AutoCAD Inventor :: Remote Users Who Must Have Access To Files Via Viewer
Apr 23, 2013
We have a number of remote users who must have access to our files via Inventor Viewer. When reviewing the system requirements for Inventor Viewer 2014, I noticed that it lists only Windows 7 and Windows 8. Was XP omitted by mistake, or will Inv Viewer truly not work on machines running XP?
I have a question regarding Vault. We are using Vault Collaboration 2012 and as of lately we have a user who live in a different county who is going work for us. We are 3 local users who sit locally and 1 user who going to connect remotely to us.
What is the best way to accomplish this, so he can get access to our projects and library’s, from where he is working?
i have just set up remote access from my home laptop to my work computer. for some reason i am having problems with panning using the wheel button on my mouse. instead of panning it acts as a right click function and brings up the menu. Could this just be down to the mouse itself?
One of our employees logs in remotely to a local PC running Revit via terminal services so that all work is done on the local network. The employee is acting through screenshots. All worked well using 2009 Revit or Architecture on XP machines. However, we added new faster Windows 7 machines with 2012 products. The PCs are all 64 bit with 16g RAM and a 22mb internet connection.
I sometimes need to access my parents' PC for various reasons (ie. changing colour settings/fixing email probs) when I'm away from home. On our old Mac we used to use Timbuktu, which was quite good, but now we have a PC I believe there are better PC-PC remote access tools.
I work for a large enterprise that has many machines(all the same) that have Inventor 2010 with the 3GB switch enabled. However, when a user tries to remotely connect the machine with the switch enabled, using Windows RDC, they are unable to. After removing the switch, the user is able to remote successfully. Other forums suggested that the "SessionImageSpace" in the registry needed to be edited to allow for the connection, but that did not work for me.

I am just starting to use ilogic for some design files. We have two design sites connected with Vault Collaboration 2012.
What is the best practice for sharing the ilogic rules between the sites?
I was planning on making an ilogic rules folder at the root of my workspace and having Vault manage the external rules. However, I don't see the rules listed when I check-in a file that uses them.
Do I have to add the rules to my template files? If so, how do I make changes to the rules without editing every file created with the templates?
We will be moving to Vault and IV 2014 after the first of the year, if that makes any difference.
I developed a program in VBA that used a form to allow users to create new dwg files based on selected criteria the vba program would then create and open the new dwg file and in the case of sheet files, it would populate title block attributes as well.
In vba, the forms focus was carried to the new file so the application would fill in the attributes, etc. as described above,
However in vb.net, I have not been able to get the form to recognize the new file. The program creates and opens the file, however the forms focus is still on the initial file so any actions to be applied to the new file are not carried out.
How to share custom projection files with multiple users? I created a custom projection for C3D on my computer, now I need to give it to several other people. Can't seem to find where this file is stored.
I have an issue where 2 users need to work in an .idw file on sepearate pages, however it appears that not all the changes carry over whenr the repective users save and update.
I have Photoshop Extended as part of CS4. I am trying to open RAW files from my Canon 5D Mark II for batch processing. Each time the RAW file is opened it brings up some form of viewer where I need to click OPEN Image. This prevents me from automating my actions on multiple files.
when i unload my camera into my catalog adobe photoshop on my user screen my wife is unable to view the pics. is there a way where i can share the pics among everyone?i should say that when she looks on them they have red 'x' on them and can't find the file but if you change to whose ever user screen i downloaded the pcs on they are fine pictures vista
We've a customer using Inventor and Inventor Publisher. They ordered an iPad sales support App from us. Is there a programming library for iOS available with the same visualization component as the IPM Viewer App that we can integrate it in our App? If yes, how to get it? If no, how do I get into contact with the product management?
I recently created some iLogic based components. I wonder how difficult it is to protect the iLogic code, similar as VBA code which can be password protected.
The reason being:
1. Of course, to hide & protect the creator's modeling logic;
2. To avoid the relation between parameters being messed up by the end user unintensionally.
I did have the opportunity to raise the question during the Portathon event and the answer was that the protection not directly available, though the workaround could be mixing with some Inventor API coding in .NET.
However, this might defeat one of the benefits of iLogic, simple and ease to use, gentlr learning curve, especially for users with VBA experience. .NET might not be so easy for a lot of engineers from mechanical or other disciplines.
1 Disable the "Edit" button for iLogic components, including rules, forms, etc.;
2. Put all code that are to be protected in an external file, and then make that file unreadable (password protected, or other protection) to un-intended user, however, readable to those who have proper access privelege.
We are using Autodesk Inventor for our 3D modelling and we are working together with a group of scientists.
Those people would like to see our models, rotate them, take measurements, change the visibility of parts or subassemblies and maybe even make cross sections.
It works quite well with the Design Review program, but unfortunately our scientists mostly use Mac OS or Linux. Running Design Review under a windows emulation is not an option for our big models.
We are currently using Inventor 2013 without Vault and I discovered that multiple users can open the same IPT file at the same time with no warning message or read only access like we get in Autocad. We have 6 designers all using the same Project that is a single user project. We normally don't have more than no person working on the same part or assembly, but it did happen. Two designers opened the same file to make separate changes not knowing that the other was in the file. Not until one of them went to save the file did he know someone else was also in the file. When he went to save the file he then got a warning - "A later version of this file has been saved by (user). Saving the file would overwrite changes, which is not allowed. If you wish to preserve your changes, use the Save Copy As command." In Autocad if you try to open a file that someone else has open you get the warning right away and are forced to open it read only or not at all. Is there a way to set Inventor to do the same thing? Other than using Vault and having to checkin/checkout every file. Our six designers work on an average of 50+ parts per week and many times have multiple files open at the same time to use as reference. Also the shop floor opens our files to use for programming and asking them to checkin/checkout files would not be received well. The shop floor has "read only" rights as determined by our network. Does our network settings determine if more than one person can open the same file?
