AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Align Multiple Parts Lists

May 22, 2012

Is there a way to align multiple Parts Lists?

I have an i Assembly with 7 distinct members.  I have a parts list displayed next to each member.  I had no problem getting the views to align, but am running into a wall with getting the Parts Lists aligned (other than just eyeballing it).

AutoCAD Inventor :: Multi Line Text In One Cell In Parts Lists

Dec 6, 2011

We are using inventor 2011 and I would like to make the text wrap where I want it to not where the cell length determines. Can I do this in the ipropeties of the part? When I edit the parts list to move wrap the text manually the text turns blue of course, but this also negates the updating of parts automatically. In the part I use an expression to ensure that the description reverts back to the iproperties of the part ie =<G_L> X <G_W> - <MATERIAL>. I would like it to insert a text wrap then proceed to the next line with <STOCKNUMBER> - <PARTNUMBER> so I would look like:

12" X 6" - G40.21-44W
PL. 1/2 - PL-100

AutoCAD Inventor :: 2012 Parts Lists Not Showing Correct Part Numbers In Assembly

Nov 4, 2011

Having problems with parts lists not showing the correct part numbers of the parts included in the assembly. In some cases I've made a new part by renaming an existing part but when I create a parts list it shows the part no of the original existing part used to create the new part, even though the new part is the one in the assembly. Also I have just had a number of similar assemblies and needed to produce parts lists for them. I created the first one and then used 'save as' to rename the drawing including the parts list. Then when I re-opened the newly renamed drawing I assigned it to it's new assembly. However the parts list did not update to show the new part numbers included in it's new assembly.

Is all this a glitch in the system or is there something in the set-up which is causing this problem?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Multiple Part Lists In 1 Drawing

Jan 29, 2013

I am currently working on a product where I want to make 2 part lists in my drawing of the same assembly. The first parts list has to view all the parts that are always delivered with our product, and the second one has to show the optional parts and features that could be delivered with the product.

I want both lists to be categorized the same way (comments, material, name), I want the numbers of the list to be chronological (also I don't want the second parts list to start the numbering at 1) and I want both lists to stay connected with their balloons.

Is there any way this can be done, like adding or removing part links to the list manually?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Creating Cut Lists Or Sorted Material Lists

Mar 6, 2013

This morning the shop brought back a set of drawings and requested that I provide a cut list for the fab department. Our drawings consist of an assembly drawing and materials list on the first page with several individual parts on each of the following pages. I am looking at including a column in the ML for the operation ( laser, saw, shear) and sorting the list by it. However when I do this the Item Numbers on the list are all confused. If a person were to look at a balloon on a drawing and then attempt to find it in the list it would be difficult and time waster.

The questions.

1. Is there a way to renumber the item list after sorting the material?

2. If I place an assembly view off the edge of the sheet for each of the following sheets and then place a materials list on each sheet, is it possible to create a plugin that would find which parts are on the sheet and hide all the other parts on the list? I have just started going through the "my first plugin" tutorial and this sounds like a place where it should be useful but I don't know which tags I need to look for.

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: Parts Lists Disappearing When Exported To PDF

May 23, 2013

I am running Autocad Mechanical 2013 as part of the Product Ulitmate Design suite.

I am using a Sheet Set to export a number of layouts to a single PDF. Everything is as expected, except that all my Parts Lists (EXCEPT ONE!!) are not showing up in the PDF. The only difference I can see between the one that works and the many that don't is that on all the ones that don't work I have a "Filter by Ballooned" filter applied to the parts list. What could be up with this? Could that filter somehow be the cause?

Another completely random and unexpected behavior: there is something that is causing all the AM_* layers that are automatically generated in paper space to suddenly become frozen. They all becomes frozen at once. Why or what it is I am doing to cause it to happen.

I found that for DIP the wall thicknesses for pipes was way greater than anything commercially available; and that for PVC the wall thicknesses were way thinner than what's commercially available.

Are most client's modifying these lists to conform to pipe specifications or ignoring these discrepancies?

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Check If Layer Is In One Of Multiple Lists

Jul 18, 2013

I am trying to write a piece of a program that gets the layers from a drawing, and checks each one against a list of layers. If the layer is not a member of any of the lists it asks the user which layer list to add it to. This is what I have so far, but every time I try to run it I get a bad argument error.

(setq layerspresent (vla-get-layers (vla-get-activedocument (vlax-get-acad-object))))(setq i 0) (repeat (vla-get-count layerspresent)(setq thislayer (vla-get-name (vla-item layerspresent i)))(cond(((progn(or(= nil (member thislayer 0list))(= nil (member thislayer detaillist))(= nil (member thislayer clearancelist))(= nil (member thislayer clearanceelist))(= nil (member thislayer doorsdrawerslist))(= nil (member thislayer hiddenlist))(= nil (member thislayer hiddenelist))(= nil (member thislayer deletelist)))));ifs((progn(initget "0 DEtail CLearance CLEarance-e DOOrs-and-Drawers HIdden HIddEn-E DELete")(setq userchoice (getkword "

[code]...

