View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a sub assembly that I am making a drawing of. The assembly drawing needs to also display the main assembly as a reference part (in phantom lines). The sub assembly is made up of flexible hoses that need their connection points referenced.
Inserting the main assembly into the drawing, so that I can see both the main assembly and the sub assembly together, messes up the parts list and balloons.
There must be a way to dislay the sub assembly in the main assembly and still have the part list and ballons reference the sub assembly?
I have an Assembly2 in Assembly1. I'd like to insert Assembly2 to Assembly 3 without losing any constraints or adaptive feature to Assembly1, while Assembly2 replaced with Assembly3.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to record a video of a driven constraint. It seems to work fine until I go to view the video file. When I open the file the windows media player opens but no video plays. It acts as if the video is a ~ milli second long.
I have tried to save the file in both formats: .wmv and .avi. Both do the same thing.
One of the enhancements in 2013 is that users can send models to Showcase and convert constraints into animated behaviors, however, some users wonder if there is any way to select constraints which are within the subassemblies instead of the top assembly, how would you do it?
I have selected constraints in subassemblies but they don't become behaviors. The workflow allows users to select them, but they aren't converted into behaviors.
Currently I m wokring on fairly large assembly of (as it feels to me) 14441 (Total Occurances in Active Document) and 1765 (Open Documents in Session). Its a complex Jump Form system for a sky scrapper.
Now as I went on with the assembly and saving all the parts, bolted connections and subassemblies in network drive - few of them were accidently saved in my local drive. I have setup a project files for this project and other projects and any one in my team changes the project file to open certain model assembly. So now when i open the assembly it goes fine but if someone else in my team opens that up they get errors of unresloved stuff. Now the things for which I need guidances are,
1. If I pack and go the whole assembly to remove the reslove errors - what will happen to my 100s of drawings (idw)?
2. Few of subassemblies had to undergo pack and go so that they can be changed to suit requirement at some other places after being renamed through design assistant. But now when i open my main assembly after setting up my prjecting file - it gives errors of multiple instances for the subassemblies obtained by performing "pack and go", in relation with the orginal sub assemblies.
3. What is the best technique for setting up project, main and subassemblies?
4. What steps I must need to follow performing pack and go? the destination folder can be a folder in project? if it is outside, how to grab it back in project (simple copy, paste)? After Pack and Go do I have to rename even the bolts before i bring the Pack and Go folder back to my project???
4. Can Autodesk Vault solve my problems? How difficult it is to setup and use Vault?
My assembly has grown (about 50 parts) to where I need to consolodate some parts into subassemblies for reuse and alternate iterations of the basic design.
When I import the original parts into a new assembly, all of the constrains I created are not there of course.
I've tried creating a new empty part and then deriving a new part from the assembly, but I can't add, delete or edit any parts.
I looked at using Shrinkwrap, Substitutes, iParts, Multi-body Parts, and Multiple Solids but I remain confused.
In retrospect, maybe I should have created the subassemblies between the part and assembly stage but I didn't.
I am playing with a design in simulation where the balance is effected by gravity. I have a part at a set angle to start off so a constraint is place and set to this angle,then in simulation I suppress the angle prior to starting the simulation to see what happens. Then I unsuppress the angle then edit it to adjust the simulation to a new angle I then resupress the angle to free it up and run the simulation again.
This can go on a few times until the angle is found in the simulation.The problem I have is it takes ages to do this. Basically it seems in simulation the tree is always collapsed and I want it expanded, how ever after each change the tree collapses?
Is there a way to have the tree always expanded so I can quickly find and adjust my constraint? Or even better is there a way to pull the constraint into the main edit window for direct editing?
It would be good if a small bow / window could be opened with the ability to add a setting/constraignt that needs constant updating.
I have an assembly I've put together in Inventor 2011. I tried to make an adaptive spring to use with a shock that goes in a car. I'd like the spring to change size as the shock extends and contracts.
I went through the process of creating an adaptive spring, and it worked, but I could only change the length of the spring by using the "Drive Constraint" feature, which only allows me to adjust the spring when I'm using the "Drive Constraint" menu. It plays like a movie. What I want is a part that just moves like you would expect when you push/pull the ends of the shock. I don't want to have to drive it like a movie.
So then I thought that I could just simulate a spring by making a series of rings (toroids). I could constrain the bottom ring and top ring to the shock geometry and then have the other rings position themselves according to the distance between the top and bottom rings.
SO, I have 5 rings. The bottom ring is grounded the top ring has a Limit Constraint that sets the top ring anywhere between 3 and 7 inches above the bottom ring.
How do I create a driven dimension on an assembly that will automatically update the distance between the top and bottom ring?
I would like to call that dimension "HEIGHT", and then I could use parameters to set the middle ring a distance (HEIGHT/2) above the bottom ring, I could set the ring below the middle to (HEIGHT/4), and I could set the ring above the middle to (HEIGHT*3/4).
I should then be able to move the upper ring up and down and the other rings reposition themselves automatically to keep even spacing between the rings on either side.
I tried making a sketch in the assembly and using the "Project Geometry" function to add the location of the upper and lower rings to the sketch. I then used the "Dimension" function to create a driven dimension between the upper and lower rings. When I finished the sketch the other rings all updated exactly as anticipated, but when I moved the top ring the projected outline did NOT move, so the other rings did not continue to update.
lease do NOT link me to adaptive coil video tutorials or explain how driven dimensions work when making parts. I am not looking for that, I am looking for how to create driven dimensions between two placed components in an ASSEMBLY.
I have a parent assembly that contains multiple sub assemblies, two of which need to synchronize with each other.In the parent assembly, I have created a user form that controls the sizes and quantities of all the different sub assemblies.
Sub assembly 1 contains a bracket for supporting 4 rows of pipes.Based on the width selected from the main parent assembly, the length of this bracket can vary.
The spacing of the 4 mounting positions is also determined from the length of the bracket.Sub assembly 2 is an assembly containing all the pipes.The pipes are spaced apart to suit the bracket using a component pattern, and it is this distance that I want to control from the parent assembly.This is just one of the basic scripts I've tried.

