AutoCAD Inventor :: Making Planes Visible In Library Parts
Nov 8, 2011
I'm assembling parts and one of the parts is in my Inventor Library. When I try to make a plane visible it won't let me. I can constrain to the plane , I just can't make it visible.
I am working on an assembly that is designed around a box (bounding box) that could change size. I modeled the bounding box and placed it in a new assembly file. All other parts have been created within the assembly by referencing that bounding box with starting work plane and project geometry.
The problem comes in when I change the bounding box dimensions. The work planes for each additional part, which were defined by the faces of the bounding box, do not move when the sides move. Also, my projected geometry is not updating correctly. This is a simple box, with all 90° corners. So, all associated parts (at this point) are just rectangles.
We are just in the process of upgrading to Inventor 2013. While migrating our iParts, the origin work planes from the part part suddenly appear in some of the children. In the browser they show up under the iPart parent entry and will have names such as "YZ Plane_1". The visibility of all of the origin work features in the parent are turned off. In the children I can right click on these work planes but there is no option to turn off their visibility. And of course I can't even turn off general categories of object visibility in the children because that function is greyed out.
Is this behavior normal/new in IV 2013? Is there anyway I can turn off these origin planes in the iPart children?
In my assembly I've set up angle constraints between 2 Plane's of 2 parts (min: 40 deg max: 160 deg). If I move the parts slowly the angle constraints holds but if I swing it hard sometimes it flips and gets out of the angle constraint.
Is there a way using ilogic, that when you select/highlight a part within an assembly and run the code that it will turn on the Origin planes only and also turn turn them off ?
I'm working on a small Assy (25 parts). When I open one of the parts from this Assy and work on it then go back to the Assy many parts are not visible. The update button is usually off so I can't use it.
This started only about 2-3 weeks ago - in every assy. I changed the nvidia driver but didn't work.
Inventor pro 2012 Win 7 Pro. sp1 64 bit Intel Core I7-2600 CPU Ram - 8GB Quadro 2000 D Nvidia 275.89 (tested nvidia 296.70 with no luck)
in my assembly part visibility is controlled by a Ilogic rule which selects an Iassembly. This assembly is a parametric model controlled by excel. The visible parts have to be exported to dxf.
Everything is working (iterating through parts, export sheet metal to dxf), but how can I check whether a part is visible within the assembly?
I'm building a platform and have sheet metal on top of a tube frame. When I'm zoomed up closely I only see the sheet metal surface. But when I zoom out further some of the tubes start becoming visible through the sheet metal. This happens in just about every assembly. Parts behind other parts start becoming visible when zooming out far enough.
I have a large assembly that I have been working with for about a month . I recently went in and changed some information and it seems that my work plane is way out of whack! How to get it back down to size. this makes it real difficult to use my space navigator because the center of gravity is off bigtime too. I also would like to know how to make all parts and features visible, is there a button somewhere?
Is there a way to make parts invisible directly independent to the selection you made (selection can contain visible, invisible or both parts)?
Most of the time, i make a selection in the model browser and want to put a list of parts directly invisible. Sometimes i also select already invisble parts.
Now what inventor wants to do is make them all first visible before i can make them invisible. As far as i know, there is no other option to do this.
Is there maybe a combination with holding shift or something to directly toggle them invisible?
I'm having issues involving hidden lines that should not be hidden lines in the idw environment.
I am using Inventor 2010 suite, 64-bit. I have largish assembly modeled with several sub-assemblies and a few reference assemblies. Some of the reference models are shrinkwraps from other large assemblies (surface type shrinkwrap, link broken), and other reference models are acutal assemblies that I am unable to shrinkwrap because I need the positional reps that they provide.
When I place my parent assembly, with all the normal and reference models included, on an idw, large portions of the reference models do not show up. If I change my line style to show hidden lines, the missing parts show up. At first, I thought that it may be because the reference parts in question were not originally in the view due to the reference data margin, so I started a new sheet and set the margin large enough to show the entire machine, as well as the state of Michigan, before I set the base view, but I still don't get those parts unless I enable hidden lines.
Even at that, Inventor is not behaving consistently. Some of the parts that won't show unless hidden lines enabled are fabricated parts that I or a co-worker modeled, some of the parts were imported from SAT, STEP and IGES files, and some of them are shrinkwrap parts. On top of that, some of the parts will show up normal (without hidden lines shown) if I change the part's BOM structure from reference to normal, while others still will not show unless hidden lines are enabled, regardless of the BOM structure. Keep in mind, none of these parts are hidden behind anything in the model, even with everything visible in my design view rep, so what's causing Inventor to think these parts are hidden.

