AutoCAD Inventor :: 2 Users In 1 IDW?
Sep 19, 2013I have an issue where 2 users need to work in an .idw file on sepearate pages, however it appears that not all the changes carry over whenr the repective users save and update.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently created some iLogic based components. I wonder how difficult it is to protect the iLogic code, similar as VBA code which can be password protected.
The reason being:
1. Of course, to hide & protect the creator's modeling logic;
2. To avoid the relation between parameters being messed up by the end user unintensionally.
I did have the opportunity to raise the question during the Portathon event and the answer was that the protection not directly available, though the workaround could be mixing with some Inventor API coding in .NET.
However, this might defeat one of the benefits of iLogic, simple and ease to use, gentlr learning curve, especially for users with VBA experience. .NET might not be so easy for a lot of engineers from mechanical or other disciplines.
1 Disable the "Edit" button for iLogic components, including rules, forms, etc.;
2. Put all code that are to be protected in an external file, and then make that file unreadable (password protected, or other protection) to un-intended user, however, readable to those who have proper access privelege.
We are using Autodesk Inventor for our 3D modelling and we are working together with a group of scientists.
Those people would like to see our models, rotate them, take measurements, change the visibility of parts or subassemblies and maybe even make cross sections.
It works quite well with the Design Review program, but unfortunately our scientists mostly use Mac OS or Linux. Running Design Review under a windows emulation is not an option for our big models.
We are currently using Inventor 2013 without Vault and I discovered that multiple users can open the same IPT file at the same time with no warning message or read only access like we get in Autocad. We have 6 designers all using the same Project that is a single user project. We normally don't have more than no person working on the same part or assembly, but it did happen. Two designers opened the same file to make separate changes not knowing that the other was in the file. Not until one of them went to save the file did he know someone else was also in the file. When he went to save the file he then got a warning - "A later version of this file has been saved by (user). Saving the file would overwrite changes, which is not allowed. If you wish to preserve your changes, use the Save Copy As command." In Autocad if you try to open a file that someone else has open you get the warning right away and are forced to open it read only or not at all. Is there a way to set Inventor to do the same thing? Other than using Vault and having to checkin/checkout every file. Our six designers work on an average of 50+ parts per week and many times have multiple files open at the same time to use as reference. Also the shop floor opens our files to use for programming and asking them to checkin/checkout files would not be received well. The shop floor has "read only" rights as determined by our network. Does our network settings determine if more than one person can open the same file?

When reviewing the system requirements for Inventor Viewer 2014, I noticed that it lists only Windows 7 and Windows 8. If we do not do this we are goinf to have 3D Drawings in the Parts folder etc etc.

We have had this issue now for a couple years and don't know what is causing it. We are using vault pro with admin set single project file. A user can work for months using correct.ipj, then randomly at 10:42 they will notice the active project was been changed to some other temporary project location "c: emp.....". Then it will happen to different users at different times. I cant seem to find any correlation to anything. I can only imagine that it is somehow triggered from the vault addin.
We are inventor 1012 and vault 2012 pro.
I have one large assembly for hose routing it consists of around 1000 hoses all hoses are coming in main assembly but delivery date is very short. My plan is work on same assembly 5 people how it works?
One idea is like working in sub assemblies but in my case only one assembly consist of all hoses.
How to work multiple users in single assembly file at same time. like in solid works enable collabarative mode.
a powerpoint presentation, for a software package that I have designed, and written, for use with AutoDesk Inventor.Could I ask you if you could spare just 2 minutes of your time to look at the presentation, so that I can gauge your impressions of the software, and the power point presentation itself.
The powerpoint presentation will give you a brief description of the software's capabilities
I'm having a problem with text on the layout sheet moving between my computer and another user's.
Text and lines will be in place, and legible on one screen and saved as. when the other user opens the file, some of the text shifts from left to right.
Everything in model space is fine, its just the layout space where this occurs.
I recently upgraded AutoCAD LT to 2013. It now appears that we need to drop the save as format back down to 2010 format.
I realise that there is a reg edit for "defaultFormatForSave" which can be changed to "48" but when a user first runs AutoCAD LT the setting is overwritten.
change the default save format to the 2010 format?
issue, more than 1 user needing to work on the same file. Of course this can create problems, like time mangement or users creating their own copies of files which leads to confusion about revisions etc.
I've looked into the possibility of using 'shared' files which updates edits made from multiple users but so far a solution has proved elusive. The only thing I found is called CadVault, but I don't think this does what I would like.
I got the idea from using shared Excel documents and it seems to work well, and IMO, CAD is the typical kind of application that requires this kind of manipulation, but I've never worked for a company that uses such a method. I'm baffled by the lack of information / support for this, unless I'm overlooking something.
I am working in Civil 3d 2012. Right now, we have about 5-6 different people using this software in the office. Each person has their own likes/dislikes for layer colors (also for their display color). BUT we all want to plot with the same lineweights.
What happens is the surveyor creates the drawing and existing layers (with a template). The engineer then uses the same drawing to design and create contours. The drafter then uses the same drawing to clean things up for final printing. So we have roughly 3 people using the same drawing. But the surveyor uses a black display and anything that is blue doesn't show up well, so they have it on one the lightest lineweights. I (the drafter) use a gray display have have no problem with blue so it's one of my darker lineweights.
What I'm hoping to do is create some kind of a scheme that would allow the user to simply change the color scheme (on screen) to match their likings. Similar to the User Interface. For instance in User 1 scheme, Color 8 = Blue. Then we can have multiple plot tables that would correspond to the colors.
how I can move a user from one computer to another and have them keep all of their settings in AutoCAD Architecture 2013.
We are upgrading user laptops. I have used the Windows 7 Easy File Transfer utility on the first couple, but it does not appear to copy the users AutoCAD settings. When they open AutoCAD for the first time on the new computer, they have to set up all of their toolbars, etc again.
I have even tried copy and paste of theWin 7 AppData Local, LocalLow and Roaming folders ... but even that does not tranfer over the toolbars, menus, etc...
make it so that when a user logs into the new computer and opens AutoCAD, it is exactly as it was on the old computer?
Map 3d 2011.User A connects to SDE using FDO and creates a dwg containing Mastermap data and other shape files held in SDE.User A saves Map 3D dwg on network drive that all users can access where all acad dwgs, docs etc. for that project are stored.
User B who is working on the same project at another PC tries to open the Map 3D dwg created by user A from the shared network drive but gets a "Failed to open FDO connection" error and cannot open the dwg.
Is this because Map 3D caches all data from SDE on the local drive of the PC on which the dwg was created? Is there a way around this to allow both users to access the same drawings?

