AutoCAD Inventor :: Center Of Gravity Not Correct For LOD

Sep 22, 2010

I have a LOD in my assembly to suppress some of the components. In the assembly, it looks like the center of gravity is correct for the LOD.  Now I place this assembly in an idw with the LOD active.  Now I right-click on the assembly in the idw and choose "Center of Gravity".  The center of gravity shown here does not represent the center of gravity for this LOD.  The CG shown represents the CG of the master LOD.

Is it possible to get the center of gravity to show on the idw that represent the CG of an LOD?

AutoCAD Inventor :: What Is Center Of Gravity

Mar 29, 2013

I can obtain the Center of Gravity of a sub-assembly. What are the values with respect to? The origin/root of the whole assembly or the origin of the sub-assembly? How can I obtain the coordinate of the COG of a sub-assembly with respect to its origin or with respect to the whole assembly's origin?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Center Of Gravity For Channel?

Apr 11, 2012

Structural shape authoring has a parameter mapping for the center of gravity. What values should these be for a C channel where the part origin is at the geometric center and the center of gravity is located along the negative X axis? I checked one of the channels in content center - it had the origin located at the center of gravity and the parameter mapping was the distance to the outer web surface (positive), with the web located in the negative X direction.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Constrain A Part To The Center Of Gravity

Mar 22, 2013

For some reason it will not let me constrain a part to the center of gravity plains. I would like to constrain lifting lugs to the center of gravity so the model will automatically update itself.  Is there anyway to make this work (using ilogic or anything)?

Why would Inventor tease me with showing me the center of gravity plains in an assembly but making them completely useless?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Center Of Gravity Of Each Of Parts In Assembly

Sep 22, 2013

I have created assembly (lets call it main assembly) in which there are 4 other assemblies (lets call them sub assemblies).

Now in the main assembly document i want to display center of gravity of each of the sub assembly.

When i open each of the sub assemblies and turn on center of gravity of each of them, when returning to main assembly view it displays center of gravity of main assembly, not of each of the sub assemblies.

Im asking for this because i want to create a drawing of main assembly and add dimensions of each of the sub assembly centers of gravity and unfortunatly just as in assembly view, when i want to display center of gravity i can do it only for the main assembly not for each of sub assemblies.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Center Of Gravity On Drawing With Different Parts

Oct 21, 2011

I am currently trying to show a comparison of Center of Gravity  between two assembly's.  One is the original state and the other has counter weight bars.  I know how to get the COG to show on my drawings, but both COG locations are the same in my drawings (but different in my assembly)  My problem is when I create View Representations and I toggle the Counter Weight bars off, the COG in my drawing still remains in the same location as if they were still on. I know the hard way of accomplishing my task would be to save 2 seperate models (one with Counter Weights and one without).  But I would like to take full advantage of the Representation Option. Using IV 2012 Pro.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Center Of Gravity On Curved Face Of Assembly

Aug 1, 2013

I am trying to pinpoint the center of gravity on a curved face of an assembly. I can use the c og G command to get the true center of gravity but i would like to incorporate lifting eyes into the finished assembly. Basically I need to know how to find the C of G on a given surface. I have attached the assembly I am working on and added lifting eyes roughly where I would like them. I have tried measuring from the C of G to a face and then creating the lug above the C of G but somehow it doesn't line up.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Center Of Gravity Of Surface Models Or Mesh Features?

Apr 29, 2013

Ok received parts from a customer.  It was ALL mesh features.I converted some of them(the mesh features) to Solids.  Some would not convert to solids (converted to surfaces).

I need to have the COG show up correctly.  Yes, I have a physical COG.  I know where it is supposed to be.

I am trying to use this and several other parts (with mixed, Solids, Surfaces, Mesh features), in an assembly AND balance it all thru a common lift point.

How can I correct the COG of the individual parts, so that the assembly is correct.

I have work planes for the corrected COGs, but I am afraid that I will need to calculate the new COG for the assebmly.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Content Center Part When Changing Size Doesn't Update Correct Length

Mar 15, 2013

A coworker brought this to my attention and I was also immediately able to reproduce this. We use content center C channels and other common beams a lot. After inserting one into an assembly if you right click and select change size and edit the length it typically doesn't update to the correct length.

