I'm wondering if there is a way to annotate from the origin without having a long diminsion line to the center. (see image) I want it like the 'linear diameter' but not with double my size. I always have to annotate the projection from center and this would be easy much more easy to do.

right click for marking menu,
selected dimensions,
Origin is yellow,
cannot select it and then edge of rect to set dim that will center sketch on origin? Just like the videos show, but cannot select origin>
The screen shot below shows three coincident constraints and a projection icon on the origin.
looks like a projection icon - what does it mean?
I want to delete the three coincident constraints. But when I delete the coincident constraints there is no Sketch origin center point (the sketch origin center point is a square-yellow dot at the x-y intersection). How to delete or move the three coincident constraints with out deleting the sketch origin center point?
After I create a sketch, how do I center it about the origin? The origin is projected, I just can't figure out how to set the sketch about it.

For the upper view, I want to set the origin to be the same as the view below it. I can set it to the end of one of the hidden lines from the hole, but I can't seem to set the origin to the center of the hole.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Inventor 2012 and am experiencing a bizarre problem with placing content center parts. When I start a new assembly, and place a content center part, I would expect it to locate itself central to the assembly origin. What actually happens is that it grounds itself wherever I click on the screen. This doesn't happen with parts that I have created myself.
Is there a bug in the system or maybe an option that I have unknowingly switched off?

When I draw a line at the origin, it does not find the origin and snap to it, or auto apply the horizontal constraint when near horizontal. Or if I draw an L the lines are not connected. That is, I can pull one line away from the other. I can not find the settingsto correct this behavior. What's up?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden when i create a circle on the origin it is not turning green and constraining the circle to it. Also when i am creating a line from the midpoint of another line the midpoint is not turning green and the line is not constrained to that point. I have checked the autoproject origin box in the appl settings and it is active.

I unchecked "show entire line" and it still leaves a massive line away from the arrow.
I need a creative way to do something I know can be done in SW and Pro-E but as far as I know can not be done in Inventor to date
I am using the origin center line and semitry to control a box and its associated geometry and want to control the position or offset of a second box relitive to the first using a center line associated to the second box with a dimension. Problem is that the dim will only control its off set position relitive to the initial side from which the dim was placed. I.E. if the dim is placed when the CL of the second box is to the right it can not be moved to the left (what would in essence be a -dim condition) understandably Inventor does not like that but SW and Pro-E can use there little wheel and roll it down to 0 and then back up to a + dim in the opposit or in this case Left direction.
I know that I could place a dim off the interior wall of my first box geometry and associate it to the CL of the second box but the math to that may or may not be appropreatly effective in other words in condition A it may need to be 1/3 of d1 and in condition B it may need to be 2/3's of d1 or some other dimension.
I would love to be able to do this via iLogic or perhaps something to do with the placement relitive to a construction geometry utilizing a circle but so far I have not found a viable solution.

I made a bunch of lines, then used the bend command to make curves where they intersected. I'm trying to put lines connecting A to C and B to D. How do I constrain the ends of the lines to the center of the curves?

Say in the front view you can see the radius of the slot with horizontal tangents running to the end of the object; this isn't the problem. When creating the top view, you only see one hidden line indicating the arch, but the other side is just open to the end. You have no means of finding bisectors.
I've added a jpg file, looking for the center line in the top view.

View 6 Replies View RelatedThe objective is to section a part, selecting a center of the hole (side view, not top view) to attach the section line.
In the hole's top view we can select the center hole to attach the section view, but in the side view, i can´t find any attach point, even if i have a center line.
I know we can edit the section line later and create some construction lines to center the section line with the hole, but i wonder, there's a better process, more automatic, to achieve this?
I am trying to edit the placement of vertical text within a dimension line - I wish for the text to be outside the dimension line not inside.

When we design vehicles, we often give dimensions that are based off the centerline of front axle. In a particular drawing view, if we don't show the actual axle, how can we dimension an item from this imaginary line that is located on the frame? I tried creating a sketch on the drawing view and drawling a line but I can't locate that line any particular way...meaning I can't put that line 50" back from the front of the framerail, for example.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAutodesk Inventor 2010 .idw Drawing Detail - Where is the default setting for "Full Dimension Line" so that I can set it to always be on when placing a linear diametric dimension? I would prefer to turn it off on the few occasions when dimensioning a diameter on a Detail View that does not include the center line rather than each and every diameter on a section view. This is necessary because a diameter symbol does not show up in the diameter dimension unless the full distance line it is selected, which is not always possible. I am aware of the Application Option setting that allows Linear Diametric as a preference, which becomes the default for all dimensions, and it is user specific rather than document specific.

', FDO_LAYER2 ) )
This layer is styled so that all text is centered. In this case, FDO_LAYER2 is having it's text left aligned. I'm pretty sure this is due to the method I am using for a new line. Is there something else I can use to break the line and maintain the center styling?
Using a second point for FDO_LAYER2 is not an option.
