is there a way to associate a stretch action with the length of an attribute value (i.e. # of characters in the string) or is this something left to vlisp?

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Linking Stretch Action Distance To Attribute Value

Dec 3, 2012

I have a block which is a simple rectangle with a height and width attributes that when I edit, change or update the height and width attributes I want the rectangles height and width to change as well.

I know I can go backwards using fields and the attributes would show the stretched length and width but is it possible to go the other way?

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Change Length Of Line Based On Length Of Attribute

Jan 8, 2013

Is it possible to change the length of a line based on the length of an attribute?

I'd like to make the line a MINIMUM length of X" (I haven't decided how long yet--but know I'll need a minimum).  But then after the user fills in the attribute, I'd like the length of the line to change to the length of the attribute plus a small amount (again, I haven't decided yet how much extra).

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Line Length Follow Content Length Of Attribute

Mar 16, 2012

I was wondering if there is a way with DB's to have a line "follow" or "grow" with the content/value length of an attribute. Maybe some method of linking the attribute width to length of the line? Essentially, it would work just like turning on the underline setting when typing in mtext editor (or any program with an underline option for that matter), expect that the line could be placed anywhere, and would not have to reside directly below the text.

AutoCad 2D :: Not Displaying Length With Stretch Action In Dynamic Block

Aug 25, 2011

I use dynamic blocks a lot of the time and most of them have a stretch action in them. What used to happen would be that whenever I clicked on the block I wanted to adjust and then clicked on the stretch action, it would show the distance from the base point and I was able to type in the new length of the object I was stretching. But now whenever I click on the stretch action, it shows that the current length is 0 and it is asking for the distance from the current point, not the base point. How can I change it so that it is always just the distance from the base point?

AutoCad :: Hatch In Dynamic Blocks With Stretch Action

Jul 15, 2013

I foolishly thought i'd sorted making hatch work within a dynamic block that requires user input to set length and width of block...the hatch would fill to the revised size when the user sets the length and width in the properties dialogue...woohoo. Off I go home from work having defeated the nemesis of the day.

Open up my drawing today and can I get the hatch to act as it did yesterday?

I built my block (a simple rectangle all told) added my parameters in block editor. length and width linear actions with 0 grips as I don't want stretching by grips. Added the stretch actions. Tested the block (without hatch)...working. Only then did I hatch, so into block editor and using associative, send to back, normal island detection and selecting the rectangle to hatch. tested block ...working. great. Inserted the block into new drawing...working.

Opened AutoCAD today...Not working...hatch remaining as original size

Tried building new block exactly as I did yesterday...no joy...

On a side note...it works if I leave grips on but only if I use the grips to activate the hatch (it still doesn't work by just typing into properties though) that's not going to cut it as I don't want to be telling everyone to wiggle the grips so to speak.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Attribute Not Rotating And Stretch Parameter

Jul 21, 2011

I am very new to dynamic blocks. I am starting off learning the small stuff before I get to the larger more complex blocks to convert to dynamic.

I have a reference block I am trying to "master" all the functions we would like to see.

I have two major concerns.

1) Why can't I rotate this block (via rotate action) and have the attributes stay at angle zero? I thought I built the parameters and actions correct.

2) I haven't ran across anything that explains how to stretch 2 linear parameters at the same time with the same distance (ex: stretch both at .25, .5, .75)

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Stretch Dynamic Block Grip Points

Feb 4, 2011

I have successfully created a dynamic block. I can insert it into AutoCAD, and it behaves like I want, except for one thing.

I can select the block and change it by taking a grippoint and place it at another position. So my block is e.q. stretched, just like I wanted.

But then. When I want to use the ordinary STRETCH command of AutoCAD, I can only stretch the insertion point of the block, but not the grippoints. Is there a way to set a grippoint to be select edable by commands like STRETCH.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Dynamic Stretch Grip Gets Offset

Apr 4, 2012

Is there a way to have the grip stay in the correct position when the distance multiplier is .5? It seems to "get ahead" of the original location.

In the attached block, when I stretch the block with the grip, the grip ends up off the end point.  Both actions have a .5 multiplier, with the left side having a rotation of 180 - so both sides stretch equally in opposite directions.

Also, there are 3 views with parameters (width/depth). Is there a way to get the user to enter in the sizes without having to select the size on each view? Basically a table that has a 'user input' field so the size selected changes everything at one time.

We are looking to create either a dynamic block or some kind of block that will automatically stretch with the text length.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Adding One Action To Dynamic Blocks

Mar 15, 2012

I have created a dynamic block with several visiblility states. The block works great for what I need it for. however, I am trying to add one more action to the block but am having issues.

This block is essentially a 24" retail cabinet with the visibility states showing the different drawer and shelf configurations. I want to be able to lengthen the cabinet in 24" increments and have the visibility show for each 24" section.....e.g.  I want a 10' cabinet so I bring in the 24" starter block. Then stretch the cabinet to the 10' mark, then I can chose any drawer/shelve config for each 24" section (they are all different).