I have very little iLogic experience & have being learning as I go along with this project.My best guess is that the code can't loop back on itself. On a slightly different note, I have also noticed that the sub assemblies don't update properly.
If I adjust the width to X and regenerate the model, some of the sub assembly updates. To fully update, I have to go back into the user form, change the size to Y & then change it back again to X and then regenerate.
In 2012 when in a sketch in an assembly all the stuff under "Format" is grayed out.
You cannot make a dimension driven, nor can you make a line construction or a centerline and you can't change a sketch point into a center point. Do I have some setting wrong?
I want to use I logic to adjust an assembly constraint based on T/F value passed from a master sketch.
I have passed the paramater T/F and/or a user paramater as described in this thread using link (neet trick).. but when the code fires it only works on the true application and not the false.. if i open the rule and then close it the update button becomes available and when updated the false condition updates sucessfully. I have tried just re-running the rule to no avail. It seams that the only way I can get it to triger a false condition is to open the rule... close it and update.

The setup is: I have a rule which first gets a number of user parameters via input boxes.This rule then runs a number of other rules, using:
iLogicVb.RunRule("Rule 1")iLogicVb.RunRule("Rule 2")iLogicVb.RunRule("Rule 3").Each of these rules control parameters, part/feature/constraint suppression etc. in the top level and subassemblies/parts based on the previously obtained user parameters.
All the rules have the 'Don't run automatically' option selected, so all should only run as intended when I manually run the first rule.When I run the first rule, I enter all the parameters, and the subsequent rules run.The problem is, the suppression states etc. in the subassemblies/parts do not update.
Looking at the parameters dialog box after the rules have run, all user parameters have updated with the new values.If I run the first rule again the subassemblies/parts update correctly.
It appears that the rules that control the suppression states etc. of the subassemblies run using the initial values of the user parameters, i.e. the values as they were before the user input is obtained, rather than the new values.This is confusing me, as the code is structured as follows:

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy need is to assembly parts into an assembly by a known position in the assembly. The part has a UCS and I create UCS on the assembly programatically. What I cannot do is to constrain the two UCS. I tried this (Inventor 2013 x64 on W7/W8 64, c++ 2010 by the way DEBUG mode is not working from the IDE):

