AutoCAD Inventor :: Embossing Onto Multiple Surfaces

Dec 18, 2012

Is there any way of embossing onto

1. Multiple faces
2. surfaces that are not flat, cylindrical or conical

I have tried using the “stitch surface” command but I can’t seem to get it to select .

The surface was created using the loft command, but I don’t know how to select it as a composite surface . When I am doing the emboss. Maybe it has to be done using another method besides emboss?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Error - Importing Multiple Surfaces Results In 1 Composite Surface

Feb 16, 2012

When importing objects into Inventor, all surface objects are being joined together into 1 composite surface. What I need is multiple surfaces, or seperate surface/composite objects.

Capture 1

Shows 3 solids imported from Rhino

Each solid is a sepreate solid

Capture 2

Shows 2 solids and 1 surface composite imported from Rhino

Capture 3

Shows 1 solid and 1 surface composite imported from Rhino

1. Why is Inventor creating 1 composite from multiple non intersecting surfaces?

2. How can I avoid this from happening?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Use Embossing Inside IPart?

We do steel rings and each one of them has the size and pressure rating embossed in it. What I'm trying to achieve is to have the embossing change according to each member automatically

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Sample Multiple Surfaces For Multiple Alignments

May 18, 2012

I need to figure out a way to sample multiple surfaces for multiple alignments.

Example 1: I am creating cross sections for a river dredge showing the pre-dredge bathymetry, design dredge elevation, and post-dredge bathymetry results. I have 100's of alignments that I need to sample 3 surfaces and display in profile view. Due to the clients requirements for display, using the cross section tools don't work for me, so I have resorted to using a seperate alignment for each cross section.

Example 2: Working in a subdivision with many utility alignments it would save quite a bit of time to be able to choose a group of alignments and sample multiple surfaces in just a few clicks.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Surfaces In Multiple Files

Aug 7, 2013

How practical is it to create and manage surfaces across multiple DWG files?  One of the reasons I'm asking is some of our users are insisting their work can only done in a single file, resulting in massive DWG files and naturally, Civil3D slows to a crawl.  I'll admit I'm not a full time Civil3D user or specialist - thats not my job.  I'm reasonably certain it can be done from the most basic of research (which apparently nobody else wants to do...), but am Uncertain what the potential pitfalls are.

They complain of slowness and are requesting better computers from IT (I've talked them down to more RAM).  I'm trying to forestall a potentially nasty political situation spiraling out of control: they get better computers, others will want them as well and either get them only because of connections, or won't get them and are resentful for the perceived lack of importance.  We don't need people doing 2D schematic drawings on gaming rigs.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: How To Figure Multiple Volumes From Two Surfaces

Sep 26, 2013

using CIvil3D to figure volumes.  I have a very large aerial topo from a couple years ago to compare against a topographical survey I completed this year.  No problem creating surfaces.

Question:  In the topo's, I need to get a volume from two different areas....one area being a fill area, the other being the borrow area.  Don't want any volume data throughout the rest of the site.

Do I just create one large surface for each topo and designate boundaries somehow?  Or do I need to create multiple surfaces for each topo?  If this is the case, will I need to make sure any breaklines, etc. don't cross from one area to the other?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Combining Multiple Surfaces To Create Final Surface

Nov 28, 2012

I am creating my Final Grading surface with from 2 surfaces - a proposed road surface and a proposed grading surface.  (Note of roads within the road surface)

The issue is that when I paste the proposed road surface (that consists of several looped sections) over the proposed grading surface, the proposed grading surface within the looped road areas dissappears.

I have tried several options using boundaries for the inner looped areas on my road surface, and has altered my order of opterations for my final surface edits, and many other things also.

I have attached an image for reference.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Data Bands - Multiple Surfaces Sampling From One Design Profile?

Jun 26, 2013

I have 2 different surfaces (Existing Ground & Proposed Pipe Invert) that I want to have the elevations shown for in a profile data band, but I want them to show at the design profile's PVIs (Proposed Road).  Is it possible to set up a data band style that samples at one profile's geometry points but displays the elevations from these points from a different profile?  My workaround is to set the data bands to all sample from the design profile first and label over the design profile's data band but I'm hoping for a cleaner solution.  Attached is an image showing the profile view in question.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Surfaces Appear Transparent In DWG

Sep 26, 2011

How to get surfaces in a dwg to display correctly in inventor 2012? (just upgraded after SP1) I keep getting random results. I have a seat from our supplier translated from solid works brought in as a composite (converted in inventor 2011). I have assigned colors to faces and in the part/assembly environment it is fine, as soon as it is in a DWG it goes randomly transparent! Some times it is completely see through and others you get an odd face displaying correctly! Even in different views on the same sheet different faces appear normal.

Attached jpegs are: surfaces in dwg and surfaces in an assembly.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Revolve Between Surfaces

May 16, 2012

I am attempting to revolve a sketch between two surfaces in Autodesk Inventor Professional 2012. The problem is that the extrusion is being created on the opposite side of the two surfaces that I want.

For example, I have two flanges on a cylinder. I would like the feature to be created to stretch on the lower side, the larger angle, where the sketch is. Instead, it is creating the feature on the upper side, the smaller angle.

I have adjusted everything I can within the revolve feature options, including unchecking "minimum solution" and switching the starting and terminating faces.

In the attached file I am attempting to revolve "Sketch 7" about the x-axis, between the two flanges closest to the "top." The sketch is centered on where I want the revolved feature to be created.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Defining Surfaces And / Or Materials - BOM

Jan 24, 2013

I have successfully opened a STEP file from our Engineering group and saved it away as an Inventor Assembly. I would like to define Materials and/or Surface finishes for all parts. Why wouldn't the Surfaces and Materials synchronize between the Styudio's Surface Creator and the BOM Materials Control in the Assembly area?

I have found the way to define a new Surface in the "Inventor Studio" Interface and saved it with a unique name. Now, I would like to assign that Surface as a Material to the parts in the assembly ... and of course I would like to define numerous other surfaces and materials for assignment to all the parts throughout the assembly. Finally, I would like these surfaces / materials to follow the model into Showcase for presentation purposes.

When i saw they were missing from the drawing i thought it could be because i haven't  'included surfaces'.

However, when the green arrow update finishes, they disappear, and the include all surfaces box is unticked! i didn't untick it, so what did?

When I try to edit it in the assembly, and select "Copy Construction" from the surfaces menu it will not select the surfaces I need.  First is this the correct command?  This looked like the closest to an offset surface command.

If not, what is the correct command?

I should also add that this assembly has welds in it, if that makes any difference.
