AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Prevent A Circular Body From Rotating

Sep 30, 2013

In a weldment assembly i place a symmetric, circular part, but later i want to drill holes in it, and i am afraid that i will accidentally rotate it.

Can i place a constarint that prevents it from rotating? there is no such possibility.

I can ground the part, but i don't like it since if there are modifications they might not be applied (i don't have experience in grounded parts)

AutoCAD Inventor :: Insert And Prevent Assembly Rotating In Their Holes

Oct 17, 2012

I want to make an assemby consisting of 3 parts. A crank shaft and a crank pin that screw into threaded holes in a crank disk. How can I insert them and prevent them rotating in their holes but still allow the whole assembly to rotate around the axis of the shaft? Also how could I lock a flywheel on to the shaft so that whole assembly can rotate togeather?

Trying to use overlay to prevent some circular xrefs. When the civil plan is xreffed as an overlay, the images and pdf's xreffed in the civil file show up in the file it is xreffed into. As an overlay, this should not happen? the problem is that that both the civil and piping drawing has the same pdf xreffed and it is doubled up. Does overlay not work for images and pdf's? is there something else?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Sweep Cut With Solid Body

Feb 28, 2011

i used to use Solidwork's sweep-cut with a solid body feature but i can't find it in Inventor now.

Procedure:

In part file;

Create a second solid body (must be axis-symetric, like revolved feature),

Create a path that intersects with the solid (can be a line or a curve),

Sweep the solid along the path with cut command.

I need this where the sweep-cut with a profile is not enough, to get surfaces obtainable by milling on a cylindirical body on a helical path.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Cut Two Circular Profiles On XZ Plane

Jan 23, 2013

This sheet metal part has two bends, and was created with a lofted flange feature on the XY plane:

It was then cut by two circular profiles on the XZ plane:

When the flat pattern is created, it seems to work just fine as long as the diameter of the circular cut is below a certain value.  Once the diameter is increased beyond this value, the flat pattern returns a cryptic error and does not compute:

I know that the bend geometry does NOT pass through the bend axis,  so I am left guessing at what the real problem is.  I have attached the part.  The part currently has the parameter called "Tank_ID" set to 500 in.  To see the error, change the value of this parameter to 600 in.  For me, the flat pattern breaks between the values of 512 and 513 in.

Why does the flat pattern work at 512, but not at 513, since there is no significant difference in geometry?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Non-Circular / Non-rectangular Pattern

May 14, 2013

I am currently trying to model a multi cavity mould tool. The cavities themselves do not follow either a circular or rectangular pattern.I have modelled one of the cavities using a revolve internal to the tool. I have also sketched out on the upper surface centre points where I need the cavities to be.

I was hoping I would be able to copy the cavity feature, select a base point and then use the centres from my second sketch to place the cavities.

I don't seem to be able to find this option. The copy and paste feature will likely work but it is hugely long winded positioning each cavity individually. Any method I might be able to use to model such a part?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Split Body Into Multiple Parts?

Oct 30, 2013

I have an insert that I'd like to split into several layers. Is it possible to do this with the split tool, or is it limited to only one "split tool" at a time?

In the picture, the wireframe is the 'insert', the letters indicative of cavities cut into the insert. The purple sketch lines would be typical of where the solid part would be split into multiple parts.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Solid Body Visibility In Drawings?

Sep 6, 2012

I'm making drawings of assemblies in Inventor 2012 and was wondering how to turn off the visibility of specific solid bodies within a single part containing multiple bodies, or make it match the visibility in the assembly and part file itself.

In particular my situation is that I have a camera whose part model includes a solid body for its view cone. The visibility of this solid is turned off, so when opening the camera itself, or the assembly containing it, it doesn't appear, but when I place that assembly or part in a drawing it's included, and the only way I've figured out to get rid of it is to turn the whole camera's visibility off within the drawing.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Multi-Body Colour Update All

Dec 10, 2012

Any way of forcing an update of the colour styles from the original Multi-Body part to the assembled/derived components.

I always control colours in the original Multi-body part as I can select groups in one go to change colours, this doesn’t filter down to the derived/assembly component I then have to go into each part and uncheck then recheck the 'Use color override from source component'.

I am aware of the reg file/vba to remove the source override completely but which works for certain ways of working / problems, but I want to control it from the original part which I assume was the way it was intended as it is the default option!

AutoCAD Inventor :: Thumbnail Not Available In Multi Body Assembly BOM

Is it correct that the BOM will not show thumbnails for a multibody assembly until the component are dirtied?  I initially get 'preview not available' for all parts in the assembly.  Opening a part and (for example) moving the EOP back and forth will then cause the thumbnail to show in the BOM.

Is there any quick workaround or do I have to write a macro?
