AutoCAD Civil 3D :: When Surfaces Cross Or Pass Close To Each Other Some Extra Triangles Show Up
May 8, 2013
I used the function paste to combine three surfaces in one. It could represent a highway. I noticed that when surfaces cross or pass close to each other some extra triangles show up trying to stitch together the surfaces. I can not find an option that can stop this, eg "not create extra triangles". Why these extra triangles occur? Can you limit it?
I have multiple surfaces representing topsoil, clay and types of bedrock, and an alignment set with sample lines and sections set. Trying to use the Compute Materials using material lists and the corresponding shape style to hatch between each surface something is going wrong. With all the display settings (Plan,Section,Profile, etc) set to by layer and on a created layer(not on 0). The shape area fill is set to solid. It will not display the hatch.
How to compare two surfaces and show with colors the elevation differences between the two. My question is when selecting a elevation range, I would like to have more colors plotted. This is hard to explain.
If I have say 8 elevation ranges in my analysis tab, I see it starts with red and goes to green. If I increase the range, I get into the blues. How can I expand the colors so If I only have 6 or 8 ranges that I see more colors and less shades of red. (by the way, I have selected rainbow color scheme)
After crating my squared pond (or waste landfill for that matter) I runned a cross section from an alignment running across the the entire pond. The cross section did not show the bottom of the pond. I noticed that I forgot to do an infill to the bottom of the pond so I did it. But, still the bottom of the pond its not showing up in the cross section, just the side slopes. Do I have to delete the alignment across the pond and recreate it? That is probably the only thing I have not done. BTW, I have an access road coming down the side of the pond with a corridor created already and is not showing up neither on the cross section.
Along my corridor I have different assemblies I used. My sidewalk is curb side in some locations and in different locations there is a boulevard between the curb and sidewalk. I want to transition between these different assemblies and I want that transition to show up in the cross sections I cut. Isn't there a way to tell Civil 3D to transition from one assembly to the next one as you could in Eagle Point?
I have a fairly simple corridor, however, I had to modify the alignment, rebuild the corridor and resample cross-sections. Now my right daylight slope won't show up. It shows up in the section viewer, but not the cross-section. I had this problem once before and fixed it, but now I can't remember how I did...I have all targets, sections sampled match corridor sampling etc.
I've got a series of cross sections that show an existing and proposed scenario and I need to show the location of the site boundary on the (multiple) sections.
I tried making a feature line from the site boundary but all the feature lines get projected - how can I just get the site boundary to be shown?
I have created a road for a pit mine (which is unlike roads I have designed in the past). The road switched back towards itself and I need to daylight the cut slopes to show the limits of the mine/road cut. However, my cut/fill lines are not showing up in my cross-sections, but the plan view is showing the limits of excavation.
I assume this is because my limits are intersecting, from each of the roads, the upper and the lower. How can I get around this, or why are my cross-section lines not showing?
In a particular road project i need to show for all the cross sections, the coordinates (x,y) of the main points ( for example: daylight, etw and crown). I know that i can obtain it from reports->corridor but as far as i know, i must edit in excel and paste each PK info next to the correspondant cross section.
Is there a way more automatic raher than copy paste the report list?
recommend a good way to indicate the location of cross section sample lines in a profile view (of same alignment) as vertical lines? the sample lines have been created at user defined locations from polylines, and do not follow a particular station order. my first thought was to use transparent command to draw line in profile view using station from plan view, but i have in excess of 100 cross sections, and that may be time consuming.
I am having an issue with an xref in one of my drawings. There are AEC_WALL objects in the xref file but in my drawing they show up as small triangles with an exclamation mark inside.
Putting in a simple berm crest, and the triangles skip right over a certain section. Swap edge does nothing and adding points seems to make things worse. I have been able to fix this problem before, but only by deleting my surface and then putting all the pieces back in at once. Then it's perfect.
I think part of the problem may be that the "Contour help" I put in at the blue major contours is screwing things up.I have had the same issue when putting in down-slope channels as well.
Whenever I try to use the "DWG to PDF.pc3" driver, I'm getting TIN triangles in my PDF. They don't show up in the "Print Preview", just in the resulting PDF. They also don't show up if I print directly to a printer. Only in the PDF. Never saw this before installing SP2.1.
I am running 2011 c3d on windows 7 with 15 GB of ram.
An error message I get is "reading triangles from file" and the program locks up to where you need to do a reset on the computer. I have an existing ground surface that is data shortcut into the file I am opening when I get this error. The existing ground surface is about 5 mg in size. I'm not sure if this is causing the error.
i am trying to add as a breakline. i have not been able to get this particular line to work as a breakline and the surface keeps drawing triangles through the line like its not even there. The figure properties show that it is a breakline. The figure prefix database brings the line style in as a breakline from the start.
Today I opened a file that has previously worked perfectly well, only to find that when I open my surface in Object Viewer and begin to rotate it manually, the triangles making up the surface do not appear. I have the contour lines and border (what is enabled in the Edit Surface Style/Display/Model tab) although the triangles (which should be displayed as well) do not appear. Other surfaces show like they should.
Is there another option other than the Edit Surface Style/Display/Model tab and the VISUALSTYLES command?
with the Genio Exporter. I need to export the surface triangles from my job, but the Genio export dialouge box only gives me the option to export suface boundaries.
When cleaning up a surface, I've always created an Outer Boundary to define the surface limits so that the triangles wouldn't go where I didn't want them.
I'm trying prepping in hopes of sitting for my Autodesk Civil 3d Certification exam at AU. The chapter I'm currently reading through talks about deleting triangles from the surface.
So now I'm wondering about the pros and cons of both methods.
What I would like to achieve is a section band style for bulk earthworks and simple access roads that shows the design level at Grade Breaks only. The problem I am having is that Grade Breaks are being recognised as where the sample line crosses a triangle, not where the the grade actually changes/crosses a feature line.
A have a number of simple platforms, that I have created using an infill from feature lines, usually these platforms are surrounded entirely by feature lines of the same height. As to be expected, Civil 3d creates a few flat triangles, and as a consequence, all of the points where the sample line crosses these show up on my band style. Is there any way to achieve this band style?
When I first installed Photoshop CS6 Extended on my Mac it had a bar running along the top that had the program name in it (Photoshop) with the red, orange and green, close, minimize and maximize buttons in it.
Somehow I have turned this off and the three buttons no longer show. Below is an example picture of the bar I'm wanting to turn on: I have the application frame turned on and they still do not show.

We have a template that opens with extra Prospector items. For example, we have point groups Design Points, Design Points.1, Design Points.2, etc etc. See attached image. We have gone into the template and deleted all of the duplicate items.
When we use the template, it creates all of these duplicate things again and the template has the items again.how to permanently remove these items?
With QP activated, if I select an object (say an alignment or profile view) on the screen and want to pick its GRIP, I have to click the screen FIRST to get focus back to the drawing window (so two clicks). The same applies to the contextual Ribbon, it takes two clicks to 'press' a ribbon button if QP is activated.
I am trying to get an extra column of grid to the left of my sections. Is this a way to do this? Do I need to have white space in this area and not a grid?
