AutoCAD Inventor :: Print / Save DWG To PDF
Jun 15, 2012
I am simply trying to print or save an Inventor .DWG file to a .PDF file via C# - the issue being that the .PDF page size must correspond to the active sheet size in Inventor.
When I try printing to a PDF using:
oPrint.Printer = "Adobe PDF";
oPrint.ScaleMode = PrintScaleModeEnum.kPrintBestFitScale;
oPrint.PaperSize = PaperSizeEnum.kPaperSize11x17;
oPrint.Orientation = PrintOrientationEnum.kLandscapeOrientation;
oPrint.SetSheetRange(1, 1);
oPrint.PrintRange = PrintRangeEnum.kPrintSheetRange;
oPrint.SubmitPrint();
I get a message saying I have to uncheck "Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts." in the Adobe PDF settings. Is there a way to do this programmatically?
When I export to PDF using:
TranslatorAddIn PDFAddin = (TranslatorAddIn)instance.ApplicationAddIns.get_ItemById("{0AC6FD96-2F4D-42CE-8BE0-8AEA580399E4}");
TranslationContext oContext = instance.TransientObjects.CreateTranslationContext();
oContext.Type = IOMechanismEnum.kFileBrowseIOMechanism;
[Code] .....
This works but I cannot set the PDF page size. Again, is there a way to do this programmatically?
I am using Inventor 2010, Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, Windows 7, 64 bit.

Is there a way to have AutoCAD prompt the user for the name and location when Batch Plotting using DWG 2 PDF?
Currectly I can set the default location in the Publish Option by Naming and Mane are Greyed out and set to N/A.
I am able to set the Auto Publish but that only does a single sheet.

I am designing invites for my sister, who wants to print them at home (I normally send a pdf to an online printer), and it would be economical for her to print 2-up, but I cannot figure out how to save my work and allow for that.
Â
My work is a 5x7 artboard with 0.125 bleed in Illustrator. I know how to convert to a PDF with crop marks for online printers, but how do I get 2 on the page for my sis to print at home?

The Print setting in Photoshop remember everything for the file once reopened like 'type of paper, color profile, etc.', but not in Illustrator. It doesn't save the information about the Printing Preferences set with the printer for the printed file.
Â
I don't have CS6 yet, but I'd love ask if this can be done in CS6?

we have been saving super high resolution images in Photoshop by doing a "print to pdf" as we call it. You print the document, but rather than selecting an ordinary printer, you select Adobe PDF. Within the page layout of that printer, you can specify the resolution and document size to print/save, etc. I love it because you don't loose any of the integrity of the image, but the file size always ends up being in the kilabytes, rather than megs. At home, I don't seem to have that printer as an available option. I don't do the installations at my office, so I'm not sure if there is a driver that I need to install, or does that driver only come with Creative Suite?Â

We are using the Creative Cloud version of Illustrator CS6 and seemingly at random, Illustrator exhibits the following behaviors:
Â
• The Illustrator Options dialog box is not displayed during a save-as operation.
• The Save or Don't Save dialog box is not displayed when closing a file.
• The Print dialog box does not appear when printing a file. (similar to the MS Office quick-print - it still sends the print but uses last settings)
Â
As you have probably already guessed, the second behavior could be quite disastrous. This has been confirmed on four different machines, all Macs, OSX 10.8.2 with 12 - 16GB of RAM, plenty HD space, no unusual cpu activity.

Out of nowhere, the 'Save As' function isn't available in the Print Module. I have updated to 4.4, restarted Lightroom, etc. I can still export the images, just not save as a jpg.Â

When it's time to print and save contact / index sheets, Lightroom enters another dimension.
Â
Workflow as normal up to this point: Import (with 1:1 previews) a folder of NEF+JPGs, maybe a hundred or two. Edit, rename and export. Enter the Print module and setup (for the thousandth time) a contact sheet showing maybe 30-50 pics per page.
Â
Select "Draft Mode Printing" and hit PRINT and sit. The "preparing print job" progress bar appears and starts to tick off images, at about 10 seconds apiece. In LR2 this *entire process* took 1-2 seconds. So, an hour and a half later, my contact sheets are ready. I could hand-draw them faster.
Â
It does it in LR3, LR3.2 and LR 3.3. It *never* did it in LR1-2.7.