I have installed the service pack, but I am still having trouble getting my structural steel shapes to mirror correctly. The green button is not an option for these parts, only the yellow and grey. I can, however, mirror everything else properly. How do I get these parts to mirror correctly?
I've created a folder on our server that contains commonly used parts by several users. My thought was that by referencing this folder as library in their projects, they wouldn't be able to change the parts. I could also build assemblies referencing these common parts so they wouldn't have to be copied into each project folder...
During the save option in their assemblies, the parts show up as NO (in a library), but this can be bypassed by "YES TO ALL".Is this not the right process for setting up a custom part library? Also, the users are experiencing some lag issues... Could this be the reason?
How do I get the library raw material to default the units to be “QTY, not length”? So I don’t have to open every part I bring in to an assy and update it for my BOM?
I have created a custom library (custom content center), and that went fine. All I done was copy a family of RHS from the desktop content center into my custom content library. I then created a small test assembly with frame generator to see if I could use my custom library. It worked fine BUT when I place it into a drawing and create the parts list, the parts list shows all the info in an order that is no use to me. (see attached *SNIP A*)
What I would like is that when I use frame generator along with my custom library, then take it into a drawing, the parts list needs to look like the attached file (see attached *SNIP B*).
So really, I want the "Unit QTY" to vanish, I want the "QTY" to show the Quantity of that part within the assembly, I want the "stock Number" to vanish and I want the description to show the size of the member (what the "stock number" currently shows) along with the length of the member.
Now I know I can edit all this for each part within the parts list BUT I need the parts list to show this info EVERY time AND automatically.
Since autodesk developers didn't think of the fact that somebody might want to change the material of the bolt or hollow sections when it get's saved in the library, is there any way of changing the default saving path of the content center generated parts? These parts are getting saved in the library folder at the moment so Inventor doesn't allow me to change their material.
I need to make two parts act solid. That is, that they need to slide and react as if they were real instead of just going through eachother. In the assembly included, the "rotator" needs to rotate as it is pulled through the "rifled column (2)". The other constraints in the assembly are fine as is, but if I can make these parts react correctly, then the center pole and blade will rotate.
I have drawn a cylinder, with inside diameter 1028mm, wall thickness 5mm. We usually have calculated unfolded part length like this: outside dim. 1038mm - 5mm (wall thickness) = 1032 x 3,14 = 3240mm. Now when i unfold in inventor I get for the length 3215,35mm. It is quite far from the result we usually would have received.
Unfolded part will be rolled to cylinder. What parameters should be overlooked when making unfolded parts for plate rolling?
I have a user having an issue with drawing pipe networks. When they draw the pipe, the structure is not visible. A label shows up, and the structure can be found in the prospector, but is not editable in the plan view (see attached image).
I have a feeling it may be an issue with our pipe networks parts list and pipe catalog location. We have found an issue with our install that defaluts our pipes catalog to our local drives, but our parts list were created using a network drive. Several users have had an issue creating pipe networks when this has happened. However once we switched the pipe catalog to the netowrk drive the issue was resolved.
When we changed the pipe catalog location, it did not resolve the issues.FYI - I have tried the basics (layers on/thawed, pipe structure style layers on/thawed, audit and purge). We are using Civil 3D '09.
We are in the process of setting a naming convention for all the various parts we use, and having changed the Inventor library already, the Autocad stations (ver 2011 mechanical) are next. While I won't be the one doing this work, I want to get a jump on it as it's impeding my current work. The problem is, I don't even know where to start looking. We would be starting with the fastener library, changing the standard descriptions to suit our new convention.
1. created a turbine whose blades are made from some planes that I applied thicken offset command. I applied circular pattern to multiply the blade around center point but i get too many planes and i must to make invisible each one. How can i make invisible all planes in the same time.
2. After i make them invisibile i exit from that part but when i start that part again or when i place it in an assembly all planes are visible. What should i do to make them invisible for ever.
My model is up in the top right of the planes. I cannot figure out why my origin planes are oversized like this. I have went through the browser and checked all the parts to see if something is out there, nothing. I have set auto-resize on origin planes and yet these are large.

I just installed inventor. When I begin a part there is no display of the planes, only the corner indicators show up when I hover over a plane. Also, when a part is created, only the edges show up when I hover over them.
recently installed inventor pro 2014 on a school computer for a project we are doing, one problem. when i click 2D sketch nothing happens, so i have no wau to make a sketch.
In a part file is it possible to find the adaptive workplanes used to create extrusion1. And then find if the two workplanes are at an angle with respect to the origin planes.
Have been looking for a while but it seems hard to find information on workplanes
I've created Custom properties, parameters, to get the outside measure of the parts and it works fine until we create and leave activated a work plane outside the part so it measures not until the end of the part but until the plane.
