I'm trying to apply a Knurled Face appearance to a bar the color will change from the current yellow to a polished steel but either the diamond patter is to fine or not there at all. I've be into the Appearance setting moved the sliders back and forward the preview image changes but NOT the actual appearance on the bar itself.

I have a weldment which in the machining process a part of weld bead as well as a portion of one of the components is machined down (spot faced) and I need to change the appearance of those face to polished, but it doesn't let me do that?
View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently I have Installed Autodesk Inventor Proffessional 2013 SP 1.1 Update 2 on few new systems, it is not showing correct Material Appearance (Customised Material). I observed that it is not browsing images from correct folder location.
Following image showing error.
Older systms showing correct appearnace and it takes picture from following location shown in image.
I checked Application Options>File>Design Data (Styles, etc.) for new systems showing correct folder location i.e. From User>Public Documents.

I have created Customized Materials in Inventor 2013.When I try to apply customized material to part it is showing different result for Drop Down list and for Material Browser.
1. Picture showing appearance of part for Wood Pine from Material Browser.
2. Same Material I tried from drop down list showing following result (Customized library has checked it is in active form)
I use the split face tool on my ipt. When i create a idw of this part I want to show the split face line in the drawing. When I initially place the view the line is shown, however when the place view command is finished the line is not shown.
I see nothing obvious in the place view dialog box controlling the visibility of this line............how do i show this line in the view?

There is any option to merge bottom face of pad eye and pipe curved face... Something like
1. Extrude face to a surface or
2. like notch option available in frame generator ?
N:B - pad eye is made by extrusion and pipe made by frame generator.
All I need to do is merge a circular face to a flat face, so both faces become one continuous face. Is this possible at all?
I have a attached a screenshot to show what I mean. Face 1 needs to be merged with face 2. This is so if I constrain anything to that face it will constrain to the entire face and not either the circular face OR the flat face.
Is it possible to add a Appearance tab to a Ipart table? I am cataloging a set of parts and one part is made with steel but in Gloss - Black and Matte - Black and i'd like to differentiate the 2 without haveing to make 2 seperate Ipart files.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble finding or creating an 'appearance' that actually looks like glass. Each of the appearances in the Inventor library and Autodesk libraries are milky and not very transparent at all. I'd like to find or create a material that is almost 100% clear, but reflects the environment.
The transparency slider scales from 0-100% but the results are more like 0-75%.Inventor Studio looks just as bad.I've got to believe that it's not impossible to do without Showcase or 3DS Max.
I need to do a ray-traced rendering of a smooth black anodized surface.
However when using the "Anodized Black" appearance, I get a speckled surface when using ray trace, and the part looks like galvanized steel.
In Inventor LT, it would be very useful if some of my parts were translucent in appearance. I have changed the "feature appearance" of the extrusion to Polycarbonate Clear" but it's still at the default grey.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI created a host of materials with a certain appearance etc and saved them as a library. When I open my Inventor 2013 this morning I seemed to have lost my appearances. It says my materials are missing the Appearance asset - see attached screenshot.
What is this, and how can I rectify the problem?
I've been attempting to create a sphere with an Earth texture, for which I've made a custom appearance with a flattened picture of earth. Instead of wrapping to the sphere, however, the image is mirrored on both sides of the sphere and extremely distorted. I knew wrapping 2D geometry to a sphere was not strictly possible, but is there no way to pull it off with an image?
If not, would something like this be possible in 3DS max?
How can i have extrusion 3 with the Glass appearance or clear so as to look like Glass ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am clearing an override of a part in a subassembly. I tried to use the clear appearance button but I get message saying Active Design View has no appearance overrides which is not true. You can see in my attachment there clearly is an override from Chrome-Polished in the IPT to Satin- Brushed in the IAM.
There is no "Clear Override" in the Appearance pull down. I think I used to be able to click on color As Part in previous Inventor version but now it's different. The black areas are embossed features representing silkscreened graphics I need to preserve.
I tried to post the files in Inventor/Customer Files NG but the "new message" button was grayed out & not working.
I have an xml file with RAL colors I used befor the new appearance was added in Inventor. Now I want to use ral colors in Inventor 2013 but that I can not manage. how I can add ral colors and also properly be given in my parts.
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust got upgraded to version 2013 by IT. Seeing that AD still can't maintain consistency from vers to vers. This version replaced 'Color Styles" with 'Appearances'. But, not just appearances, you have Document Appearances, the Autodesk Material Libray, the Autodesk Appearance Library, and the Inventor Material Library.
Why would the Material libraries show up when clicking the Appearances button when there is another button right beside it to get to Materials.
I mean, who is really going to use several dozen different types of flooring. And why is some metal in the metal category and some in default Category. And then some is in the metal Type and some in the generic Type. Is there really a need for two fields for organizing 'appearances' ? If this were a graphical design program I couls see some of this but it is a cad program. Seems like a case of trying to tailor one product to too many markets.
To the question. How do I unlock the Autodesk Appearance Library so I can get rid of all the junk I don't need and add some really obvious ones that are not there.
I have a problem when I want to use a cutout.
My purpose is to get a perforated plate but Inventor doesn't show this.
Only the black color is shown and not the holes.
In 2012 (and earlier) you rotated the texture in Style Editor. This was limited vs the new method.
I have parts with lots of faces and need to rotate all the faces at the same time, like 2012.
Also, I need the changes to be updated in all iparts, whereas at the moment the Adjust only seems to affect each one. Again, much less limited, but I need the option to update all at once too.
I have problems with material appearance in the frame generator. I have created a new material 316 stainless steel and assigned a specific colour to it. I have now decided to change that colour but it only changes when I change the material in iProperties of the part. I still get the old colour when I use the frame generator to change the material. The only way to change the colour of my material is thru the appearance tab in the frame generator pop up window.

