If I use this line from within an IDW:
ModelName = IO.Path.GetFileName(ThisDrawing.ModelDocument.FullFileName)
it will simply return the file name of the corresponding IPT.
I want to be able return the path for the IPT from within the IDW as well.

AutoCAD Inventor :: New File Icon Versus Pull Down
Mar 1, 2013Something I'd like to see fixed (or find out how) is when using the start New File icon, if you select the icon itself, you are directed to the templates folder of the active project, but if you select the "Pull Down" arror next to the icon, you are taken to the Inventor Standard default templates which are typically not used.
I see numerous users unknowingly selecting those default templates and not noticing until they've started entering dims, etc. They get very upset at having to make sure they select the icon and question as to why it would be different.
Same deal if one is to select the Inventor Icon in the far left upper corner (this is more common than the users selecting the pull down) and then select "New", again, they are shuttled to the default templates and not the associated project file templates...why?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Way To Pull Flat Pattern Layout Of Sheet Metal And Convert to NC1 File
Sep 4, 2013Where I work we do a lot of plate and punch holes in beams for rebar. Is there a way to pull the flat patteren layout of sheet metal and convert to an NC1 file. I can export to a DXF but then i must manually go in and make changes to the DXF in order for it to cut right on our plasma and laser tables. As far as punching holes and cutting beams any clues on this either? We were outsourcing our drafting work before but now we are switching over to in house. I have contacted our supplier of plate nesting software and it looks like they sell something but that means another license of it on another computer.

thus far I've Copied and Pasted in In Front ... does copying and pasting it in front bring it outta the mask?
do i need to create a new layer after I've Copied it and then Paste it on the new layer?
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Survey Database And Data Shortcut Path
Feb 15, 2013How do you move a survey database and data shortcuts? Without going into details, sometimes it is necessary to copy portion of projects as new projects. The survey database along with the drawings our surface, points, linework, etc. need to reference the new directory. I can set the survey database folder location to the new path but am not certain the information in the dwg is point to the correct location.
The same essentially applies to the data shortcuts. I'm having trouble getting this to work. With LD we were able to copy the project and resuscitate the drawing(s). I tried to use Data Shortcut Editor with the Saveas. I then attempted to rename the dwg's and path the new location and name but receive an error of Invalid source file. Correct the path or press Esc..

Oct 10, 2012I have a standard install of Inventor 2012 SP2, but for some reason it cant seem to find the images for IBL effects. See attached Screen shot, when I go to select an item there is nothing there.
I have found the files in the "c:userspublicautodeskenviroments" folder but why Inventor cant see them?I have looked in "App options" in the "file" tab and in the project file and I cant see any pathing options that relate to the enviroments?
The default images for textures and bumpmaps are all found OK just not the IBL files? How I can set the path to these enviroment images?

May 30, 2013I am trying to find a way to have iLogic code that looks at a part with only one extrusion, such as bar stock or angle stock and automatically export the length to iProperties. As per the request of the other engineers however, this code cannot be based on a common renamed parameter. Also, since no one draws things the same exact way, it can't be based off of a common dimension parameter either. At least not in terms of d0,d1..etc.
Is there such thing as a code similar to variable=standard.extrusionextentslength that I can imbed within an if then that would pull this information from the model?

AutoCAD Inventor :: 2013 Materials Refresh Styles / Will Not Pull In Updates
Mar 17, 2013in versions of inventor prior to 2013 we were able to quickly and easily refresh a part styles, and thereby obtain the master information for materials, colours and any other style.
i find that now, with the new system of managing materials and appearances that if i need to update a part to reflect the material assests that reside in my materials and appearance library that i have to:
1. open the part, then set the part material to a material other than that i wish to update, then
2. delete the local/ document asset of the material i wish to update, then,
3. assign the material from my material library to the part (to get the library assets to come through to the part).
it seems ridiculous that we have to delete local materials or colours prior to obtaining an updated material or appearance to get the new data into the part.
(the refresh styles command actually appears to be calling in the updates however the updates seem to treat the document assets as the most important. even when managing materials and appearances, the local/document asset seems to take priority over any library asset. again this is different to pre 2013, and is frustratingly slow to work around. all that used to happen in 2012 and prior is we would get a warning that the local style would be overwritten with updated style data = very quick and easy
AutoCAD Inventor :: Way To Pull Constraint Into Main Edit Window For Direct Editing?
Sep 24, 2011I am playing with a design in simulation where the balance is effected by gravity. I have a part at a set angle to start off so a constraint is place and set to this angle,then in simulation I suppress the angle prior to starting the simulation to see what happens. Then I unsuppress the angle then edit it to adjust the simulation to a new angle I then resupress the angle to free it up and run the simulation again.
This can go on a few times until the angle is found in the simulation.The problem I have is it takes ages to do this. Basically it seems in simulation the tree is always collapsed and I want it expanded, how ever after each change the tree collapses?
Is there a way to have the tree always expanded so I can quickly find and adjust my constraint? Or even better is there a way to pull the constraint into the main edit window for direct editing?
It would be good if a small bow / window could be opened with the ability to add a setting/constraignt that needs constant updating.

Nov 17, 2011I am using Autodesk 3D Map 2012 Enterprise. I used Infrastructure Administrator 2012 to create a File based schema with the required tables and domains. This has created a DWT file and my understanding is if i create a DWG file using this DWT as the template then i should be able to create the features with the attribute details stored in SQLLite. I am also not very clear whether this SQLLite would be embedded within the DWG.
I have an Utility network asset map of a city with OSMM background and Address Layer 2 in UK which i want to transfer to a DWG file created in this template. The source data is a ESRI filegeodatabase format with data held in 30+ featureclasses. I can convert the featureclasses into SHP files.
a)My problem is how can i import the contents of the shapefile into a DWG file created using the template defined using Infrastructure Administrator 2012 above and indicate that the attribute should go to SQLLite or is it something implicitly handled ?
b) It leaves me wondering as why Autodesk is not stressing on the adoption of SDF which is projected as a DWG with relational datatables? What is the intended use of SDF?

Oct 16, 2012How do I "unset" a Survey Database from a file. I created a new file and set a working folder to import survey data. Now when I go to File>New to create an unrelated file, the Survey Database and related info is shown in the Toolspace>Survey tab. I don't want this in the file, how do I get rid of it without deleting any info for the previous drawing?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Survey Database Link With Imported File?
Apr 13, 2012I am looking into using the Survey Database for the first time and noticed it linked back to the imported file from which the points came. However, my question is when the points are adjusted within the AutoCAD file is there a way for this adjustment to link back into the imported point file. I am trying not to have a situation where the data is different between the imported file and the autocad file.
