AutoCAD Inventor :: Chamfer In IDWs
Dec 5, 2012Is there a way to dimension chamfers like in the second pic below so that the values update. You can do a linear dimension and then alter the text and try and find that dimension in the list, but the chamfer tool works well with two clicks but you only get it with a leader. I would like the same function but with a linear dimension sometimes. It would be good if you could choose it. 45° is probably not a really good example, but the leader version is not always so clear.

Aug 14, 2013I am working on a new concept design for one of our customers. A critical design parameter is the weight of each of several sub-assemblies.
I have an idw of the top level assembly where I have added Parts Lists of each of the critical subs to show the weight of the components used in each sub assembly. I would like to add a line at the bottom of each Parts List that shows the total weight of that sub assembly. I would also like the header of the Parts List to display the Part Number (from the sub assembly iprops).
Is there a way to get why I want from IV? I am currently using IV 2012. I have attached a .pdf mockup of what I want.

Jun 19, 2013I've inserted <CREATION DATE> into the custom title blocks I normally use for drawings. It displays the date without preceding zeros (example: June 18, 2013 is displayed as "6/18/2013" instead of "06/18/2013"). How can I change this?

May 14, 2012When working in detail drawings inventor progessivly gets slower, the more information on the drawing, the worse it gets.I was watching the task manager, For ANY command, the 1st core runs at 100% for up to 30 seconds, while this is happening, Inventor is dead.
EG, add a revision row, delete a symbol, zoom in or out, pan, add a dimension, move a leader etc.for each command/move takes 10 to 30 seconds to get control, it took me 45 minutes, to add a revision row and print 15 drawings this morning.

Apr 26, 2012we have simple assemblies with bolted weldments and few misc. parts. most assemblies are 3-20 parts a typical project would have:
-a few laser cut parts, some plastic and hardware. these items need to have part drawings sent to a vendor.
-some in house cretaed parts that need a drawing
-assembly drawing for our shop
i think i am seeing that by having one single IDW its getting hard to send all the drawings to the people that need them. an example would be if a vendor calls about one part, i may send him a 4 page PDF and tell him to look on sheet 2.the other issue that i have is that my standard work flow is:
-design a product
-hand of to another dept for them to enter SKU numbers for parts and assemblies.
so my file names never match what the final product name is. i have been using fields in the iPROP, but it would be nice to revise file names when SKUs are created. im guessing vault would be the tool for something like that?

I have AutoCAD 2013 and access drawings over VPN (6 meg pipe).
Both opening the drawings and especially printing them take a very long time.
It takes about 8 seconds to open drawings, due to all the modules loading on the bottom-left of AutoCAD. Printing takes even longer than opening the drawings.
Is there a setting I can change to speed-up access time?

Apr 1, 2013I created a small object using Inventor 2013.
The base of this object is just a cylinder with diameter of 3.599 mm. (see attached image M1).
Now I wanted to 3D print this object. Inventor creates the *.STL-file.
The Inventor 3D print dialog shows a witdh and length of arround 4.12 mm by a scaling of 1.000 !?!
Why it is bigger than what I created? It should be 3.6 mm.
If I upload this to shapeways they show also 0.4 cm width / length. So my object will printed a littlebit larger than I created !?!
Even if I change the resolution inside the STL-dialog it does not change anything. Why the STL-Object is bigger than the model I created?

May 19, 2009I am working in Inventor Professional 2008, using the harness package. I have a few white wires in the model I am trying to print off as a nailboard and in a routing diagram. The problem is simply that white wires do not print well on white paper. I can print pdfs using "print all colors as black" but then all greyed out components print poorly.Is there a way to print an outline on these wires, for example?

Aug 9, 2013My production team uses the Inventor View to view drawings once they are released from engineering. Sometimes they get printed so they can send a copy to our vendors. When ever they print from Inventor View 2014 the lines that are on the Visible Layer do not print. Also the lines in the titeblock are not very dark even though the "print all colors black" has been checked. It does not matter which printer or computer is used.

Nov 26, 2008We've been having trouble with all our IDW's, whenever we put a dimension or text with the diameter symbol it plots as 'Q'.
Even in print preview it still appears as the diameter symbol, although when actually printed, it comes out as 'Q'. To combat this in the meantime we have firstly been creating PDF's which display the correct diameter symbol and then printing.
i.e Ø30 on IDW prints as Q30 on paper.
We are using Autodesk inventor suite 2009.
