The problem: I want a circular pattern for rectangular shaped holes, and I don't want the holes to rotate. The circular pattern doesn't have an option to retain the orientation.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to unfold a coil shape to get the flat pattern? When I try to unfold the attached part I get an error message (see attached error_msg.jpg). We have been using AutoPOL to unfold these kind of shapes (which works fine). But since we have a very old version which we really need to upgrade, I was wondering if nowadays Inventor could handle coil unfolds.
If this will not work with the current IV2013 release, will this then be implemented in a future release? Are there any alternatives or should I just go for the AutoPOL upgrade?

How to create a Circular Pattern of the Solid Object by VBA. I tried it by calculation Polar Transformations but was unsuccessful.
Then Rotated the complete Solid Object which changed original location. Is there any way i can Change the Angle and Mirror instead of Making circular pattern.
I do not use the sheet metal tools in IV all that often so I fully expect that I have done something completely wrong.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am working on a project that involves a screw conveyer(auger) with a 3" od, 1.5"/flight and a 0.800" ctr shaft. I modeled it without any difficulty using the "helix" function in a 3-d sketch & then swept a rectal around that path. The problem is, I need paper templates to layout the pattern on the steel. In the past I have made use of the "flat pattern" feature to print paper templates for tube notching and such, but that function prompts me with an error message "no surface to flatten" Attached is the full screw(augShaft9in.ipt), a single flight and 2/3 of a flight(i dont think a full flight will flatten & not overlap). Need to getting these patterns printed.

Create a new 3D Sketch. Start the Equation Curve command.
Here are equations that I use to create helical curves. Many other variations exist.
Cartesian coordinates:

y(t) = radius * cos(360 * num_turns * t)

When you sweep a profile along a helical path, use the plane normal sweep (instead of perpendicular sweep) to orient profiles suitable for coil or spring. In the example below, the sweep path is a constant radius, variable pitch helix.
I am working on Sweeping three helix profiles around a cylinder to create a screw thread. When I sweep the profile, Inventor gives me the error messages:
"The attempted operation would create a self-intersecting surfaces. Try with different inputs".
or
"The attempted operation did not produce meaningful intersection edges from the face-face intersection. Try with different inputs".
However, this is exactly what I need to create the helix profile I require and eventually increase the size of the Extrusion Sweep profile to 80mm. When I increase the sweep profile to 80mm I get the same error message about the self intersecting surfaces.

I have generated a gear set using inventor. Now I would like to 3d print the gears. I have uesd the export tooth shape to get the true tooth profile. now I am attempting to use the coil feature to generate the helical tooth. The problem im running into is in the coil tool I can only give it a Revolution and height dimension. The hight is the width of the gear, but I am having a problem converting the helix angle to the "Revolution" perameter. I have read other posts and they say that it is Helix angle / 360. I have tried that and then compared it to the original gear generated by inventor and it is not even close. I need to do this on in internal gear and match it to an external gear.

One of the objects in my scene is not rendering correctly. It is a side panel grating with holes in it. In the viewport it looks fine, but once I render it only some of the holes display. I created the front grating with the same method and it renders every hole just fine.

I'm creating a logo that consists of the word DIFFERENT in text and a shape, a dot (an ellipse) that I want to appear above the I and be vertically aligned with I.
How can I do this?The problem is that I can't see how to identify the point in the text - the centre of the I - to act as the target. I can't seem to get any of the Snap to Object tools to work.
I feel that I should be able to mark a specific point anywhere on a shape or an object and use those points to align.
I suspect that I could achieve the effect that I want by splitting the text characters up into individual objects, than I can align them more obviously but then I set up some other issues with kerning.
How can I make a circular pattern of a single occurence of a rectangular pattern?
A shaft has a rectangular pattern of holes (along its axis) on its surface. I want to pattern the 4th occurence of this hole pattern as a circular pattern? Can I do it in Autodesk. I can not select the a specific occurance of a patterned feature to pattern it again.
As you see in the template photo (the photo was scanned by Microsoft Security Essentials, healthy) I wanted to extrude my circle, and I made 28 pieces with circular pattern feature; now, do I have to choose all the pieces by one by to be able to choose all?
The sum of the problem: while using the Circular Pattern feature or rectangular pattern feature in Inventor, sometimes I want to extrude (join) or cut the drawings that I made (augmented) with using circular pattern feature, rectangular pattern feature. in this case do I have to choose all the augmented members one by one (for instance I make 42 augmented members), it can take a lot of time.?

I have a circular part on which I have created a linear pattern (using the rectangular pattern feature) of holes, 6 in total listed as 3 ccurrences. if we number the holes 1-6, I would like to make a circular pattern based off holes 2 and 5. I have been unable to figure out how to select the individual "occurrence" related to the hole once in the pattern feature. If I create the circular pattern first and then the linear and try to suppress the others it supresses both holes in the occurrence.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am creating an assembly with my base part being a weldment. I've added other components that mount to my base part. Now I need to add fasteners to the mating components. I have added my first fastener and now want to pattern the said fastener using the "Pattern Component" and by using the "Feature Pattern Select" option and selecting "Associated Feature Pattern". At this point I have already selected the component that I want to pattern and selected the "Associated Feature Pattern" to select my base pattern. The only problem is that I am unable to select the pattern desired.
A note on how my Weldment was constructed -The holes were created in the "machining" step of the weldment, not in the individual part before it was placed in the weldment assembly.
If I move the hole feature and its pattern to the individual part and then place it in the weldment assembly, I can then create an "Associated Feature Pattern" in my assembly file.Why can I NOT create the associated pattern when my hole features are created in the weldment assembly? Or am I missing something?
I have an assembly which I am using as a icopy component. In the assembly I have the adaptive sketch which os used for the icopy function and a part which is adaptive to the sketch. I then have the part pattern itself in the assembly. The problem is the pattern will not update when changes are made unless I edit the pattern. The pattern references parameters from the sketch so that when the sketch changes the pattern should change. It works but the pattern will not update unless i open the pattern to edit it. Is there a vb function which will force the pattern to update when a change is made? I tried the update document vb functions but no change. I will try to get a sample together that is a smaller file size so you can see what I am talking about.

I'm looking to find how many holes there are in a part ( and then what their diameters are). I tried using

but this falls down if a hole feature created more than one hole at the same time.
I have an existing extrustion with holes in it. All in one sketch.
I go to add an off shoot from the existing main body in the sketcher. In that off shoot I add a circle
in the middle of the off shoot to represent a hole. So fa so good, or at least I thought. I exit the sketch mode
and my extrustion looks fine with the exception of the hole is not there. Why? Why doesn't Inventor recognise the
circle sketch as hole geometry like it does in the originally created sketch?
In Solidworks, given this same scenario, would have recogized the circle as a void and thus created a hole.
I ended up deleteing the hole out of the main sketch and doing a seperate hole cut feature. I am sure I am missing something and in the process of learning would like to know if indead I did not do this the correct way.
I am modelling plain Bearing but i have problem getting holes at an angles. I have attached an image for it.
Holes are located on top side of the bearing.
