AutoCAD Inventor :: Pack And Go - Remove FEA References
Feb 14, 2012
So we are wanting to send on a model to a customer. I have used pack and go with the following settings:
Copy to Single Path
Model Files Only
When I try and open the newly created files, it gives a bunch of error messages looking for FEA files, as well as missing some OLE links, which is good as I don't want to send on any FEA information with the model, but is there a way to strip that out completely from the model without having to go through each individual file and deleting all of the simulations?

So I made a shop drawing of an assembly, which is very complex and took a great deal of time to complete. It has 3 sheets and a bunch of different views and information already on the drawing.
Now the thing is I took the assembly and made it an iassembly; but I did this in another file so I wouldnt screw up all the work I did before. Now I realize that I dont have the links to the shop drawing that I wish I did.
how to link the shop drawing to the new iassembly model?

I got great results with X4, until it installed the service pack this week.. Now i cannot render an mp4 without long sections 'staggering' - like a strobing effect on the entire render, the picture lurches as it plays, and things like VLC hang when scanning thru the file..
Also, the framrate i set now has little relation to the actual outcome..
The piece i am rendering fails at a different point each time - the staggering starts and thats that, framrate drops to about 2fps - utterly useless..
I have tried removing the install and re-installing, but when i do this i can clearly see by 'check for updates' that there are no updates, which means SP2 is surviving the uninstall.
I have tried every combination of every setting for days, this is a new problem directly related to the service pack..
Where can i get a manifest of the files in the service packs? i'm going to have to remove them all by hand and start again..

lately i am often experiencing a problem, where at the opening of scene, a message pops up saying "The 3ds Max file is made of old PhysX plugin. Do you want to convert to current version?" If i click yes, then max freezes, and even after 10 minutes remains frozen, so i have to terminate the process. If i click no, then this annoying message pops up everytime i open my file. I just cannot track down the reference to PhysX plugin in my scene. I can't find it. Is there any efficient way to search & destroy scene connection with PhysX plugin. It's like a plague slowly spreading across my scenes as i merge objects between them.

Is it just me or is the window of the pack and go not resizable?
5 lines for me, is just not enough.
Any ways to increase the size?

When using pack and go, is it possible to select several idw files at the same time? The some of the idw files is using the same parts, but many is not using the same parts. The parts that I want to copy by using pack and go is not in vault.

I recently did a pack and go on a top level assembly. Kept folder hierarchy. Included linked files. Included referenced files. All OK so far.
Then opened the assembly in the “Pack and go” folder I created to put it, and it cannot find all the content center parts, such as the ASME eccentric reducer and M24 bolt – see attached i.e. I had to resolve the links. I know they came over with the pack and go as they are in the “Libraries” folder.

On a couple assy's, I am trying to use pack&go to make self-contained versions of them.
Only problem is, the assy file (xxx.iam) and all sub-assy files are still linked to the component files in the original location even though the component files were copied to the new location with the P&G command
The whole point in this feature is to make self sufficient copies of something that don't depend on the original data.
This shows the settings I am using It is finding all the files ok. It just doesn't change the relationships on the new iam files. I could manually copy them and do the same thing this feature is doing.
Is there some hidden checkbox I need to find ? Note, I also tried once with "Include linked files" unchecked and got the same result.

My company has many divisions. One division developed a VB.net program to automate some designs. They asked me to try it out and it wiped out all references to iLogic in Inventor. The panel is missing in the manage tab, and when I right click to select panels it does not appear in the list. I keep the iLogic browser open at all times and it is gone too.
I tried doing a repair and a re-install and neither has worked. My next step is to uninstall and re-install.
Is there another way to get the iLogic features back in case I have to test something else?

I am working on a gearbox design and would like the housing to automatically update several dimensions if the shaft size, length, or position changes. I am not having much success. I can create the component in the assembly, and project geometry to create the initial model without a problem. However, the modeled features are not updating when the referenced components change.

We've written an Inventor AddIn that creates a ClientFeature in a part document using one or more NonParametricBaseFeature objects that get force-fed with the geometry we compute (through a TransientBRep object). The result of this is one solid. So far, this works well enough.
However, we've recently encountered a problem with drawings based on part documents like that: Dimensions (measures) added to the drawing get deleted when the NonParametricBaseFeature gets replaced by a new one, even if the two have the same topology or are, in fact, geometrically identical. I assume this is because the new feature has no relation to the original one and there is basically no way the drawing can know what geometry the dimension is referring to. So far, we assumed the references to geometry in a part document would be something like Solid(0).Face(0).Edge(0) etc, but this doesn't seem to be the case. Otherwise, replacing the feature with a new one that is identical would not destroy these references.
I would like to achieve the following: Through the use of ModelingEvents.OnClientFeatureDoubleClick our ClientFeature gets replaced by an updated version and all drawings referencing this feature get updated accordingly with all dimensions intact, as long as the changes only affect geometry and the topology stays the same.
PS: Currently we're working with Inventor 2013 and 2014, using the .NET API in C#.

