AutoCAD Inventor :: Using Different Part Lists

I'd like to know if it's possible to use two different styles of part list in the same project.
For example, one for assembly drawings and another for single part drawings.
I am currently working on a product where I want to make 2 part lists in my drawing of the same assembly. The first parts list has to view all the parts that are always delivered with our product, and the second one has to show the optional parts and features that could be delivered with the product.
I want both lists to be categorized the same way (comments, material, name), I want the numbers of the list to be chronological (also I don't want the second parts list to start the numbering at 1) and I want both lists to stay connected with their balloons.
Is there any way this can be done, like adding or removing part links to the list manually?
I thought I'd be efficient & use one assembly with a couple View Reps to represent two variations of our product. But I ran into a problem editing two part lists on an IDW file. Most of the parts are identical.
I have two part lists on an IDW for the same asy & each part list is filtered for one of two View Reps - works great! But I discovered when I edit the item number order in one part list to harmonize with the other, the other one gets re-ordered also & no longer harmonizes with the first one.

Having problems with parts lists not showing the correct part numbers of the parts included in the assembly. In some cases I've made a new part by renaming an existing part but when I create a parts list it shows the part no of the original existing part used to create the new part, even though the new part is the one in the assembly. Also I have just had a number of similar assemblies and needed to produce parts lists for them. I created the first one and then used 'save as' to rename the drawing including the parts list. Then when I re-opened the newly renamed drawing I assigned it to it's new assembly. However the parts list did not update to show the new part numbers included in it's new assembly.
Is all this a glitch in the system or is there something in the set-up which is causing this problem?
This morning the shop brought back a set of drawings and requested that I provide a cut list for the fab department. Our drawings consist of an assembly drawing and materials list on the first page with several individual parts on each of the following pages. I am looking at including a column in the ML for the operation ( laser, saw, shear) and sorting the list by it. However when I do this the Item Numbers on the list are all confused. If a person were to look at a balloon on a drawing and then attempt to find it in the list it would be difficult and time waster.
The questions.
1. Is there a way to renumber the item list after sorting the material?
2. If I place an assembly view off the edge of the sheet for each of the following sheets and then place a materials list on each sheet, is it possible to create a plugin that would find which parts are on the sheet and hide all the other parts on the list? I have just started going through the "my first plugin" tutorial and this sounds like a place where it should be useful but I don't know which tags I need to look for.
Here's my background, im in the power transformer business, started as a winder (making the coils) but ended up making the design and drawings of them. Basically coils are cylindrical and we only make a radial cut view of it. Going from the center of the core to the outer most coil. The part list would typically have roughly 80 items for a full phase assembly, we make a drawing of the full assembly, then first winding, second winding, third winding, etc. The way i work right now is with standard drawings giving A, B, C etc dimensions, and when i make the piece for the transformer, i have to input the dimension in the excel part list by hand.
The can i do these things questions..
1-Only way to have individual items listed in the part lists would be with blocks right? The equivalent of inventor i-parts? Each block would have to be named after the item?
2-Can i add mass to the items? this could get complicated since its cylindrical, but in 2d... so i guess some math formulas would have to go in for this, as a cylinder with a diameter of 500, thickness of 5, and height of 1000 for example, would just be represented in the drawing as a rectangle of 5x1000, the diameter is the core center to the cylinder*2 (radial drawing). So the mass would need to take into account that the rectangle goes all the way around an axis.
3-I've played with autocad 2010 parametrics. With the axis as a base, i can enter the diameter of the first cylinder, then the thickness and height of everything that follows, the clearance from bottom and top also and if i change 1 value, everything adjusts to it. BUT can i change the dimensions via an excel sheet? If not, how hard would it be (i know a small bit of visual basic from excel), to make a LISP or VBA menu inside cad where we could enter the dimensions and the whole assembly automatically adjusts?
4-I make a drawing of the full assembly, then demolish it to each individual coils. The equivalent of an inventor .iam, would be xref in autocad? So i can makea coil 1, coil 2, coil 3, interwinding wraps, and then make an xref that would combine all of these into the full assembly? And also i guess if its split into 4 to 5 different drawings, the possible BOM out of there would be much easier to manage.
Is there a way to align multiple Parts Lists?
I have an i Assembly with 7 distinct members. I have a parts list displayed next to each member. I had no problem getting the views to align, but am running into a wall with getting the Parts Lists aligned (other than just eyeballing it).
I'm writing an input check function (check certain inputs to be positive, or within a certain range). I'm a mechanical engineer with basic coding experience, mostly with basic matlab experience (some c++), so I don't fully understand VB structure, classes, objects, etc.
I'm giving my function a mutlivalue list of the names of parameters, converting to an ArrayList, then using 'For Every Item" in array list If>my condition>then display input box. And I have it working, but probably not the "proper" way, though if it works, it works. My real question is if I can use a multivalue list of parameter names and create a sister MV list that contains the parameter values. Currently I have to hard code a MV list with quotes aorund the names, and one without quotes. I've played around with various ways of using multivalue.set/setlist, val(), CDblAny() and other functions, but always end up with either class mismatches, an MV list with a single evaluated parameter, or an exact duplicate of the original paramter name MV list.
Example of my brute force efforts:

'MultiValue.List("testList") = MultiValue.List(Parameter(ggg))

I have a really long parts list and would like to know if there is there a way to split the parts list into two distinct shorter lists.
This is how it is done in Solidworks. Just wondering if splitting BOM's is possible in Inventor.

