View 4 RepliesIs there a way or method to use center lines or points as constraints? I very recently had to constrain a cylinder to a 3mm flt bar (at the end with the bar positioned perpendicular to the cylinder)
I couldnt find a successful way of constrainting these together. i couldnt mate them because i couldnt select the cylinder face. In this instance, how could i do that?
I know there is ipn file to create an exploded view. But if I have used a positional rep to create one. How can I automatically show the tweak lines or center lines on explode path

I am new to Inventor after using Unigraphics for a while and finding the modelling side very similar so no problems there. the problems are starting when i am producing drawings.
I am trying to manually break a dimension extension line around an inserted symbol ( surface finish symbol) and can't figure this out. I have noticed that Inventor automatically break dimensions round other dimensions but is there a way to add a manual break?
Also is there a way to break a center-line round dimension text? i have added a picture with the problem.
how to use AutoLISP to draw lines between two points. I have x,y,z coordinates for the end points in an excel sheet which I can save as a text file. I need to pull the coordinates from the file and use them to draw the lines. There are 2000+ lines so it is not feasible to draw them manually.

I have set up my point styles to bring in our points with all the attribute information so I am thinking it keeps trying to read all that info as soon as my mouse hits it..
I saw a post about rollovertips but that did not change anything. Any ides what might be causing this? Im using Civil3D 2011.
I'm working on a design for an Outdoor Slat Chair and when I try to constrain the slats to the side of chair (3/4" extrude) they end up constrining off in mid air. I believe they are constraining to the center points of the arcs and fillets used to create the chair sides. Does this make any sense and if so, how do I get around this issue?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAttached are two parts and an iFeature that I keep in the "Punch" folder and use as a punch. It is common that clearance holes need to turn into slots and vice versa. The centerpoint is the perfect locator for both. The problem is I have not found a good way to place an iFeature slot on a centerpoint as easy as I do an iPunch. This means I have to convert the part to sheet metal and then back again.
Is there an easy way to place a slot, or a similar slot like this with an iFeature? ie as easy as the Hole Feature or iPunch Feature?
The other thing I do is add an axis and plane thought the center points to aid in constraining. If I remember correctly it was not possible to include work geometry in an iFeature (at least with version 10)
I am trying to add some connection points to flanges that we have ion our Content Center. I am having difficulty. I can get it done if I re-author the flange from scratch, but not if I attempt to modify an existing part.
My workflow:
Get a custom fitting to my localEdit itRun the Tube and Pipe Autor toolAdd my additional connectionSaveFrom the content center editor run Replace Family Template on the original family
This doesn't seem to work.
My new company is running Inventor Routed Systems 2009 and something is up with the standard Content Center. I just came from another company running 2011, and I am used to just being able to click "Place from Content Center" and having it just work. Not so here. When I click on that button, I get this prompt:
But, we have no server for this sort of thing. So, I tried to point Inventor to a network location where it can find a set of Content Center files.
I also made sure to point the project to that location as well.
Still, I get the same prompt. How do I make it go away get get access to the Content Center?

I have a series of points that I've placed along a sloped line in a 3D Sketch. However, if I delete one of the points, all the points that have been created are erased as well. I found a way to get around it (remove the constraints of the point I'm trying to delete and then delete the point). However, if I want to delete multiple points, the solution I have would take up some time.
I don't want to create a rectangular pattern in a 2D sketch because, when the line changes slope, the pattern doesn't seem to recognize the new slope direction and the points appear offset from the new sloped line.
Is there a way I can get create some semblance of a pattern in 3D sketch and also have the ability to delete individual points within a series of created points?
I have an assembly that I want to put some wires in, but every time I create a wire between pins, or a segment, or anything through the Cable and Harness tool, the centerlines don't show up. The rendered wires can appear, but without any sort of way to get at the centerline, I can't set its path or anything like that.
I was wiring up components no problem in a sub assembly, but for some reason it just won't work in my top level assembly. I thought it might be a problem with how I added pins to the components, but even trying to create a wire between 2 connectors from the content center gave the exact same results.
Currently using 2012 and I had the same problem in 2010.
When I turn visibility off and on in an assembly, all previously constructed user planes, axis and points become visible.
Is there a fix available to download?
I have a newly discovered issue with left clicking and moving lines and points in 2D-sketch.
After working in Inventor for a while I cant move lines and points(green and unconstrained geometry). If I exit 2D sketch mode and enter again I can move a line once and then its back to not being able to manipulate the geometry at all, the curser just want to create a marking box.
I have a new optical mouse with cord, its a Logitech G400. I have switched mouse but with the same result.I have installed the latest driver for the mouse.
I am currently trying to show a comparison of Center of Gravity between two assembly's. One is the original state and the other has counter weight bars. I know how to get the COG to show on my drawings, but both COG locations are the same in my drawings (but different in my assembly) My problem is when I create View Representations and I toggle the Counter Weight bars off, the COG in my drawing still remains in the same location as if they were still on. I know the hard way of accomplishing my task would be to save 2 seperate models (one with Counter Weights and one without). But I would like to take full advantage of the Representation Option. Using IV 2012 Pro.

