AutoCAD Inventor :: Remove Bend Extents Line In Flat
Mar 21, 2013
If there is a way to remove the bend extents line when you create flat pattern. I don't mean in the drawing, the actual flat itself. My reasoning for this is when i transfer the flat into my nesting program, the bend extents lines transfer too. See attached img.

I have unfolded a 3D model into a flat plate, however the bend lines/extents do not appear in ISO.dwg
I doubled clicked into the view to access 'Display Options'. However, I cannot tick the box to display bend extents as this option is shaded out (refer to attached screen dump).

Any way of drawing an edge bend on a flat bit of copper so I can flat pattern it for the guys on the shop floor to make.
The problem comes with the edge bend, I have provided a picture of a simple bit of copper with various flat bends and a single edge bend. As the flat pattern shows to the right the edge bend is not flattered, This was drawn using a sketch the profile then using "face" . This is why I assume it does not work in flat pattern.
Is it possible to draw an edge bend with a command to allow it to flat pattern? if so which command and how?

I am trying to create a command to display the bend information in the model Flat pattern. We do not always create a Idw for parts that we have special dies to form. This creates a problem though if the flat pattern bends are the wrong direction because then it is lasered with the bad side of the material to the outside of the part. The only way to know the bend direction is to create a view on an idw just to check this.
I want to open the flat pattern in the ipt and invoke a command to display the bend information on the screen. Need getting a collection of the bend lines in the flat pattern?

Just by selecting a bend line on the flat pattern, I'd like to draw only 2 lines on a sketch (without any border projection, only points) at both ends of the bend line.
I'm sure it can be done via VBA, but don't know how to start for it.

Is there a way to remove the extension line from a leader (when using the Leader Text command)? I'm trying to end up with just text, an arrowhead, & a straight line. It would look like this:
<---------- TEXT
as opposed to:
TEXT
/
<----------/
(Is that the best diagram ever, or what?)

I have a basic problem but I can't seem to be able to get around it. I added an image to a sketch successfully but it cam with a yellow line around it (see attached) and I can't remove it. In the sketch properties I was able to change it's color to black to make less visible but it's still there.
Any clue as to how I can make it disappear ?

I can't find a way to create multi flat patters in one part from a lofted sheetmetal part. Also, didn't the developers fix the 'can't make a flat pattern from a derived part'?

I needed to remove a feature line that I used as a break line when creating a surface. When I removed the feature line from the definition of the surface, the grading did not change. It appears the points created by the feature line remain which is why grading didn't change. The only work around was to delete these points.
I noticed the same thing happens when I removed the surface boundary and inserted a new boundary. why these points remain and how to remove when I delete boundary and feature line from surface?

I have some users that use Solid Viewer that I am cosidering switching to Inventor LT. I use Inventor Pro. There is a feature in SolidWorks that let's them quickly display the overall extents; length, width, and height for quoting purposes. The tool creates a transparent box around the 3D model and displays these dimensions.

I am using IV ultimate 2013
just found about this add-in:[URL]
But its not working for me:
I ran the installer, created a sheet metal part and hit rebuild all, it did not create any proeprties, also tried to manually create the properteis then hit rebuild, no go.
I also did a search on my hardrive for the ApplicationPlugins, and placed the sheet metal folder in all of them(there were 3) tried again noto.
The add-in also does not appear in the add-in manager.
Or is there different what to get the flat pattern dimensions in 2013

When you create your own template part file and change the "Initial View Extents" setting in Document Settings on the Modelling Tab. Does this affect the behavior of the initial view extents when re-opening a part file created from this template?
FYI - I recently created a new template part file so that the sketch gridline spacing was more relevant to the size of parts I create. I like to use gridlines while in sketch mode because it is a good visual indicator that I'm in sketch mode. On opening a new part file that referenced to my new template, I noticed that the initial view extents meant only a couple of gridlines were visible due to the zoom level. I therefore tweaked my template file by increasing the initial view extents by a factor of 4 (400mm x 200mm).
The problem now is when opening a part file created from this template, the zoom level seems to snap to the customised view extents and not to the physical extents of the part. Right clicking the View Cube and re-setting the "Fit to View" has no effect. This feature seems broken now that I use modified initial view extents.

I am trying to export geometry found in a flat pattern sketch overlaid onto the flat pattern.
Since I am creating the output file manually I gather the flat pattern boundaries and bend center lines for output to a file.
When I add flat pattern sketch entities to the mix they do not overlay properly. What matrix would I have to push the sketch entities through to get them to the same coordinates as the flat pattern?

When I first upgraded to Inventor 2012 from Inventor 2010, I found that Inventor automatically created and populated three custom iProperties in the sheet metal environment. The props contained information for sheet metal style and sheet metal extents (width and length).
With a fresh installation, Inventor does not seem to be creating the custom props any more. Did I miss a setting or has the feature been discontinued already?

We use the snippets from iLogic on all of our parts to measure the length, width or height of our parts. However, we have noticed that when a 'Move Face' operation or a 'Replace Face' operation is used, the length measured does not seem to take into account the Move/Replace operations.
Are the Move/Replace operations different than other features like Extrude/Revolve? Is there something "ghost-like" about them??? The edges work fine on the drawing side, so I'm not sure what is different. Maybe it is the iLogic snippet?
In regards to it being the snippet, is there another code I can use that doesn't require specific feature or part information built in?

I'm trying to use the cut across bend feature on a sheet metal part. However, when I check cut across bend, it grays out all of the other cutout options, and only has thickness as the only option. This is perplexing to me, because I can't think of too many times I'd need this option other than when there is more than one thickness of material I need to manipulate the profile onto.
I was to understand that this "cut across bend" is for use similar to the "normal cutout" command in solid edge? Keeps the cut perpendicular to the sheet face in a sheet metal part.

Under the modify tab in a part file, I can drop down and click "bend part." We have a bunch of frames made out of stock tubing that are welded together, then bent as a whole. Is there a way to bend at the assembly? I want the model to represent the production process. I don't want to have to bend each tube alone, then reassemble. That would double my parts/part numbers.

I have been trying to bend a larger radius on a corner bend but i can not seem to be able to . I start out with a face of 46" x 82" i want to put a 1/2" bend up then a 1/2" bend out to make a z shape i'm using as a material .109 stainless steel and i want to end up with a 1/2" on the inside corners so that when i'm done i can flatten it out to get the proper sheer size for the piece the metal brake i'm using has a 1/2" die in thats why i trying to figure this out is their any way to put this kind of radius on the sheet metal bends.
