I am using Inventor 2012.
I created an assembly in Inventor and now I am creating a drawing for it in Inventor. I have a few views placed of the same assembly.
Is there a way to lock one view in the assembly? For example, my assembly consists of a door, I would like to have one view with the door open and another view with the door closed on the same drawing using the same assembly link.
I have created an assembly with multiple views to show the multiple configurations of our products. However, half way down the line I realized I had forgotten to place a component. When I placed the component, I found that it had been placed in all the views automatically. Is there a way to select the views to place the components in or to prevent the component from being placed in any of the custom views except the default view?

I'm having a problem with Inventor 2011 professional on a 64Bit machine. I can make any size assembly with no problem but as soon as I go to make an idw the program crashes and shuts down. It doesn't matter if the base view is one part or 1000 parts as soon as I go to place the view inventor shuts down and I get an error.

Is there a setting to tell Inventor to only make newly inserted/created parts visible in the active view rep.
I am so tired of having to go through all my view reps every time I add a new part to an assembly.
Somehow my IDW location box is got empty while placing the view in Inventor 2012.

I create a drawing of an iPart, while doing so I have the iPart model open in the background. When placing a view on the drawing the active factory member is the default option, I have a bad memory so forget to tell Inventor that actually I would like to use a specific iPart member in this particular drawing view. I then spend a long time laying out and dimensioning the drawing. When complete, I create a second sheet and copy all information from sheet 1 onto sheet 2. I then double click on the main drawing view and change the model state to an alternative factory member. At this point I realise that the drawing on sheet one is based on the active factory member and start swearing.
The result of changing to a different member when the existing drawing is based on the active member is that ALL DIMENSIONS DISSAPEAR FROM THE DRAWING AND HAVE TO BE PAINSTAKINGLY REPLACED. At this point I will usually REDRAW SHEET 1 so that further sheets can be created quickly in the future by selecting an alternative factory member.
can I change the software defaults somewhere in the setup to prevent the 'active factory member' being displayed as an option in the first place?
I've had this issue now for quite a while. Seems to only happen with wires that are made in the Cable & Harness module. And the odd part is that not all wires do this and not all View Rep/Detail views do this.
Regardless of wether I have a wire visible or not in a locked View Rep it still shows up in the Detail View on the .idw. And yes, I have the 'associative' check box checked.
I've unchecked the check box, nothing. Rechecked the box, nothing. Updated the views individually, nothing.
How can I scale a view or all views in a sheet thru VB?I searched in the forum but I failed.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I create a "Break" in a view, Inventor glitches. The other views, and even the border, title block, and whatever else is in the drawing, will disappear. The other items reappear if I "Zoom All". Is there an update?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe sheet set manager is an awesome tool (i just started using it a week ago). The problem is, whenever I place a view on my sheet, (by right clicking>place on sheet) and it says "Scale: 1:1 Right-click to change scale", i right click and all i get is:
"Invalid point. Specify insertion point:"
But here's the twist: Sometimes it does work (like 10% of the time) but most of the time it annoyingly doesn't. here are some photos:

like i said, sometimes it works. I do a few rituals (i just invented) before getting it to show this scales list like right clicking rapidly or holding rightclick repeatedly but not rapidly. and "SOMETIMES" it does work. but more often, it doesn't. cadtutor 5.jpg
So I have set camera view in my viewport for a perspective view. This goes okay but when i close my drawing and open it again.The view was changed. I have tried locking my VP, set UCSFOLLOW to 0, display locked=YES as stated on other VP problems in threads. What setting am i missing?

I want a line elevation view from file A (with shadows if possible) to insert into another file (B) sheet (so it shows another option variant without the complexity of setting up phases to show that option in file B. I can insert from file a render - managed that successfully but I dont want full renders as the the recipient (a planning authority) will plot from a pdf non-colour.
Is there any way of rendering so that the result is mostly line with a bit of half tone? I do elevations within a project this way by setting up a 3D aligned to elevation then sort out what I want shaded / colour / line by graphic overrrides.
I am trying to make section views from the parent view. I need to make several section view, but there is not enough room on one sheet for all of them. Is there a way to move or copy the section views to different sheets and keep the connection for when chages are made all views will update?