Depending on the user's choice the layer gets written to an external file where the layer lists get their layers from in the beginning and then adds the layer to the relevant list to use later in the program.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Parts List For Multiple Configurations

Jul 19, 2012

I design rubber molds.  So, you have a cap, base, inserts, end plates... yadda yadda.  Sometimes we use different configurations of a mold to make slightly different parts.  For example, say by default, the "-1" configuration will be basically just the cap and base, to create a 6" part.  Then, we might have a "-2" configuration with a 1" spacer insert to create a 5" part.  What I want, is a parts list to automatically pull in the quantities for the different configurations in separate columns of the parts list.  I'm wondering if there is a way to do this using different Level of Details.

One solution I've contemplated is creating the parts list from the "default" assy, then creating a "parts list" of the alternate assembly, but stripping off all but the quantity column... but that doesn't seem horribly elegant, and I'm not sure I can resolve all parts list rows without pegging in some dummy "custom parts".... dunno.

AutoCAD Inventor :: VBA Script To Constrain Multiple Parts

Jun 28, 2013

Lets say we have a plate with 100 randomly placed holes on it and 100 parts to attach to those holes. The parts aren't content center parts so they can't inserted in an easy fashion and the random hole spacing makes component pattern useless. The parts would normally be constrained using the insert command and you'd have to do all 100 separately. Would it be possible to make a script that would let you select the 100 parts then choose the selected geometry on one part and then a hole on the plate. It would apply that insert constraint and automatically select the same geometry on another part so you could simply select another hole. Then rinse and repeat until all the parts have been constrained to holes on the plate.

If something like that is possible it'd cut down the number of clicks greatly and also panning/rotating to select the different parts and holes on the plate. This isn't a daily thing we'd be doing, but it comes up enough in large assemblies it could be very useful. I haven't done any scripting for things inside parts/assemblies so I don't know what's possible while scripting.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Color Multiple Parts In An Assembly?

Oct 14, 2011

I have a large assembly model made of many different parts.  The last thing I want to do is "paint" it so I can make a drawing showing the different colors being used.  My plan is to take the entire assembly and insert it into another assembly then just change the parts to the specific colors.  I was wondering if there was a way to change the colors on multiple parts at once.  Right now I right click the part go to iproperties and then go to occurence and choose the specific color.  I know from using Solidworks that it works the opposite you click the color first and then all the parts that you want to be that color.  It works out a lot quicker.  If I select multiple parts the occurence tab in the properties is greyed out.

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Read Lines From A File And Save To Multiple Lists?

Jul 22, 2013

I am writing a program to grab a bunch of layers from a list, check a drawing to see if the layers are on the list, and if not save to an external file. I have the second part of the program done, but I can't get the first part to work.

I am trying to open a file read the contents and save it to a list.

Here is the code I have so far, but it doesn't even get into the foreach statement.

(setq layerslist (list '"0list" '"detaillist" '"clearancelist" '"clearanceelist" '"doorsdrawerslist" '"hiddenlist" '"hiddenelist" '"deletelist"))(setq count 0)(foreach thislayer layerslist (setq f (open (strcat "C:\filterlists\" thislayer ".txt") "r")) (while (/= (setq text (read-line f)) nil) (setq (read thislayer) (cond ( (= 0 count) (cons (cons 8 text) (read thislayer)))( (append (read thislayer) (list (cons 8 text))) ) );cond );setq (setq count (+ count 1)) );while (close f) );foreach

I've also attached one of the text files. Im doing something in the wrong order, or I have something inside the wrong set of parenthesis.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Automate Change To IProperty Of Multiple Parts?

Jul 23, 2013

Is there a way to change an iProperty, specifically the iProperties->Project->Project field for multiple parts automatically.

I use the iLogic Design Copy Tool to copy over an entire project, and for the most part the only changes is the project number.

I didn't see a way to change this in the Design Copy Tool, possibly there is some other tools that can do this that I don't know about. But if not, I am assuming a small script (VBA??) would be required to do this? whether it is in Inventor or just an outside program to carry out this change.

I found this old thread, but it seems that people just found another way to do this?

[URL]

My workflow would follow something like this:

-Use iLogic Design Copy Tool to copy over project to new folder

-Open up full assembly

-Run rule or script to update all parts in assembly with new Project iProperty

-Save

-update the drawings as I need, (they will all need to be reviewed as some parts will be modified anyways)

AutoCAD Inventor :: Assembling Parts With Multiple Bolt Holes

Jan 6, 2012

I'm trying to assemble two parts, each of which has four matching bolt holes. So I do a "mate" between a hole on one and a hole on the other.  This works fine, and the parts now behave just like two parts bolted together with one bolt - one can be rotated relative to the other around the bolt hole. So there is one degree of freedom left to be constrained.

But the obvious ways to constrain that one last rotational constraint result in overconstraint. Trying a "mate" between the circles at the ends of the corresponding bolt holes breaks the first constraint, and the non-grounded object "jumps". Trying to auto-mate the two holes results in the holes being constrained as tangent, with the holes not lined up. I've tried constraining the center points of the end circles of the holes. That doesn't work right either.

Doing the second constraint as "tangent-inside" does work.  That's a 1 DOF constraint, which makes sense. It took me a while to figure that out. The help files aren't very useful when multiple constraints are involved.
