View 4 RepliesI've copied over some hardware from the CC to our custom library... washers and bolts. How can I change the BOM structure of the parts to Phantom, I really don't want them showing up in parts lists... and I'd prefer not to just shut off the visibility at that level. They are all set to "Purchased"... can this be changed? I tried opening the part and setting the default to Phantom, but since it is a CC part, I get an error message.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have installed the service pack, but I am still having trouble getting my structural steel shapes to mirror correctly. The green button is not an option for these parts, only the yellow and grey. I can, however, mirror everything else properly. How do I get these parts to mirror correctly?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've created a folder on our server that contains commonly used parts by several users. My thought was that by referencing this folder as library in their projects, they wouldn't be able to change the parts. I could also build assemblies referencing these common parts so they wouldn't have to be copied into each project folder...
During the save option in their assemblies, the parts show up as NO (in a library), but this can be bypassed by "YES TO ALL".Is this not the right process for setting up a custom part library? Also, the users are experiencing some lag issues... Could this be the reason?
How do I get the library raw material to default the units to be “QTY, not length”? So I don’t have to open every part I bring in to an assy and update it for my BOM?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have created a custom library (custom content center), and that went fine. All I done was copy a family of RHS from the desktop content center into my custom content library. I then created a small test assembly with frame generator to see if I could use my custom library. It worked fine BUT when I place it into a drawing and create the parts list, the parts list shows all the info in an order that is no use to me. (see attached *SNIP A*)
What I would like is that when I use frame generator along with my custom library, then take it into a drawing, the parts list needs to look like the attached file (see attached *SNIP B*).
So really, I want the "Unit QTY" to vanish, I want the "QTY" to show the Quantity of that part within the assembly, I want the "stock Number" to vanish and I want the description to show the size of the member (what the "stock number" currently shows) along with the length of the member.
Now I know I can edit all this for each part within the parts list BUT I need the parts list to show this info EVERY time AND automatically.
Since autodesk developers didn't think of the fact that somebody might want to change the material of the bolt or hollow sections when it get's saved in the library, is there any way of changing the default saving path of the content center generated parts? These parts are getting saved in the library folder at the moment so Inventor doesn't allow me to change their material.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using rules to control a part that I made. This part is available in steel and wood.
But steel = normal and wood is something we have to buy.
I would like to adjust my rule so that my material choice will effect the "Default BOM Structure"
I just can't find the right "code" to start with.
I'm assembling parts and one of the parts is in my Inventor Library. When I try to make a plane visible it won't let me. I can constrain to the plane , I just can't make it visible.

I created a couple of Unistrut structural member and published them to the CC.
Once they were in the CC I setup the proper code allowing these members when placed in an assembly to show up as shown in the parts list.
Now sometimes when the member is an odd length it will show up with the decimal places in the part number (i.e. P1001--46.621) This is fine when it comes to the part number showing up as a decimal. In the description we are now wanting to show this in fractional form such that 46.621 in the part number shows up as 46-5/8 in the description.
When I edit the family table for these members, specifically the columns that house this coding, I am not seeing anywhere on how to change this. Does this can be done and if so what the coding is to accomplish this? Without changing the global units of the drawing?

In a IPartFactory is it possible to change the BOM Default structure per IPartMember?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a wall of frames, if you will, and some frames within this wall are different sizes. When doing the BOM, I want to be able to combine anything that has the same stock number as well as the same cut length. The only way I have thought to do this so far is to cycle through each stock number and if the cut length is the same, I override the quantity of one and change the BOM Structure of the other to "Reference".
How can I change the BOM Structure to reference without selecting the part or going through the BOM Editor? Is there some VBA code I could utilize? I am striking out by solely using iLogic.
How do I create an Inventor part with a cost that will update according to the part dimensions changing. For example, we design products using aluminum extrusions and our cost is determined by foot length. How can I create the extrusion part to have a per foot cost that will dynamically update when I change the parts length for an assembly? It seems to me to be a fundamental need for many industries.
I will happily take any links to information that will explain this process. I cannot find anything online that clearly explains the process of creating parts with costs and variables.
Having issues with data shortcutting custom built structure parts? I built a very simple part that has no dimensions and is for plan appearane only (it is a just a rip rap outfall). The part seems to work perfectly in my design file, appearing exactly as I desired with automatic labeling. However, when I data shortcut the pipe network into the plan presentation file, all default pipes and structures are brought in except for the custom built rip rap outfall.
I have tried to delete and reload the data shortcut, changed the part properties, and made sure the parts lists and styles are the same in both drawing files. If I swap the custom part out (in the design file) for a default part, the default part is suddenly displayed in my plan presentation file after synchronizing. It is as if the data shortcut doesn't recognize the custom part, even though it is in the network parts list?

If I need to change the material of all parts in an assembly I find it convenient to do this in the BOM. In the 'parts only' view I add the material column, change the first one and just drag it down like in Excel.
There are however some parts where the material is greyed-out (see attached image) and I cannot change them in to something else. I already traced this to parts which are present in multiple different sub-assemblies. I guess that's also the reason for the blueish/red icon instead of a normal part icon.
If I open one of the sub-assemblies the part is fine and I can change the material.