I want to change the appearance of the view label to look like attached snap shot. Is this possible? I have looked through the inventor settings but cant find any options.
As a possible solution I can always create intelligent symbols which update with the drawing (like the standard view labels) but before I begin creating these I wanted to check if there was any other way?
When you go to the Appearance Browser and go to our custom appearances, some of the thumbnails don't match what the appearance is actually set to. If you open up/edit the appearance it shows the correct appearance, but the thumbnail isn't displayed correctly.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am tryiing to "purge" a local appearance in a part. From the tools>Appearance, I want to delete the Knurled (Coarse), but the delete is greyed out.
I cleared the appearance overrides, but it is still greyed out. Here is a short video of what I have tried.
The reason I am going thru this excersice it to remove the knurl.bmp that shows up in by vault browser... watch the end of the video.
The ribbon layout has changed by itself so that it now displays smaller icons and I have to click on drop down arrows to access sub menus - I had it correct displaying the icons with the sub menus next to them but it seems to have changed.
I have worked through ALL the options available in the ribbons appearance etc. and this doesn't change them.

I have a part (several actually) that I made using the mirror command. I made these in 2012. When I converted to 2013 and set up my new appearance freindly materials, I changed the appearance for my 201 S/S matl to "Stainless Brushed". The first image is of the derived part which is stuck on a "Steel" appearance, the second image is of the base model which is correctly displaying the "Stainless Brushed" appearance. I tried playing around with the appearance overrides and I can't seem to get it to update. My assembly looks like **** with the different appearances.
For chuckles sake I'll also mention that every time "appearance" appears in the above paragraph I typed color first and corrected it.
I was trying to add a new appearance to our libray this morning, got confused and started searching here and ran across an old thread of mine.

I had always thought that these were two seperate things. After I read this, I noticed in my .ipj that the Inventor Materials Library is listed under both Appearance and Materials.
I tried copying the "InventorMaterialLibrary.adsklib" but that did not work when I tried to add it under my materials library in the ipj.... It said "No Materials are available". HOW to go about creating a single library that contains both materials and appearances?