I use inventor to draw cars for competitions. They are made from 2x2x12 balsa wood blocks.
Is there a way to center the drawing directly in the middle of the page?
What type of file would i need to model the car in in order to have it cut out using a cnc router/five axis mill? Would it be the same for wheels (made out of 2mm plastic)?
I am trying to use sketch points in drawing for dimensioning. Below is portion of my code. The code fails when AddLinear is called. Is it even possible to use drawing sketch points for dimensioning?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI’m looking to do a drawing of a content center file that has a table associated with it. I’m looking to do a table much like the general table option that pulls in parameters of a std. part. I understand that content center files have no intelligence to thread data but If there is no easy way of doing that I may need to pull in an excel sheet that has the data I need.
Ultimately I would like a table that has the part #, “Dim A”, “Dim B”, etc. that links to text dimensions on the content center part view in the drawing.
The reason I want it to be a content center file is that I have a couple hundred parts that only differ by one or two dimensions and don't want to have to go through that many drawings to update and make changes to.
I am using Inventor 2012 Pro
I am working with several drawings that were created, I believe, using Inventor 2011. I am currently using Inventor 2013. I noticed some views do not show the outlines of custom parts created using Content Center. And it's only some of the parts within the view. The outlines of parts created the same way show up correctly. The B.O.M. structures for the parts are set to Normal. I toyed with the Drawing View Settings' Display Options with no avail. When the Drawing View is set to Hidden Lines Removed, the part doesn't appear at all. When I select the shaded option, the part appears, but there is still no outline.
Along similar lines (no pun intended), sometimes the outline extends beyond the actual part location. For example, a pipe that is 24 inches will show up in the drawing view as 72 inches. When the shaded option is selected, the part appears correctly, but the outline extends beyond the shaded area.
I want to construct lines between every two line ending point by multi selectio window instead of drawing it manually between lines ending point ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedCant figure this out - I create a sketch in a drawing, but I cant see the lines as I'm drawing them. The lines are on a "solid" layer set to red as defined in my standard. The background of my drawings is black. When the line command is done, the line appears and it's red. Problem is I cant see it as I'm sketching. Is there any way to modify this? Can I have the line appear red (or white) as I'm sketching?

Are Parcel center points available in the API?
The origin of the Area Label would be ideal.
I'm currently using AutoCAD Electrical 2013, but I think that this may fall under a general AutoCAD question.
The company I'm working for does panel layout drawing that require upwards of several hundred holes to be punched into it. Right now, we use ordinate dimensions to show center points of all the holes for our hole punch machine. Recently, we decided to start putting the X,Y dimensions on an Excel spreadsheet for easier reading for our punch operator. What I'm looking for is a way to either A) extract the ordinate dimensions from AutoCAD and into an excel file or B) Extract the hole center locations from a specified base point to an Excel spreadsheet. Is there an easy way to do this or do I have to go one by one and type it out?
When plotting any IDW files to our full size plotter, I have ghost lines running through the drawing (lines that are not present in the drawing, on screen or preview) alomost like the plotter is printing extra extension lines on the drawings, overlaying 2 sheets on 1 drawings and even moving some text on the drawings. I have all the SP's and am lost. I can move to another computer and print drawings fine so its not a plotter issue.

I have a question regarding copying geometry in drawing mode.
When I was working in V5 and making drawings I sometimes had to "fake" geometry, the world is not perfect I know, copy geometry in the 2d, like center lines and such. I am trying to do the same in Inventor and use the project geometry button and geometry is created but it does not show up when exiting sketch.
does Inventor offers any option to break geometry lines in drawing behind the text (e.g. notes and dimensions)? I tried this in IV 2009 as well as in IV 2011, but the result is the same in both version, shown on first image. The text is sometimes difficult to read when it is crossed with geometry lines.