I set up films for screenprinting for remote clents, so work at 35, 45 and 55 lpi a lot. The best way, of course, is to save a pdf with postcript halftones and angles set correctly and have the client print to film through their RIP. Most of my clients don't have RIPs and never will. So I end up working with the bitmap/halftone settings in Phtoshop a lot. It takes a long time. If I could print photoshop or Illustrator seps to hi rez .tiffs (I know they have to be 1200 ppi, but we can work with that) through a RIP via a virtual printer or some other thing, it would save me a lot of time.Â

How to "grab" the print event (Ctrl-P, File Print or Print icon) from an add-in. I would like to force the user to add some information about the print in a dialog before printing a drawing.
I can't find any application or document events fired when printing like OnSaveDocument, OnQuit in the object browser.

I need to print an initial 2d sketch (without any 3d work done on it).
Printing this in sketch mode seems to output a screen capture, i.e. some lines appear wriggly and not as precise as an ordinary plot of an idw or dwg file.
A sketch w/o any 3d work will not be accepted as an idw file, thus I am not able to use all the formatting (tblocks, fonts, dimstyles, etc.) options available to idw files.
Is there a way of printing a 2d sketch (w/o any 3d work) as an idw file?

I'm creating my own title block and inserting a company logo. I go into edit title block and click insert image. I choose my .bmp file then fit it to my title block and exit sketch and save. Once out of the edit, the image looks fine but when I do a print preview the image is stretched and when I actually print the sheet, there is no image at all.

How possible it is to print drawings using a VBA script. I'm interested in forcing print size and the best fit setting.
Searching for printing/plotting yields more results about saving to dwg/pdf than printing to paper.

I've written a program that prints the drawings from an assembly. For this print to work, I have to have the drawing open (I've tried printing using the option Set doc = ThisApplication.Documents.Open(DWGName, False) but the print manager will just skip over a file that isn't open.
When I change the code to "True" Inventor wants to know if i want to check out the drawing from vault and this requires user input. Is there a way i can bypass this user input or automate an answer so the user doesn't have to constantly be clicking when batching drawings?

Ive written a program in Inventor that finds all the drawings associated with a part/assembly.
it is supposed to find and open the selected drawings invisibly but for some reason the print manager wont work unless the drawing is opened and the drawing is active. In order to make the program work I have to open each drawing then close them. every time the user must input for save changes, and checking out (which is not necessary and takes forever).
Is there a way I can print without opening the drawing and making it active?
in the attached file, Ln 49-63
'Activate the selected document
Set doc = ThisApplication.Documents.Open(Archive, False)
' The only way to make it work is to change this value to True. this sends up all sorts of pop up windows.
Set osheets = doc.Sheets
For X = 1 To osheets.Count
size = osheets.item(X).size
[Code]....

In the drawing title block I would like to place a text reading the print, date and time. This should reflect the current system date and time. I would have this done on the template file so that all new drawings will have this feature builtin.
Is there a property that i can have the text to link to?
Is there any third party program for this?

One of the drafters I work with has been having an intermittent problem with Inventor 14 deleting dimensions and notes when he prints a .idw to a .pdf. The problem first popped up when we transitioned to 14 from 12. It only happens once out of every 2 dozen or so prints and is usually caught on the redlines, but it has been overlooked once already requiring the part to be remachined at cost to our employer. No one else in our office has had the problem and it continued to happen after a reinstall; which leads me to think it's some hardware issue.
Included is a screenshot of his system information. We're running Synergis Adept file management software, that may be pertinent as well.
