View 2 RepliesI am currently trying to show a comparison of Center of Gravity between two assembly's. One is the original state and the other has counter weight bars. I know how to get the COG to show on my drawings, but both COG locations are the same in my drawings (but different in my assembly) My problem is when I create View Representations and I toggle the Counter Weight bars off, the COG in my drawing still remains in the same location as if they were still on. I know the hard way of accomplishing my task would be to save 2 seperate models (one with Counter Weights and one without). But I would like to take full advantage of the Representation Option. Using IV 2012 Pro.

How can I obtain the coordinate of the COG of a sub-assembly with respect to its origin or with respect to the whole assembly's origin?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a LOD in my assembly to suppress some of the components. In the assembly, it looks like the center of gravity is correct for the LOD. Now I place this assembly in an idw with the LOD active. Now I right-click on the assembly in the idw and choose "Center of Gravity". The center of gravity shown here does not represent the center of gravity for this LOD. The CG shown represents the CG of the master LOD.
Is it possible to get the center of gravity to show on the idw that represent the CG of an LOD?
Structural shape authoring has a parameter mapping for the center of gravity. What values should these be for a C channel where the part origin is at the geometric center and the center of gravity is located along the negative X axis? I checked one of the channels in content center - it had the origin located at the center of gravity and the parameter mapping was the distance to the outer web surface (positive), with the web located in the negative X direction.

For some reason it will not let me constrain a part to the center of gravity plains. I would like to constrain lifting lugs to the center of gravity so the model will automatically update itself. Is there anyway to make this work (using ilogic or anything)?
Why would Inventor tease me with showing me the center of gravity plains in an assembly but making them completely useless?
I have created assembly (lets call it main assembly) in which there are 4 other assemblies (lets call them sub assemblies).
Now in the main assembly document i want to display center of gravity of each of the sub assembly.
When i open each of the sub assemblies and turn on center of gravity of each of them, when returning to main assembly view it displays center of gravity of main assembly, not of each of the sub assemblies.
Im asking for this because i want to create a drawing of main assembly and add dimensions of each of the sub assembly centers of gravity and unfortunatly just as in assembly view, when i want to display center of gravity i can do it only for the main assembly not for each of sub assemblies.
I am trying to retrieve center of gravity in my assembly, I now already coordinates given by iporoperties, now i want to measure to that specific point, is it possible to do it? or to actually show the center of gravity in the assembly?

I know that the load would be floating in the air at the center of gravity, could this be the issue?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to pinpoint the center of gravity on a curved face of an assembly. I can use the c og G command to get the true center of gravity but i would like to incorporate lifting eyes into the finished assembly. Basically I need to know how to find the C of G on a given surface. I have attached the assembly I am working on and added lifting eyes roughly where I would like them. I have tried measuring from the C of G to a face and then creating the lug above the C of G but somehow it doesn't line up.
View 7 Replies View RelatedOk received parts from a customer. It was ALL mesh features.I converted some of them(the mesh features) to Solids. Some would not convert to solids (converted to surfaces).
I need to have the COG show up correctly. Yes, I have a physical COG. I know where it is supposed to be.
I am trying to use this and several other parts (with mixed, Solids, Surfaces, Mesh features), in an assembly AND balance it all thru a common lift point.
How can I correct the COG of the individual parts, so that the assembly is correct.
I have work planes for the corrected COGs, but I am afraid that I will need to calculate the new COG for the assebmly.
In the iProperties, in the Mass properties are the coordinates of the center of gravity. i guess they relate to the center point and axes in the main origin folder, right?
How can i show and measure from the genter of gravity symbol in parts and drawings?
I'm trying to build a VBA code in inventor 2010 to export the Center of gravity coordinates (X,Y,Z) from an inventor assembly to an excel sheet.
But I'm not able to get the iproperties for the COG from my assembly.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAutodesk Inventor Professional 2011 will crash when we try open a 3D model (Inventor Component) as a Baseline View for a new "Drawing" file.
To replicate the error, we draw a simple Circle and extrude it so it is then a 3D Model. We then create a new "Drawing" file, click the Baseline View button at the top left, and then select the 3D Model Inventor file (the extruded circle). The program crashes and we get the following error from Autodesk Software, NOT Windows.