For all custom libraries I can create file names as I want except profile libraries.
The profile library create file name using Family Name + Stock Number and I did not find the
way to change it. I cannot get rid of that Stock Number in family name in this and other profile libraries. I wish I can use Part Number instead of Stock number in naming as more informative.
To change the file naming I do the following:
Manage - Editor - chose Library - chose family - Family Table - File Naming -
than chose required parameters to be shown as file name (for instance I have
{PARTNUMBER}), than in Map to Inventor Property: - Member.Display.Name
than OK - Refresh - Done.
All custom libraries obeys the file name changing EXCEPT the profile library.

I have two parts, one uses some parameters from another one by link.
Now I have copied both and need to update ties between copies since a copy still has a link to original part.
Seems like there is no possible to just change or edit a link from one part to another in Parameters window.
Instead to update a new link I should clean all borrowed parameters in all sketches, delete the folder, make new link and set all parameters back. is it possible to change or edit the link in some easy way?
Any macro to do it automatically....
i still have the change occurrence layer based on material macro but cant seem to find the change layer based on part...
yes we are still using autocad in conjunction with inventor, and on a side note have been quite enjoying the new parameters, dynamic blocks, easy scripts and customization features in autocad.
I wish I can open my general assembly BOM and set the proper Materials to my all my parts after migration from 2012 release.
But I cannot change Material for the some custom part in the assembly BOM in the Parts Only tab. Parts refusing to change a Material have special symbol and I guess it means “promoted assembly” – no info regarding these symbols.
I can change any Material in Structured and Model Data tabs but it is extremely inconvenient for the big assembly.
[URL]....
The questions is: Why those promoted assemblies have inaccessible Material in the Parts Only tab?
I have similar subassemblies built in similar way as you can see fro video, but one is treated as promoted assembly and other as promoted part, the question is what possible difference between those is?
I am looking for a rule that will search assembly down all levels and find .ipts with the material of plywood and when found change all plywoods to color Clear - Light.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to change an iProperty, specifically the iProperties->Project->Project field for multiple parts automatically.
I use the iLogic Design Copy Tool to copy over an entire project, and for the most part the only changes is the project number.
I didn't see a way to change this in the Design Copy Tool, possibly there is some other tools that can do this that I don't know about. But if not, I am assuming a small script (VBA??) would be required to do this? whether it is in Inventor or just an outside program to carry out this change.
I found this old thread, but it seems that people just found another way to do this?

My workflow would follow something like this:
-Use iLogic Design Copy Tool to copy over project to new folder
-Open up full assembly
-Run rule or script to update all parts in assembly with new Project iProperty
-Save
-update the drawings as I need, (they will all need to be reviewed as some parts will be modified anyways)

Below are 2 rules that run in succession to create and save a parts list from a base view in a drawing.
I am now trying to set the parts list style to a custom style, ideally while creating the list.
Also, I have to manually go into the list to turn off visibility of certain items (based on material), does I can do this with Ilogic? I ask because these steps precede a rule that automates placing base views of all parts in the parts list. If I could get the style and visibility right, I could automate the entire process.
Looking for changing such a style with ilogic?

I have an assembly with multiple parts.
I wish to change the colour (how they're displayed) of a few of them.
When i right click on the part, i can select iProperties>Occurrence>Appearance
When i control + select multiple items, then right click, the Appearance tab is greyed out.
Not a huge problem at the moment, but in future, I may wish to make 30 + different parts a different colour and would like to do it in one step.
I need an ilogic rule to autmoatically change the style of the parts list in a drawing file. The parts list style already exist in the drawing.

Sketch:
Enable Heads-up Display
Edit Dimension when created
Look at sketch...on...creation

No new sketch goes to x-y plane
This may happen after when I open parts from Inventor 2011 (maybe 2010) into 2012, then create a new part. I would expect the 2012 App Options to be the master, so I don't know why a legacy part would be allowed to change those settings.

I am using this code placed in the .ipt file to change Sheet Metal material
If Material_SM=1 TheniProperties.Material="Steel"SheetMetal.SetActiveStyle("RB_Mild Steel")ElseiProperties.Material="AISI316"SheetMetal.SetActiveStyle("RB_Stainless")End If
It works fine presuming code placed in every .ipt file to be ruled.
Is it possible to modify code in a way so when it placed in top assebly it runs through entire assembly finds all Sheet Metal parts and applys Material prpperties/Sheet metal style according Material_SM parameter.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe are in the process of setting a naming convention for all the various parts we use, and having changed the Inventor library already, the Autocad stations (ver 2011 mechanical) are next. While I won't be the one doing this work, I want to get a jump on it as it's impeding my current work. The problem is, I don't even know where to start looking. We would be starting with the fastener library, changing the standard descriptions to suit our new convention.