I can get the block to stretch in 24" sections....no problem.....i just want the visibility state to be duplicated as well for each section. Now as it stretches, there is only one Vis state and it only populates the first cabinet.

I could do this by copying the block over and over 5 times.....but I am hoping there is a way to make this dynamic.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Automatic Stretch In Dynamic Block For Attribute Value?

Jun 7, 2012

We have specialized electrical schematic drawings on what is termed roll-drawings.  These roll-drawings are simply 12" tall and variable width type drawings.  We've had some as short as 24 inches and as long as 900 inches.  As a result we use these section dimensions to distinguish circuit boundaries.  It's not a real dimension, just a way to distinguish what circuit is located where.  I've tried to recreate it using a block for improved automation as currently we just use a lisp routine that draws an arrow and lines.  It looks like the screen capture of my block below.   Is it possible to have the inside endpoints of the lines automatically stretch outwardly toward the arrows as the attribute Value changs?

AutoCAD .NET :: Explode Dynamic Block With Stretch Action

Dec 4, 2013

In my Project I build a static Block by inserting dynamic blocks from a template dwg and then explode them.

Actually I create a new Data Base, insert the blocks from my template, set the according Dynamic Properties, Explode the Block in the temp DB and then wblockclone the resulting Objects in my destination BlockTableRecord.

This works fine, but:

in my source dyn. block there is an associative surface defined by a Polyline(Rectangle) , attached a stretch action to change the size. I can set the Width parameter, after the Explode the polyline itself is updated, but the planar surface is not... so if I explode this block I get a well stretched Polyline and the "base" surface.

Manipulating the dynamic Block works fine... If I have stretched 3D-Meshes, they are ok as well. It seems to be something with the planar surface object.

Dim objs As New DBObjectCollection idsToImport.Clear() If Helpers.Registry.GetValueFromRegistry("ExplodeSubs").ToString = "1" Then ' debug switch bref.Explode(objs) 'the dyn BlockRef in the external (temp) Database bref.Erase(True) For Each [code].......

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Insertion Point Of Attribute Changing Within Dynamic Block

Nov 21, 2011

I wish to create a dynamic block containing some attributes. These attributes are inside rectangles that can't be modified in length using linear parameters ; but the attribute has to be always in the middle of the rectangle. So, I draw a line inside the rectangle (in a hidden layer) and insert the attribute with center justification (not sure for the translation) that I place in the middle of this line ; then I put a coincidence constraint (not sure for the translation, but it's the first one) linking the middle of the line with the middle of the attribute.

But here's the problem : when stretching my rectangle, the insertion point of the attribute suddenly changes from "center" to "bottom left".

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Pass Attribute Values To Dynamic Block Parameters?

Dec 4, 2013

I am looking for a way to use the ATTIN/ATTOUT workflow to bring in data from an excel spreadsheet to drive the size of each of my block's instances. The block will be simple, a rectangle, with width and length parameters. For each entity in my excel/csv file these parameter values are spelled out. I know how to display these parameters in my attributes, but I don't know how, if I were to feed in these values, to drive the geometry. If there's a better way to take a list of width and length values to generate a series of blocks each with a rectangle containing its respective size.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Link Dynamic Block Custom Rotation Action

Mar 22, 2013

So I've done a reasonable amount of work with dynamic blocks. I have a block with a rotation action and grip to arbitrarily align it.  However I realized when trying to combine it with an alignment grip (which actions on the basic or fundamental block rotation angle) that there didn't seem to be a way to some how link a dynamic block rotation action or one of the custom angle properties to a the fundamental block rotation angle.  Thus there are two additive rotations at work; the dynamic block one with its grip and the fundamental rotation property.

This can cause some confusion when one person aligns with the grip and another via rotating the block's fundamental property and would also be problematic in the generalized sense if one was trying to select or programmatically read back the net angle alignment.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Keep Dot In Center Even After A Stretch

Mar 23, 2012

Attached is a block that I am using for Finish plans.  Basically how it works is that it is suppose to be inserted and then stretched to indicate a finish change in the floor.  When I insert it and stretch it, it works exactly as I want it, but when the scale is changed, the center tag resets to the original center before the block is stretched.  I would like it to stay in the center relative to the line that is stretched.

Not sure if you understand, but if you are good with dynamic blocks. You will notice that the dot is annotative where as the line that stretchs is not.  I cant have the line change because it will be stretched between two areas with different floor finishes and that will stay consistant.  I want the block to adjust so that it is the same size on all the scales of the drawing.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Link Rotation With Stretch

if it's possible to link a rotation with a stretching action. I have a text (or an attribute) inside a box that can be stretched. But if the box becomes too small to hold the text horizontally, I would like that the text automatically rotate vertically without any other action that stretching the box. If that is possible, is it also possible that instead of a text, there's an attribute, and that it rotates according to the attribute's length ?
