AutoCAD Inventor :: Printing Drawings On Multiple Sheets?
Aug 15, 2012
I've got a drawing that is 14"x12" and have a printer that can only handle 8.5 x 11 sheets. I need to print it out full scale because I plan on using the drawing to cut something out. In school, I have seen my teacher print the drawing across multiple sheets, and then he simply tapes the sheets together. I have tried every configuration possible and have had no success.

We are looking for an easy straightforward way to print / export an entire set of sheets to pdf.The sheets have different papersizes and we want them to be named with the sheet number + name, and possible a prefix by choice.We have Adobe Acrobat X installed as pdf printer.So far we managed to print an entire set to pdf with these somewhat annoying issues:
1. The naming adds the word "sheet" between the chosen prefix and number-name.can we get rid of this?
2. The prints seem only to follow the actual Revit Print-setup, on papersizes.Which means that we need to have print-sessions on every paper size used in a project.Strange that in Revit the paper print-setup, doesnt follow the sheet definitions.(?)Is there a way within Revit to solve this to a more automated workflow?Or do we have to implement third party plugiins / solutions?

I am trying to find an automated way to rename multiple sheets when creating Inventor drawings.
I have an Inventor assembly, and I need to create a drawing for each component in this assembly. I have one Inventor Drawing with multiple sheets in it. Each sheet is for each part in the assembly.
I would like to loop though each sheet and rename the sheet name to the Part number of the part. Is there a simple way to do this though i Logic? And how would I go about doing something like this?

From all our parts of an assembly we made 1 IDW with multiple sheets. Now we want to convert this IDW to PDF's and in such a way that we have one PDF for each sheet, and each PDF files needs the same name as the sheet.

I know you can insert an Excel spread sheet into the general table and have that show up on the drawing, but it has limitations to it that Excel gives you. My question is there a way to bring the Excel spread sheet into the drawing that would give you Excel functionality?

Is is possible to "que" a bunch of drawings to be plotted? I would like to be able to open a drawing and plot it, then while it's plotting, open another drawing and plot it, then another and so on and so on. However, I get an error message stating that another plot is in process and only one plot or publish process can be active at one time. Thus, I'm forced to wait for the last one to complete before sending the next one to the plotter.

I would like to use Drag2PDF to create my PDF, and I want to automate the printing process. I want to print all sheets as a one PDF file. I have created a simple C# code, which prints to PDF, but I have one problem... When I submit the print a dialogue will appear (from the Drag2PDF) which asks for the file to be saved (location and name) How can I automate this?
I may not use pdfAddIn.SaveCopyAs, it makes my PDF not good.
public void PrintDrawingToPDF() {
Inventor.DrawingPrintManager oPrintMgr = (Inventor.DrawingPrintManager)InventorOpen._invApp.ActiveDocument.PrintManager;
oPrintMgr.Printer = "Drag2PDF";
oPrintMgr.PaperSize = PaperSizeEnum.kPaperSizeA3;
oPrintMgr.PrintRange = PrintRangeEnum.kPrintAllSheets;
oPrintMgr.SubmitPrint();
}

Is there a way in Inventor 2011 to automatically copy a parts list from an assembly on sheet 1 to the other sheets in a drawing? We generally have large assembly drawings with the same assembly spread out over several sheets and have to create a new parts list and update it separatly on each sheet. We also have this issue with revision information which we store in a symbol but parts lists are more prevelent of an issue.

the only property I can actually define for each individual sheet (for use in iLogic, text fields, etc.) is the sheet name. This is extremely limiting. Each sheet in my drawings has several properties of its own--sheet number (most importantly), what part is ON the sheet, the designer, the revision, etc. I would love to be able to use each of these in labels on the sheet, for example, a text box with "<Sheet #> - <Part> (<Designer>)". The only possible way I could do something like this is to use the sheet number as the Sheet Name, and then use that value in the sheet's text labels, headings, and title block. However, I want to be able to use descriptive names for the Sheet Name, plus that's just one property.
Is there any way I can create and define multiple custom properties for individual sheets? I was exploring the idea of using iLogic, using the ActiveSheet command, possibly, and "tricking" inventor into creating properties for a given sheet.

We have created a complex Inventor drawing (Inventor 2013) of a very large plant item which we need to print at about 2AO to put up on a wall for training use. We want to create a high resolution PDF file of the drawing first and then print the PDF having checked the quality and resolution in Acrobat Reader.
We have tried exporting to PDF but we found that the colour shaded fills, behind the lines, are too compressed and the resolution very poor. We tried increasing the paper size but this did not work.We have tried creating a plot file by printing to file using the driver of a large roll feed plotter and then creating a PDF from the resulting file. This was a little more successful but still a long way short of the resolution or line quality we require. When you zoom in the curved lines are very jagged and the colour fill still not good.
We tried printing to a generic Postscript driver but this was even worse as we didn't have enough control over paper size or resolution.