I have several different views xreffed into a single view, should'nt they all share the base construct? i.e. If I want to overlay the lighting plan, HVAC plan and my reflected ceiling plan- they should share the first floor construct. Instead each one brings in the same base construct and then when you overlay them, the walls interfere and you get wall errors.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIf Inventor is on the screen when the pc locks (win+L) Inventor will not display properly after unocking the pc. Moving the mouse around will change what is highlighted in the feature tree and things like that, but I cannot at all see the actual object I am working on. Changing from one open component to another does not work. I have to restart each time this happens. I have updated both Inventor and my display drivers to a supported version.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI would like to have two different layouts of my site plan. One is existing and does not show any of the new construction. The other is a complete view of the project. Is there a way to keep the existing site plan dependent while turning off the new construction to show only the previous + demo? If I set up a view template I cannot alter in the dependent view to make the changes that I want as options are greyed out. Is the only way to do this to create them as independent views?

So I'd like to edit my Thread.XLS file to include a tab for this, so I could choose the internal thread and it would create a tapped hole to a certain depth. For example, a 3/8"-16 insert has a 9/16"-12 external thread and needs a tap drill diameter of 0.516, 0.57" deep. The 9/16"-12 thread needs to be 0.56" deep by the chart.
My question is, how do I control the depths within the spreadsheet? I'm assuming that I can't just add a column and call it "tap depth" and "drill depth" and have it be good. Is there some "teach" process to tell Inventor what column represents what kind of feature?
i want to create a schedule that will show which views are visible within a Revit 2012-2013 plan view. Any way to do this or a work around?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I open any of my cdr files, the view manager opens over 400 views. It takes quite a while to open any file. If I take the time to delete all of the views after opening the file, (it seems that they have to be deleted 1 by 1) and I resave the file, the views stay deleted. The ironic thing is that I have never even used the view manager, or saved any views.

Problem:
When placing an Ipart into a project Assembly it will make a copy of that variant and place it in the same map as the Ipart.
So when variant B of Ipart A is selected it will make a copy of variant B in the same folder where Ipart A is located.
Question:
Is it possible to make a “save as” option or another similar manner to save those copies of variant B in a project map of a project assembly?
Instead of saving all the Ipart variants to a single folder. So each time a new project is started they have all the parts in the same folder.
Reason:
I am making a local library for parts that are used for repairs. These parts have many variants and some times need to be customized for a repair.
The current system keeps polluting itself causing the users to loose their parts and accidentally delete the original parts etc.
I contacted Autodesk support and theyrecommended to post this question on this forum. They did mentioned that vba programming could achieve this. I have no knowledge of this type of programming.
How do I place a hole on a circular part at a specified distance from the edge. This works on other parts with straight edges, but there is no option to do so on a circle.??

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am experiencing a crash when I try and place an ipart (any of them) into a new drawing. The open file box works but when the base view is placed in the drawing it has an unexpected problem and crashes.
Is this a documented problem , and a hotfix is forthcoming or is this just me and something local to my installation. Normally my install is very stable.
How to place a label on a harness.
i have created a label in library, modified and saved. WHERE IS THE BUTTON TO INSERT????
Maybe i have this mixed up. Are we talking about a virtual label or a real label (textbox describing label)?
I would like to add a 1-12" plastic covered adhesive label at each connector to identify the connector. Usually we place a text box with an identifier and a table with the label data on the drawing.
This is what i am trying to do. Is this not right? Is this the nailboard label that inventor is talking about or am i out to lunch?

I am trying to create a second base view (using Layout/Create View/Base from model space). The problem is, I need it to be rotated from the original base view. However, when I rotate the part in model space, ALL of my views change.
So I guess my question is, how do I create multiple views of the same part that are seperate from the other base views?
i have views lets say 3 views on a sheet but in the list of views theres mores that appears maybe i inserted the extra views that are showing but i deleted them to put them on another sheet
the problem is they show up in the list of both sheet and i can't delete them from the list of the sheet that they were before
We are developing a macro for steel structures and we know about the program to insert or place a content center component in assembly through VBA programming. If there are provisions for changing the object type and changing length in that importing process it will be very useful.