I have an assembly wherein one part is mated to another grounded part, with a face-to-face coincident mate. The click + drag type of movement appears to move the part, while continually solving this constraint.
However, it seems like there is no way to do a rotation in the same manner, where the constraint is continually updated. There appears to only be the "Free Rotate" command, which ignores the constraints.
Is there really no way to do this in Inventor? The application is that I am laying out a mold for many, many small parts, and I am trying to move and rotate them into position to get good packing efficiency and density. Each part will be attached to a mold base with one of the aforementioned face-to-face constraints, then slid & rotated around manually.
This seems like a really important piece of functionality. Solidworks can certainly do this, do a part rotation in an assembly, while solving for existing constraints.
I am using Autodesk Inventor Professional 2013.
Motor Model 1:1 is used to turn the wheel holders at various angles. The part named "front gear spring holder" is supposed to revolve and turn the inner part of the "front wheel holder" My problem is that I want to simulate the turning of the front wheel's using contact sets or 3d/2d contact sets in the dynamic simulation environment. I do not know how to do this, but I'm almost certain the program is capable of doing so. Also the spinning of the front wheels must be able to be done along with various angles of the front wheels(while turning, the front wheels must be able to still spin with the front gear spring holder".
I have seen threads and articles that say that making gears with contact sets is not recommended or possible but i have two instances here where they work perfectly fine using the dynamic simulation with 3d /contact sets. Take a look at the simulation I have saved as well.
I will need more on this assembly in the future, including how to create bevel gears that work at 90 degree angles or spur gears with contact sets instead of just simulating their movements .
I have a frame generator assembly that I created to take advantage of the frame analysis tools. This assembly was later broken down into the main fabricated assemblies (for drawing purposes) using the "demote frame generator component" tools. The basic question is this: can I take one of the "demoted" sub-assemblies and move it to another assembly file all-together?
best way to move the four legs from the platform assembly to the tank assembly after the fact? I was thinking I would just place the leg sub-assembly into the tank assembly and then delete it out of the platform one but I'm not sure of the ramifications.

I am working on a project which uses two gear reducers. I have built the gear reducer and saved it as an assembly file so to import it to the assembly of the project. When i import the reducer assembly into the project assembly, the reducer is shown as a single piece, not as a mechanism which i can interact with. But if i select, by doubleclicking, the reducer, it becomes active again. The problem is that i want to connect the reducer to another gear assembly and watch it interact.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to add an angle constraint to an assembly of a ladder design. I need for the ladder to be able to be set at an angle against a wall and not vertical. The ladder design is such that the base brackets are fixed to the ground and the rest of the ladder may move about the axis of the bolted connection at the base of the ladder. I cannot get the angle constraint on the ladder to allow this.

I got a problem with editing angle constraint in assemblies. I tried edit property of constraint but it didn't move model. Simply changing Angle attribute of constraint item don't work.
Only way I achieved movemenet is

I was wondering if there was a way to suppress a component in the main assembly, and keep it from appearing in the parts list whenever I create one in the idw. environment? I am creating an iassembly, and generating different file versions from the main assembly in my table. In order for me to create different versions off of this main assembly, it is required that I suppress certain sub assemblies or components. I can't get the suppressed componenets to not show up in my parts list when I create it. I turned off enabled and visibility and it still appears in the BOM. Creating a different level of detail doesn't even solve this.
I know I can manually not have it show up in the BOM, but it becomes very time consuming trying to make certain rows not appear in the BOM table.
i have some parts in my assembly wich are rotatable, i made some 2d drawings of my machine.
when change a position in the assembly it also change in the 2d drawing which is logic.
is there a way i can stop inventor from updating my 2d drawing when i change something in the main assembly?

I created a general assembly (GA) and placed several parts and assemblies. After I realized there are too many parts and assemblies in the GA to reasonably place on a drawing. Now I want to remove some parts and create sub-assemblies. Is there an easy proceedure to select some parts in the GA and insert them into a new sub-assembly and (hopefully) keep the constraints intact?

I have a parent skeleton assembly containing many icopy assemblies. These subassemblies are based of one master assembly which in turn has a common part. (hence why I am using the icopy feature)
This standard part has an ilogic rule which varries the number of creases in a wall panel. eg. when the panel is 1200 wide there are 2 creases, when the panel is under 800 wide there is one crease and when the panel is less than 600 wide then there are no creases.
When I insert the icopy assembly into the master skeleton assembly and click select the widths of the panels they stretch and change to suit my skeleton. However I am having to visit each copied panel to run the crease rule.
Is there an operation or some sort of trigger I can implement to make this rule run as soon as the sub assembly is inserted?

I have an assembly that is nearly completed. I am trying to change the lengths of two side rails (arrow pointing to one of them). On each end of these rails are several components that have been constrained to the rails.
When I change the length of the rails, many of the constraints show errors. I expected that all components would move with the ends of the rails as they are shortened since that is where they were constrained, but this has not happened.
The constraint recovery tool has not been useful to me.