I have written a program within Inventor that list all components of an assy with their properties (iproperties and properties from Producstream) and allow an export of the bill of material to Excel with our company layout.
I want to add a function to my program in order to print all drawings that belong to an assy.
I have the list of components and I want to use the new functionality of the Producstream menu that allows us to open the attached drawing.
But I don’t know which library and which property.

shouldn't sheets marked as "exclude from count" not be counted?
I tried this in both 2013 and 2012 to see if maybe AutoDesk broke it, but it doesn't work in either one. This is easily reproducible for me, a file shouldn't be necessary. Just open up (or create) a multi sheet drawing. Go to edit sheet on one or two of them and check the "exclude form count" box. Now create a new iLogic rule and put the following line into it:
MsgBox("This is the number of sheets in the drawing: " & ThisDoc.Document.Sheets.Count, VBOkOnly, "Number of Sheets")

I've created an iPart (for this discussion, lets just say a cube..)with 6 variations of the same part (its height has a choice of 6 different values in the iPart table)..I've created a drawing (idw) which dimensions the cube in one of the 6 instances..
..Is there any way to replicate the drawing another 5 times, with each referencing each instance of the iPart?
I was imagining copying the drawing 6 times and change each one to look for a different instance (a bit like when you go component - replace in an assembly..) then the drawing to automatically update the altered dimension.
this would save me producing and re-drawing 6 separate idw files for the same thing where only one dimension changes each time!

In my company they draw out multiple pages of construction drawings in 1 file. They do all their sketching off to the side and then bring the finish detail onto the sheet that will be plotted out later.
They then start a new sheet below it and continue onward until they have 20 plus drawings in one DWG file.
What I want to do is print each drawing individually to whatever plotter or printer I set up. I can't batch file as I understand it because there are so many pages of a print in 1 drawing. Because all the DWG file has multiple pages I have to go thru several windows to get each page plotted out.
Is there a script or batch file that I can use that I can set up the plot and then for example highlight the page I want to send to the printer then go to the next print, highlight it and it gets sent to the printer without having to set up the plot again?
We use Autocad 2000 so I am working with a basic set up here without a lot of frills the later versions have. I am trying to get them to seperate the pages but that isn't working for the earlier drawings they have done.

I am creating plan sheets and using the sheet creation tool. The plan sheets I am looking to make have stacked view, similar to a plan and profile sheet, only they have the horizontal alignment in both views.
I have a template set up with two viewports, but when I try to create the sheets it puts the same view frame in both of the viewports. Is there any way to set this template up so that I can have, lets say, STA 100+00 - 110+00 in the top viewport and then STA 110+00 - 120+00 in the bottom viewport. I understand that I can move the viewports once they are created, but I would rather have that done automatically. I am not sure if what I want done is possible with Civil 3D.

I am using the student version of Revit and have desparately been trying to create a document that would print to scale. I use PDF creator to convert Revit to pdf, but it always comes messed up by an inch or so...insted of 4.6, it prints 4.75 (or the other way around). I tried formating my title block in many different ways, including deleting the outer lines. Nothing works. There is no Arch D format in the family of titleblocks. I am a complete beginner, just started using Revit a couple months ago, with no knowledge of CAD or anything similar. When I look at the PDF creator page of my doc, it shows that the doc has been properly sized, but when the print place prints it out, it is off by 1" or so.
How do I format my sheet so it prints to scale in format 24" X36"?

I am using Rel. 2012. I would like to hear what some of the practices are regarding a general note used on multiple plan sheets. What I have is a plan set with 150 sheets. On each sheet a general note is required that likely will be revised by agencies reviewing the plans. Currently I have a base cadd file with the note and I x-ref that drawing into each sheet.

I'm having an intermittent issue with my publish command. So far the pattern seems to be on drawings with a larger number of sheets (last one was 15, this one is 7). When I get the publish dialog box, I'll set the number of copies to however many I need but it ends up only printing one set. It doesn't happen every time. Just with these two drawings so far. They have nothing to do with each other and haven't shared any data. The only similiarity is that they're both older projects that were started some years ago on previous CAD versions.

When using the publish command to print multiple sheets from Civil 3D, it will sometimes fail to print certain objects. Usually it is a profile. Occasionally it drops some of the pipes. When we plot sheets individually it plots fine. Only C3D objects are affected, not regular ACAD objects. It only seems to be pipes and profiles. This problem is sporadic. It may be drawing specific but the sporadic nature of it makes it hard to say for sure.
The way we set up our drawings, profiles and pipes are almost always DREF's. This appears to be related. If we creat a test drawing with everything in one drawing publish works fine. If we then seperate into two drawings, DREF the data, and then publish again, the pipes disappear (from the plot not the drawing itself).
The same problem occurs on two different printers so I don't think it's driver related.
It started happening when we were on 2008. I thought maybe it was just that version. However, it seems to have gotten worse in 2009.

When creating plan and profile sheets with multiple alignments in the view, what is a common practice in civil 3d?
- Data shortcut all alignments that are in the view into the plan and profile model
- Create a dwg that has all the alignments data shortcutted and xref that into the plan and profile dwg
- Create a dwg for each alignment and xref into an overall alignment dwg via attach and then xref the overall into the pp sheets dwg model.