How can I condense the 'history tree' that lists all the function? Like, putting multiple sketches into one folder and then being able to expand it to display all of them?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe are using inventor 2011 and I would like to make the text wrap where I want it to not where the cell length determines. Can I do this in the ipropeties of the part? When I edit the parts list to move wrap the text manually the text turns blue of course, but this also negates the updating of parts automatically. In the part I use an expression to ensure that the description reverts back to the iproperties of the part ie =<G_L> X <G_W> - <MATERIAL>. I would like it to insert a text wrap then proceed to the next line with <STOCKNUMBER> - <PARTNUMBER> so I would look like:
12" X 6" - G40.21-44W
PL. 1/2 - PL-100

View 9 Replies View Related I set up our company log which gets embossed on most parts as a sketch block in an .ipt. The .ipt contains nothing but the sketch block. To use it, the designer only needs to derive the Logo.ipt file into their part and then use the scale setting to set the derived block to the desired size for that part. The result is a scalable set of line geometry that can easily be used for extrusion or emboss that is standard for all users. It works beautifully, that is until you try to use it in a sheet metal part in 2012.
For some reason, when this same part, which works perfectly in normal parts, is derived into a sheet metal part an error pops up stating that, "Selected part does not have any geometry that can be derived." Say what?
I was able to find a workaround by directly copying the block into the sheet metal part, but you no longer have the ability to go back and scale it if needed. Even more strange, when the block was copied over, it could not be deleted from the new part.
Is this just a bug with 2012? Why does it work in a normal part but not sheet metal?
Dear Sir, In particular project, when I insert part in Assembly file, It is inserted as a Tube & Pipe run part. so that It is not Grounded automatically. What is the settings by which I can insert as a normal part in assembly file ? I have attached herewith the JPG file also.

The one below doesn`t work.

I would like to simplify this assembly into one seamless part for FEM calculation:The assembly consists out of parts that, in reality, will be welded together. Due to their form, there is no way to place them exactly onto each other, therefore there are slight gaps between the parts:
Now when I try to merge the assembly into one part via "simplify" --> "create simplified part" and choose "single solid body with seams between planar faces merged", Inventor does not fill these gaps (even though it displays only one part in the bottom right corner of my window). Unfortunately, the remaining gaps brings "contact" problems in the FEM simulation.
how to close the gaps and really merge the assembly into one part?

Part created in assembly does not update to part file.
I have a part that has protrusions. When i mate that part up to another part that second part needs to have cutouts/holes to receive those protrusions.
i mainly use it in sheetmetal parts. and use the rectangular protrusions on de contour to mate up with corresponding cutouts in the other sheet. this works with positioning and also makes for a nice weld spot/area.
But also for making holes to accommodate a mold pin used in custom punch dies. I want the intervening part to receive a corresponding (propperly tolleranced) hole automatically. Much like a bolted connection does.
same for parts like circlips. i want them to automatically generate the seat in the part it's mated to. Rather than using the axle generator.
Ofcourse one can place the parts and do an in assembly interpart projection and go from there, but i want the part to generate the (predifined) modification to the other part. It would save time and also reduces problems as the parts are moved about or even removed.
I have an assembly with 10 parts in it. We use many assembly features at the assembly level (Revolve cut, Extrusion cut..etc). How to find the mass difference of each part by comparing at its parts level and its assembly level.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn previous releases (2009 i think) when i converted a standard part to a sheet metal part i could recall all the sheet metal styles by linking back to the sheet metal template (i can't remember exactly how this was done, but it was possible with one operation)
In 2011 i canot find a quick way of doing this, it looks like i have to open the sheet metal template and export each different style (about 40 of them) and then import each one into the converted part. am i missing something? is there a simpler way similar to how it used to be done? Why have Autodesk made this more difficult?
As it stands at the moment it would be quicker for me to remodel the parts from scratch using the sheet metal template. I know this is the obvious solution, but seems strange to change something that worked well to something that doesn't!
I order not to hide components, i want to make a break sketch and remove a piece from a part from an assembly in the isometric view in a drawing. can i do that?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a structrual rectangular tube as shown in the picture below. I need to fold the four flanges inward to create a sort of point or pyramid.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe simple question is… how can we insert a step (stp) part into an existing part file?
The story behind the question is this:
Normally when we get a step file assembly from a customer, if the part has changed, we put our part into Old Versions and save their new step file as our ipt number and replace it in our assembly file. With Vault, in order for us to maintain the history of the part files, we need to keep the original file so we can’t just delete it or replace it, so now we need to figure out how to get a step file into an ipt. The Import command on the Manage tab (with 2013 at least?) does not allow import of stp files just yet.
The only other option I can think of is to put the original part into an assembly with the step file, create a copy of the step information in the part file and use it to recreate the new (step based) part.

I'm modeling a temperature gauge and would like to have glass over the gauge so the inside is visible. I can easily do this with an assembly, but I'm wanting to do this with a single part. I tried to derive a new part from the assembly, but the transparent part turns solid so nothing inside is visible. Is it possible to do this?
I've include pictures of what I want and what I end up with.

Some times we use standard parts which we could not find in content center. We creat part ourselves. But it looks like standard part in BOM or part explorer window...
I want to change type of part to PURCHASED type and icon like other purchased parts like bearings or bolts...
Is this possible?...
It can be also assembly parts like bearings. Bearings have many parts but it looks only one part in part explorer. This is very good. I want same thing too...
I have created the part based on piece of standard angle taken from library. Now I want to make a mirrored copy of this part by Component-Mirror.
Inventor does not let me do it with standard part.
The question is: How I can transform a standard part to normal one, I mean I could get rid of belonging to standard part? Making a copy does not work. The only way is to derive and mirror this part but I wish there could be easy way.
If I want to find part which is inside another part or assembly, which means no matter how I turn camera, I always cannot see that part.
Does inventor has this function? Or is it possible to develope by .NET API?
Is it possible, if you have a merged BOM.row to get the total quantity of each part?
