AutoCAD Inventor :: Intercept Dimension Between A Line And A Circle
Oct 30, 2012I am trying to make a intercept point with dimension between a line and a circle and i can't figure out how to do it.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to make a intercept point with dimension between a line and a circle and i can't figure out how to do it.
View 2 RepliesIf there is a way to force the dimension of a line or circle or anything.
For example: If I draw a line and dimension it, it will dimension it to 2.973 let's say, but if I want to change the dimension or the line to 3.300, how would I do that?
Also, after you create a 2D drawing, is there a way to make it a 3D model or extrude the model?
my 2014 inventor crashed and since then when I try to dimension a circle, I get a small "half circle" icon and it dimensions the half circle instead of a diameter or radius. Is there a setting that has changed when I crashed? I cant right click to get any dimension options.
It seems that the diamter dimension works on other things. the part im trying to dimension is a frame generator part. I have dimensioned off of these with no problem.

I am not able to dimension to a circle edge when adding a sketch to existing feature of part. It works fine when it is the first sketch of the part file, but not when it is a child sketch. I've attached images of both situations. This has been verified on two machines, one is Inventor 2013, the other is Inventor Pro 2013, SP 1.1. The feature that I am trying to sketch on is the face of a contour roll.

I have given the dimension location text point as input, but it doesn't take input location point to place the dimension and places the dimension at the center of circle. Please see the attached snap "CircleWithRadius.png".
Here is the sample
//===============================
CComPtr<Point2d> point2D;
TransientGeometry::CreatePoint2d(5, 5, &point2D);
CComPtr<SketchPoint> sketchPoint = SketchPoints::MethodAdd(point2D, FALSE);
CComPtr<SketchCircle> sketchCircle = SketchCircles::MethodAddByCenterRadius(sketchPoint, 3);

Why the circle entity always place the radius at the center of circle?
Octagon inside a circle... The circle cannot be dimensioned off the octagon?
I need it to have, say .25" clearance and I mean I can just make the circle the right size... but Inventor/I really should be able to do something this simple...
A circle inside a circle, same center point, you can click both and get the distance between the two?
(R-click and set circle to Radius does nothing, it still wants to dimension it from the center point)
I have a have a custom ribbon tab on the Assembly and ZeroDoc ribbons, those have pannels and buttons.
The custom buttons have OnExecute event that can have custom actions addded.
But how can we intercept the event when user is clicking on the custom tab to show custom pannels?
Is there a OnExecute or a similar event for the RiboonTab?
I need to find the center of a circle that is tangent to another circle and a point on a line. I cannot use tangent tangent radius.

see attached jpg. I want to know if there is a way to get rid of the "extension line" that the diameter dimension creates?
as you can see it runs over the slots on my detail and looks confusing.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if there is a way to annotate from the origin without having a long diminsion line to the center. (see image) I want it like the 'linear diameter' but not with double my size. I always have to annotate the projection from center and this would be easy much more easy to do.

When we design vehicles, we often give dimensions that are based off the centerline of front axle. In a particular drawing view, if we don't show the actual axle, how can we dimension an item from this imaginary line that is located on the frame? I tried creating a sketch on the drawing view and drawling a line but I can't locate that line any particular way...meaning I can't put that line 50" back from the front of the framerail, for example.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAutodesk Inventor 2010 .idw Drawing Detail - Where is the default setting for "Full Dimension Line" so that I can set it to always be on when placing a linear diametric dimension? I would prefer to turn it off on the few occasions when dimensioning a diameter on a Detail View that does not include the center line rather than each and every diameter on a section view. This is necessary because a diameter symbol does not show up in the diameter dimension unless the full distance line it is selected, which is not always possible. I am aware of the Application Option setting that allows Linear Diametric as a preference, which becomes the default for all dimensions, and it is user specific rather than document specific.

I have done this lot of time in my previous job an year back. but I can't seem to remember what to type between dimension text & the word I want to add in edit text box, so that it appers below dimension line.
I'm having a dimensioning problem, and it doesn't seem to matter if it something I have created or something a customer has sent to me.
When I attempt to dimension a circle, I get the following error message:
Select arc or circle: Object selected is not an arc, circle or polyline arc segment.
A few days back, I got this error message, and when I came in the next morning, I was able to dimension the circle.

I am having an issue with my dimensions. If I have a dimension that is 1'-3" or larger, my extension line beyond my dimension line extends the normal length, but as soon as my dimension goes under 1'-3", the extension line then gets twice as long outside of the dimension line (see attachment). I have researched...and i can't seem to find a dim variable that will let me change this. is there anything to control this happening once my dimension goes below 1'-3"?
