View 3 RepliesYou can create a variable pitch helix by using the Equation Curve feature introduced in Inventor 2013.
Create a new 3D Sketch. Start the Equation Curve command.
Here are equations that I use to create helical curves. Many other variations exist.
Cartesian coordinates:
x(t) = radius * sin(360 * num_turns * t)
y(t) = radius * cos(360 * num_turns * t)
z(t) = height * t

When you sweep a profile along a helical path, use the plane normal sweep (instead of perpendicular sweep) to orient profiles suitable for coil or spring. In the example below, the sweep path is a constant radius, variable pitch helix.
what ive been trying to do is make a helix that sweeps around a rectangular prism i was able to make it in solid works but i cant find a way to do it in inventor.

I modeled it without any difficulty using the "helix" function in a 3-d sketch & then swept a rectal around that path. The problem is, I need paper templates to layout the pattern on the steel. In the past I have made use of the "flat pattern" feature to print paper templates for tube notching and such, but that function prompts me with an error message "no surface to flatten" Attached is the full screw(augShaft9in.ipt), a single flight and 2/3 of a flight(i dont think a full flight will flatten & not overlap). Need to getting these patterns printed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a handrail section to suit an existing staircase. I have drawn the plan of the handrail out and then created a 3d sketch to plot the height of the handrail relative to the plan.
My plan was then to draw a spline through the points and sweep the handrail profile along the spline to create my model. If this is the right way to create the model or does tried and tested procedure?
So, I we were taught autocad at hour school but not autocad architecture because apparently autocad architecture is too "advanced" for us. so now I need to draw window details (thermally broken aluminum frame window with insulating glass unit) but it is so much work in autocad however I was told that I can just draw a window in autocad architecture and just cut a section and just make a few adjustments to get the window detail.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am working on Sweeping three helix profiles around a cylinder to create a screw thread. When I sweep the profile, Inventor gives me the error messages:
"The attempted operation would create a self-intersecting surfaces. Try with different inputs".
or
"The attempted operation did not produce meaningful intersection edges from the face-face intersection. Try with different inputs".
However, this is exactly what I need to create the helix profile I require and eventually increase the size of the Extrusion Sweep profile to 80mm. When I increase the sweep profile to 80mm I get the same error message about the self intersecting surfaces.
I am working with Autodesk Inventor Professional 2011, 64bit, 8gb RAM, Windows 7, Intel Core i7-2860QM.
I want to put holes on 2 sides of helix shape object. The holes are about 0.125" deep and 0.80" wide and next to each other.Encluded the shape.

I'm having to do this in a presentation file, and I was wondering if it was possible to section one of the parts in the exploded view. To be more specific, I have the majority of my parts spread out around another assembly in the center of the page. I want to get a three quarter section view of the center assembly so the internals are visible. Is this possble from within a presentation file and if so, how can it be done?

I have generated a gear set using inventor. Now I would like to 3d print the gears. I have uesd the export tooth shape to get the true tooth profile. now I am attempting to use the coil feature to generate the helical tooth. The problem im running into is in the coil tool I can only give it a Revolution and height dimension. The hight is the width of the gear, but I am having a problem converting the helix angle to the "Revolution" perameter. I have read other posts and they say that it is Helix angle / 360. I have tried that and then compared it to the original gear generated by inventor and it is not even close. I need to do this on in internal gear and match it to an external gear.

I'm sure 'variable transparency' is not the right way of putting this.
I have an image which has some text in white. However because of the aliasing the text is not 100% white against the background (black). Rather; the edges are shades of white.
I want to convert the image so that the text is transparent. If the text was 100% white it would be simple. Colors.. Colors To Alpha. However that doesn't work as it doesn't deal with the shades of white around the edges of the text.
I want the shades of white to be transparent with the same degree of opacity as they white. So the white in the image is 100% transparent and a pixel which is say light grey to be 90% transparent. (The end image is going to be used as a webkit mask; showing the background behind the masked element).
I don't know where to start with this. I know PNGs support 8 bit transparency so it should in theory be possible.
I'm on the brink of insanity with creating my diagonal line pattern. I've tried everything I can think of but the pattern is an absolute mess! I want to create a diagonal line pattern but I want the lines not to be uniform. Basically I've made a group of 3 lines and then one separate line on its own, then to repeat this as the picture below. I've used the distribute function so the distances between the lines is identical everywhere. I've then rotated the whole thing exactly 45 degrees and aligned the lines to fit the bounding box in the "make pattern" mode as shown. Yet the resulting pattern is just a mess of overlap ugliness. All I want is for the pattern to literally look as it does in the image on the left, how to sucessfully do this in CS6?

I tried to create a 2d section of a 3d dwg file (imported from Revit)
It kept giving me a message "There are no solids or surfaces that can be projected."
What is the reason of it? It's a 3d dwg file exported from Revit.
Also, can you generate a 2d section thru the xref.

I have found a rouind about way to display document thumbnails in VBA in 64 bit windows 7 inventor.
The only piece of the puzzle I am missing is for a way to push a document object or a document file name into an iLogic Rule from VBA.
Below is a 64 bit thumbnail solution for VBA sans the input.
Essentially I am launching an iLogic Rule from VBA that pushes an inventor document object into a VB.NET dll.
The dll converts the iPictureDisp into a VB.NET image object, reduces the size then converts it into a byte array.
The byte array is passed back to VBA through the same iLogic Rule.
Once the byte array is received it is converted back into an iPictureDisp object.

If I enter the Stress Analysis Environment in 2012, I can apply pressures to surfaces, but what if the pressure varies (eg, with height as it does in a tank holding a fluid). Is it possible to apply a variable pressure to a surface with Inventor's FEA? It doesn't seem like it, I also searched this forum and the net, couldn't find anything. Usually one can enter an equation, that also doesn't work.

If you can create a solid by lofting between two section, in this case they are 3d polylines, along a given path. The path is at the top of the sections. Using the loft command I have to key in the PO ( point ) option several times to get the path option to show then when I select the path it gets treated as another section. See attached.