I have Autodesk Design Academy 2013 installed on a lab of computers in my domain. Students have been successfully using Inventor 2013 so far this year, and now they are trying to use AutoCAD 2013 and Mechanical 2013 but are encountering an error. When trying to start either of these programs, an MSI installer starts (I suppose for user-specific files) and then the message box below pops up:
After closing out the error boxes, the programs simply do not start. The domain users have their personal folders redirected from a network share, which is listed in the error box. Why these MSIs can't access the network location, I don't know, because the user logged in has full permissions on their own folder, and they can indeed access their folder from these computers. When I log in to the computer with a local administrative account, the programs work without error. how can I get around this so my users can actually use the software? Is there a registry key I can change to point to the local drive instead of their personal folders?
My office is running into a printing issue, when different people are plotting off the same drawing file.
I've checked the .CTB file, all of us are using the same file, all .CTB parameters are identical, and no line weights have been set up within the layers, all are set to default, and no transparency has been used.
One man prints the file from AutoCAD2013, on a Windows 7-32bit computer, to our HP Laser Jet 8150N and his drawing comes out light.
I print the same drawing file from AutoCAD2012, on a Windows 7-32bit computer to the same printer with the same .CTB file and my drawing file prints dark. Much darker than his does.
We're having the same issue with other computers here in the office all printing to the same printer using exactly the same .CTB file. I've checked all the versions of Windows, and we're all using Windows 7 32-bit.
The only thing I can think of is that maybe we have different graphics cards as the computers have been purchased at different times.
I developed a program in VBA that used a form to allow users to create new dwg files based on selected criteria the vba program would then create and open the new dwg file and in the case of sheet files, it would populate title block attributes as well.
In vba, the forms focus was carried to the new file so the application would fill in the attributes, etc. as described above,
However in vb.net, I have not been able to get the form to recognize the new file. The program creates and opens the file, however the forms focus is still on the initial file so any actions to be applied to the new file are not carried out.
I have a SheetSet of a wastewater treatment plant that contains 70 sheets fully developed. The SheetSet incorporates Sheet Views, ViewLabels, and View Callouts as part of the SheetSet as well as Fields in the standard titleblock for Sheet Title and Sheet Number. A Sheet List Table created from the Sheet Set is used as the Project Sheet Index.
There are Structural and Mechanical (HVAC) drawings that require design subcontractor review and editing. These design subcontractors will make their own edits to our existing drawings. They are outside our office and have no direct digital connectivity with us. It is most likely not possible to provide them connectivity to our project file storage space for non-technical reasons. (i.e. it may be technically possible but not possible for other reasons not under my control.) Their knowledge and proficiency with Sheet Sets is unknown.
What is the, or is there a, best method for accomplishing coordination of our Sheet Set with the subcontractor edits under these conditions?
If digital connectivity between our offices is possible, what is the best practice / scenario for Sheet Sets with that setup?I'll need to send the files to these subcontractors or establish connectivity in the next few days!

Is there a way I can install a zxp file for all users of a machine, rather than just the user who is currently logged on? I think they only install for the currently logged on user, but most users dont have admin rights on the PCs so they can't install stuff anyway.

We're a college and we're having trouble with Photoshop CS6 opening for 4 [at the moment] individual users. The error follows them from mac to mac, but another ue can log on after them and everything works fine, so it must somehow be linked to their profiles, but we've reset/deleted these and it's made no difference. I've attached screenshots of the 4 error messages they get. because at the moment these students cannot do their work properly?