Within my InventorAddin in vb.net we are trying to force users to a particular folder when they save 3D Parts, Drawings etc.
This 'SaveAs' form does indeed fire, but after the 'Inventor' own 'SaveAs' form window. Can we suppress 'Inventors' window or even change that so it points to our preferred location.?
If we do not do this we are goinf to have 3D Drawings in the Parts folder etc etc.
PrivateSub applicationEvents_OnSaveDocument(DocumentObject As Inventor._Document, BeforeOrAfter As Inventor.EventTimingEnum, Context As Inventor.NameValueMap, ByRef HandlingCode As Inventor.HandlingCodeEnum) Handles applicationEvents.OnSaveDocument If iApplication.ActiveEditDocument.FileSaveCounter = 0 Then
I´m looking for a program, etc. that allows internal staff to view corelfiles in a web-based program. Our CMS is webbased. To see the clients logos we must convert them to jgp to view them in the cms.
How to reduce this conversation work and view the cdr-files in a size 300 x 300 max pxl directly in Internet Explorer 8.0? We can install a separate program, so it is not nessesary to view them over the www.
We have had this issue now for a couple years and don't know what is causing it. We are using vault pro with admin set single project file. A user can work for months using correct.ipj, then randomly at 10:42 they will notice the active project was been changed to some other temporary project location "c: emp.....". Then it will happen to different users at different times. I cant seem to find any correlation to anything. I can only imagine that it is somehow triggered from the vault addin.
I have one large assembly for hose routing it consists of around 1000 hoses all hoses are coming in main assembly but delivery date is very short. My plan is work on same assembly 5 people how it works?
One idea is like working in sub assemblies but in my case only one assembly consist of all hoses.
How to work multiple users in single assembly file at same time. like in solid works enable collabarative mode.
I recently installed Corel Paintshop PhotoPro X3. I find now that when I double-click a gif file (and I think some other types) it is opened with Corel Instant Viewer rather than Microsoft Office 2010. I want Office to be the default viewer, so from Windows Explorer I right-clicked the gif file, selected "Open with..." then "Select default program", then Microsoft Office 2010, and checked "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file", finally "OK". The file then opened with Office. However the next time I double-clicked the same file, it opened once more with Corel Instant Viewer.
The procedure I followed has worked in other cases, so I don't understand why it doesn't work now. Is there any way of preventing Corel Instant Viewer from being the default viewer short of uninstalling it?
a powerpoint presentation, for a software package that I have designed, and written, for use with AutoDesk Inventor.Could I ask you if you could spare just 2 minutes of your time to look at the presentation, so that I can gauge your impressions of the software, and the power point presentation itself.
The powerpoint presentation will give you a brief description of the software's capabilities
I'm fairly new to Map 3D and I'm trying to attach either an Excel or Access file as a data source. I started out with a simple test case and created both Excel and Access files following the steps outlined in the first reply in post:
[URL].......
When I get to the drag & drop step to attach the data I get the following error messages:
Invalid Wordspace file format: My DocumentsTEST.xlsx Invalid Wordspace file format: My DocumentsTEST.accdb
Not to be deterred, I saved the source files back to earlier xls and mdb file versions and was successful at attaching the data in both cases, but Map reported that there were no tables when I tried to define a link template.
My company has recently bought out a smaller firm. IT has setup everything through our "pipeline" so that there is a direct connection to both offices. The servers are all mapped pretty much identically and we are beginning to work on the same projects between the offices. However, this is putting a huge lag on the "pipeline" slowing down all the data going back and forth. Now they would like the Technicians to refrain from opening drawing files over the network.
So, I am wondering if the CLOUD is an option to handle this for our shared projects? Or Vault?

i install autodesk remote to try it out from home. when i went to my office to the actual work station i rebooted my machine and now im getting a popup box that says my menu file is write protected. i uninstalled the file, and rebooted my machine and im still getting this warning that my menu is write protected,. no other work station is getting this error, the menu file is a shared file running off a network and no other versions exists on my hard drive.
I am trying to write a small standalone app in C# that I can run when I have an assembly document open. I want the app to iterate through all the parts in the assembly and set the iproperties. I am having some trouble accessing the iproperties however.
I want (for example) to set the "TITLE" in the "DOCUMENT SUMMARY INFORMATION" to be a concatenation of the part number and the description separated by a " - ".how to access these properties.
My company has an excel program that extracts data from AutoCAD title blocks, processes it, turns it into printable spradsheet BOM's, and uploads the data to our ERP software. We're currently starting a transition form AutoCAD to Inventor. I've been asked to figure out how to make our excel program work with Inventor.
I'm hoping (but not expecting) to be able to change some lines around in the section that deals with extracting data and get it to work that way. I'm pretty sure of what needs to change, but I'm not so sure what it needs to change to. Does anyone know of any resources that someone who just started programming a couple weeks ago (me) could look at to learn more about how Inventor interfaces with VBA?
The other possible route I see is to export drawings from Inventor into AutoCAD.
The excel program reads block attributes. I've read that Inventor's version of attributes is prompted entry text, however, when I export Inventor drawings with prompted entry text lines that match the attribute lines from the old AutoCAD block they come in different. They're not editable inside of AutoCAD and the excel program doesn't see them. I haven't the slightest idea what's happening here.
A third way would be to use Inventor's iProperties, but there again, I don't know where to find information for the coding side.