This is for our college... students need to perform this action for their exam. We have had success using the same software and OS configuration, along with the same steps listed above, on different machines on campus. Not sure what is causing the error on these machines.
We are using Inventor 2011.
Inventor adds extra spaces to the parts list filenames when they wrap.
The space is added just before the break.
We access the parts list in several VBA programs. Mainly to get the line Item number.
With the Filename corrupted with random space characters I cannot tie the document to the item number in code.
Is there a way to get the true fully pathed document name from a parts list Line item instead of the flakey filename that is displayed?
I use inventor to draw cars for competitions. They are made from 2x2x12 balsa wood blocks.
Is there a way to center the drawing directly in the middle of the page?
What type of file would i need to model the car in in order to have it cut out using a cnc router/five axis mill? Would it be the same for wheels (made out of 2mm plastic)?
How can one get the work points and center lines from .iam drawing to .idw drawing.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI’m looking to do a drawing of a content center file that has a table associated with it. I’m looking to do a table much like the general table option that pulls in parameters of a std. part. I understand that content center files have no intelligence to thread data but If there is no easy way of doing that I may need to pull in an excel sheet that has the data I need.
Ultimately I would like a table that has the part #, “Dim A”, “Dim B”, etc. that links to text dimensions on the content center part view in the drawing.
The reason I want it to be a content center file is that I have a couple hundred parts that only differ by one or two dimensions and don't want to have to go through that many drawings to update and make changes to.
I am using Inventor 2012 Pro
I am working with several drawings that were created, I believe, using Inventor 2011. I am currently using Inventor 2013. I noticed some views do not show the outlines of custom parts created using Content Center. And it's only some of the parts within the view. The outlines of parts created the same way show up correctly. The B.O.M. structures for the parts are set to Normal. I toyed with the Drawing View Settings' Display Options with no avail. When the Drawing View is set to Hidden Lines Removed, the part doesn't appear at all. When I select the shaded option, the part appears, but there is still no outline.
Along similar lines (no pun intended), sometimes the outline extends beyond the actual part location. For example, a pipe that is 24 inches will show up in the drawing view as 72 inches. When the shaded option is selected, the part appears correctly, but the outline extends beyond the shaded area.
Is this type of gravity experiment possible with dynamic simulation?
[URL].........
I made the cone ramp and double cone but the cone either goes the wrong way or only moves a few inches in the correct direction and then gets stuck. I’m using 3D Contact Joints and Spatial Joints and Gravity Force.

Im trying to figure out if Inventor's dynamic simulation can simulate gravity on rope or cable shaped solids.
I have a power cord design that I want to display with its cords in various natural positions (IE Flat on a table, hanging from a wall, etc). (see image attached)
My questions are as follows:
1. Can dynamic simulation simulate a rope/cable type object falling with gravity to a natural hanging position?
2. If it can, can I also then save the resulting new shape/model and export it to showcase for rendering (or render within Inventor)?
3. I am currently creating the cords using the sweep command. Using this seems like it may cause problems for the simulation. If I use the wiring harness design part of inventor to create the power cables can it then simulate the cables naturally falling and resting due to the forces of gravity? I know the wiring harness design area is built in, but I have never even opened it before..
I wonder how to convert the centre of gravity of a part into a work point.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having some fits with the constrained orbit center. It seems to me that It used to always be in the center of the screen when I would use Shift and CMB. Now it seems to be stuck on the center of my assembly/part. I know that I can hit F4 and long select LMB to re-center but I have never had to do that before the last day or two. I have uninstalled all the Beta Add ins I had installed and I have even uninstalled and reinstalled Inventor Pro 2014.
Is there an option somewhere that puts the default Orbit Center to the center of the screen?
windows 7 using autocad lt 2011 cannot save drawing, computer freezes each time you try to save.
