is there a way to pull the latest files from vault into the working folder automatically? Currently the only way this is possible is by selecting "Get/Checkout" in vault and downloading the files.
A customer has a problem with the add-in of Vault in Inventor. Log In and Log Out options are lost as shown in the picture. The machine already formatted and installed applications again but the problem continues.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am making a copy design of a big file, two things I need to change manually which takes lots of time:
I need to change the status of files from Reuse to Copy, also I need to change the paths to the right ones as the paths that kick in by default when I change the main directory on the top are not right.
Is there a quick way of changing status of all the files to Copy, kinda shift and highlight or the way Vault renames files with Replace option? With big assemblies connected with 10 drawing files doing it all by hand.
