AutoCAD Inventor :: Put Together Transition Box Assembly - 12N U Joint

Jun 17, 2013

I am trying to put together a transition box assembly but I am in need of a 12N U-Joint. iPart/iAssembly of the u-joint would be even better...then I won't be back looking for the smaller u-joints I am going to need later.

(More.png)  The other is the assembly I am working on which contains less available joints.  (Less.png)

AutoCAD Inventor :: Joint / Constraint Control Panel

Nov 15, 2013

It would be a nice feature to have a control panel in Inventor where you could take certain driven constraints and put them on this control than hit a momentary button to make your model move. Once example would be a hydraulic cylinder. Presently, we drive the cylinder to put things into motion, but I have to access thru browser and usually add symbols to make the constraint stand out (See image). If I had a control panel where I could tie that driven constrain to it and depress a toggle/button which would activate the constrain. I would then have full control and almost act like it would in the real world.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Dynamic Simulation - Use Spring Joint Or Force?

Jan 28, 2013

I'm designing a hinged cover for something right now that will use a pair of gas extension springs  for assisted opening.    I'm currently working to figure out how much force it will take to open the cover using different values of spring - it's available in 50, 100, 150, 200, etc., lb versions.

I've tried running simulations using a force applied to the moving end of the gas spring, and I've trued running simulations using a spring joint applied between the fixed and and the moving end of the gas spring, and I'm getting dramatically different results between the two.  For instance, using a 200 lb force shows me that I need about 25 extra lbs of force applied to the handle of the cover to open it, where when I use that same 200 lbs on a spring joint, I need 50-75 lbs to keep the cover closed, because it will open on its own.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Sliding Joint Restriction In Dynamic Simulation

Jul 24, 2013

I have an issue with a sliding joint in a simulation. Here we have a very simple box with a cylinder that slides around a closed loop curve. The curve as you will see is described by two circles and one elipse that all overlap to give a smooth closed loop. In the assemble this all works fine - you can freely drag the cylinder around the curve. However in dynamic simulation when I try to insert a 'sliding cyclinder on curve' joint I get the message that only lines, arcs and splines can be used for a curve. If I change the elipse to another circle then I don't have this problem. So is Inventor restricted to arcs of circles rather than arcs of elipses? Is there a way around this?, Do have I have to draw the whole curve as a spline?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Relationships Created With Joint Command Fail In Studio

Oct 17, 2013

Now Inventor allows users to create relationships with Joint or Constrain/Assemble commands. Both of these methods let the creation of Positional Representation, but when animating them in Inventor Studio, only animations created with Pos Reps from constraints work. Animated Pos Reps created with joints don't work at all.

Is this a bug? Will this problem be fixed soon (with SP, Updates or any Hotfix), or would it be fixed in the next release?

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Assembly Has Double User Request At Inserting In Assembly

Sep 18, 2012

We have an iLogic assembly with to parts in it. Maybe to cylindrical parts. The iLogic rules should do the following.

1. Start a Rule after open document.

2. This Rule starts a Rule in the first cylindrical component.

3. This Rule ask the user for a diameter.

4. The assembly gives this new parameter value to the second component

5. Then the assembly calls another rule in the second component to change it with the new parameter

Everything is working fine when the following combinations are taking place:

1. I open up the assembly out of vault or from a local drive or an accessible server drive

2. I insert the assembly as sub assembly in another assembly from a local drive or an accessible server drive

It don't work with the following situation:

- I insert the assembly as sub assembly in another assembly out of vault

Then the user becomes the dialog "Choose a diameter" twice.

I don't know why, but I have the idea it has something to do with the functionality of inventor to insert a component more than once. If you insert a component in an assembly Inventor gives you the opportunity to add more than one occurence after each other.

change that behaviour? Maybe a switch to change that inventor "add more than one occurence" behaviour.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Tube And Pipe Assembly Styles Don't Translate Into Other Assembly Files

I have encountered a problem with the Tube and Pipe styles.

As you can see, I have a rack assembly with a custom tube and pipe style. A wire as a tube in orange, and a tube support in white. Both have their seperate colorations at a style in the tube and pipe styles editor

When placing the rack assembly into the main assembly, it reverts to the coppor coloration I changed from the original style.

Steps I've taken:

Exported the styles .xml and Imported the styles into the master tubeandpipe.iam

Imported the user created .xml styles into the main assembly file nothing seems to work

AutoCAD Inventor :: Find Interior Volume Of Assembly By Subtracting Assembly From Block

Apr 23, 2012

I am trying to find the interior volume of an assembly (when am I not?!?!) by subtracting the assembly from a block that surrounds the most of it.  Somewhere the assembly has a "leak" and I have been trying to use the Cross Section Analysis to track down where the inside lump is connected to the outside lump to be subtracted.  Is there a less time consuming way to dynamically drag a plane across and get cross sectional views?

Even better is there a simple way to animate the analysis plane moving across the block so I can hopefully just watch and pause it when I find a leak?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Make Sub Assembly From Parts From Main Larger Assembly?

Oct 31, 2011

My assembly has grown (about 50 parts) to where I need to consolodate some parts into subassemblies for reuse and alternate iterations of the basic design.

When I import the original parts into a new assembly, all of the constrains I created are not there of course.

I've tried creating a new empty part and then deriving a new part from the assembly, but I can't add, delete or edit any parts.

I looked at using Shrinkwrap, Substitutes, iParts, Multi-body Parts, and Multiple Solids but I remain confused.

In retrospect, maybe I should have created the subassemblies between the part and assembly stage but I didn't.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Square To Round Transition Options

Apr 14, 2012

I have a square to round transition that I need formed up and the shop is telling me that they would prefer to split this thing at the corners rather than the flats. I've tried two different ways of doing this but how to handle this part. It's 10.75" OD at the bottom and 2'-4" square at the top and 1'3" in length and made of 1/4" stainless steel plate. The shop wants this in four bent pieces that they can weld together down the corners.

I've tried making just the one side but I'm not getting the results I would like to see. Making the full transition (as in the picture above) gives the finished result I am looking for but I can't separate it into multiple sides.