Example:

Insert a 10" Ansi MC/C channel any size

right click and select change size

add +.0625 to the existing length and hit apply

measure it at 10.06252 in

repeat change size and type in 10.0625

measure it at 10.0625

repeat change size and type in 10 + .0625

and measure at 10.06252 in

It seems to mess up more when you do math but it also screws up entering a simple number

10.000325 usually ends up as 10.000315 in for me.

Editing the part directly from it's parameter dialog doesn't yield anything like this.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Dynamic Simulation - Power Cable Falls With Gravity?

Jul 24, 2013

Im trying to figure out if Inventor's dynamic simulation can simulate gravity on rope or cable shaped solids.

I have a power cord design that I want to display with its cords in various natural positions (IE Flat on a table, hanging from a wall, etc). (see image attached)

My questions are as follows:

1. Can dynamic simulation simulate a rope/cable type object falling with gravity to a natural hanging position?

2. If it can, can I also then save the resulting new shape/model and export it to showcase for rendering (or render within Inventor)?

3. I am currently creating the cords using the sweep command. Using this seems like it may cause problems for the simulation. If I use the wiring harness design part of inventor to create the power cables can it then simulate the cables naturally falling and resting due to the forces of gravity? I know the wiring harness design area is built in, but I have never even opened it before..

AutoCAD Inventor :: Mass Not Correct In Assembly

Sep 21, 2013

I was checking my prints and noticed that the mass for the assembly was not shown correctly.  The mass for each component is correct, but the mass for the assembly is less than the total mass of the parts..... how can that be?

Watch this video.  The mass for my assembly is reported from iProperties as 10 lbs, but the mass for one of the parts is 60lbs.  I would expect the mass for the assembly to be at least 60 lbs, but it is not.  I tried a "Rebuild All" and an "Update Mass" on my assembly, but that did not fix it (30 sec mark in the video).

This assembly is part of a much larger assembly (around 35,000 parts).  There are several more assemblies doing this and I need to get the mass correct.

I am using 2013 x64, SP2.

AutoCAD Inventor :: IDW Not Showing Correct Color Styles?

Sep 5, 2012

I have not seen this issue happen in quite a while. I saw it on earlier releases pre-2013. But now after the Update2 build it seems my IDW's are not behaving properly.

Scenario:

1. Create model of a raw material (steel) stamped bracket. It receives its own part number

2. Create iam using the unpainted bracket and then assign a color (red) to represent a painted finish. This receives a  new part number due to our MFG process.

3. Create iam model using other "painted" sub assembly models (step 2 for instance). New part number.

4. Create IDW but it shows the raw material (step 1) rather than the painted model. It should show the painted

AutoCAD Inventor :: SketchBlock Position - Correct Quadrant

Aug 29, 2012

I have a sketchblock in a sketch that I need to postion into the correct quadrant. I have dimensions on the sketchblock that are told to be driven while running the quadrant position task shown below. see image. Sketchblock is currently in quadrant 1 and I need to be able to push that into the 3rd, thus the (-200,-200).

ThisApplication.ActiveDocument.ComponentDefinition.Sketches(1).SketchBlocks.Item(1).Postion.X = -200

ThisApplication.ActiveDocument.ComponentDefinition.Sketches(1).SketchBlocks.Item(1).Postion.Y = -200

After it is in the correct quadrant I power the dimensions to constraint the sketchblock into correct position.

The question is, how do I position the sketchblock in the correct quadrant via 'position'?

Not working.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Parts List - Cannot Get Correct Precision

Aug 24, 2012

I am working on updating my Parts List and ran into a little issue.  When I make a Parts List with components from the content center, in this case some angle, I cannot get the correct precision.

See attachment.

The first picture shows the correct units in the QTY column but I would like the 2.000ft to just be 2ft.  If I modify the style to correct the precision it adds the units to every item in the QTY column as you can see in the second picture.

Is there a way around this without editing the Parts List each time I create one?