If an assembly contains unresolved file references, when I try to open it Inventor allows me to try and resolve this with the Resolve Link dialog. But if I choose to skip all for whatever reason, once I've opened the assembly there's no easy way for me to see which sub-assembly/assemblies contain the missing reference. I have to expand folders, patterns, assemblies, etc. until I find the one with the little question mark next to it. I prefer to work with unresolved links in this way sometimes because it just makes more sense working with the model than a bunch of file paths and file names in the Resolve Link dialog. But it's nearly impossible with large assemblies where the unresolved links may be burried deep.
Is there a way to list or somehow see which assemblies contain the unresolved links once I've already opened an assembly?

I was wondering is there is a way to select an Inventor part file and see which assembly file or files that is is currently used in ? It would be extremely useful to be able to see a list of all the assembly files which are using one particular part so when modifying the part you would know which assemblies would change.

I am looking to batch convert my IDWs to AutoCad DWGs without having to go through and manually open each file and save as etc. Right now I am using the export files task to do this. I have saved an *.ini file with all the settings I want and successfully create the task. After running the task it fails to convert all the files giving me an error message that says "File has unresolved references". This shouldn't be the case though because the IDW's open and reference the part/assembly files fine.

Is there a way to use iLogic to replicate the old-school method of replacing drawing references? (ie, where you'd temporarily rename the originally referenced file, open the drawing, and then point it to the new file after Inventor says it can't find the original)
Longer version:
I have an iLogic configurator that manipulates skeletal models, copies them out as new files, and swaps them into template drawings. The original skeletal model can be configured in several different ways (different features, surfaces, etc), so I have several template drawings set up for each model depending on the configuration.
The problem that I'm encountering involves the order in which the drawing is loaded and then has its references replaced. When first opened, the drawing loads the original skeletal model which doesn't have all the geometry of the "new" model for which the particular template drawing was intended. This makes most of my section and detail view constraints go belly-up. After subsequently replacing the model references with the "new" model with the correct geometry, the section and detail view constraints fail to resolve themselves, and my once-perfect detail drawing is ruined.
If I instead force the drawing to open with the new model from the git-go (via the workaround discussed above), everything loads perfectly. However, I haven't yet found a way to handle this automatically with iLogic.
FWIW, I am currently using the following code in a subroutine:
DESTINATIONDOC=ThisApplication.DOCUMENTS.Open(TemplateDrawing, False)
DESTINATIONDOC.SAVEAS(filePath&Left(PN,6)&".idw", False)
DimSTRNEWREFNAMEAsString
DimOREFFILEAsFILEDESCRIPTOR
[Code]....

I am trying to get AutoCAD LT 2002 working in Windows 7. I did searching on these boards and from what I read the solution is to install the AutoCAD LT 2002 service pack (upgrading AutoCAD to verison 44) and then instal the gedit 3 compatibility patch (upgrading it from verison 44 to 47.
The problem I have is that when I run the service pack installation program (K030ltss1_K044_aclt_unl.exe) I get a message that my installation is already up to date. However when I check the version in autoCAd itself it says that it's still at version 30.

Since my AutoCAD crashes when exiting 95% of the time I thought I would install service pack 1.1. I have the 64 bit version of Autodesk Product Design Suite Premium 2013 which includes AutoCAD, AutoCAD Mechanical and AutoCAD Electrical. It is a Windows 7 HP XW series workstation.
Everytime I try to install the service pack it does not install, and a dialog box pops up stating "The service pack could not be installed because the expected Autodesk product could not be located on your computer." To be certain I tried both the 64 bit and 32 bit service pack. What may be causing this? Is this possibly caused by the fact that in Autodesk Product Design Suite Premium, AutoCAD is kind of a burried inside AutoCAD Mechanical, somewhat like a sub-program of AutoCAD Mechanical.

I was rolling out 2013 in one of our offices during the brief time SP1 was available. I went ahead and included SP1 in the office's network deployment (using the append option) and installed on all the machines in that office. Now that SP1 has proven to to be a problem, is there any way to uninstall the SP without having to do a complete uninstall and reinstall at each machine? Tried checking thru control panel (with and without "show updates" turned on), but the SP does not appear in the list to uninstall separately.
