I've been working on drawings (originally last year done in Civil 2013 with Geographic locations included) in 2014 and have found that when switching the Map Aerial on the location is very incorrect.
By using the Remove Location tool and assigning the Coordinate system via the Drawing Properties, the aerial Map is located perfectly...
Why it does this and haven't tried with other drawings in a different project to the one I'm workling on.

How can I screen back an aerial that is being x-referenced into a drawing?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI would like to try and import a .tds and .dat file that should contain an aerial photograph and a location in the real world of that photograph. I would then like to create a map over the photograph with lines, circles, etc. that will also be in the same coordinates as the photograph.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSome background: We have a composite surface of existing surveyed contours as a TIN pasted into existing aerial contours that we received from a client. We used polylines to generate our proposed contours, and then generated a proposed surface from that. We've made a blank surface, pasted in the existing surface, and are trying to paste in our proposed surface... only the existing contours outside of the proposed suface no longer line up correctly once we do.
We've tried applying the method laid out here: [URL] ........ (and the link referenced in the bottom) but are still having trouble getting the surface to work. We've tried offsetting as little as 0.25' and as much as 5' with the feature line draped over the existing surface, but it seemed that the greater the offset, the greater the discrepancy.
Just to make sure we even tried that correctly - should the breaklines that we add be standard or non-destructive? (I've tried it both ways with little success either way, so I don't know if it matters much in this instance, but perhaps for future reference it would work.)
I've attached a screen shot of our surfaces. The pink and green lines are the proposed contours, the white dashed are the existing. The outer red line is offset 0.25'. As I've mentioned, we've tried offsetting various amounts with decreasing success.
I am cleaning up the Hard Drive on my Mac G4. My scanned images are taking a great portion of the 80 Gig drive. I finished clearing my external drive by removing nearly 60 gigs of images by storing them on DVD. I will do the same for the Mac drive.
My trouble is that all my images are stored in TIFF format which takes up enormous space no matter the storage. Since I output images in various sizes, mainly prints, to 30 x 40 inches, I need a master image archived in the best format for such. However, I do not want to fill my drives, or DVD, with large files. Code:
I'm trying to import a .tif image into autocad 2013 this image I clipped in ArcMap 10.1 and reprojected. The size of the image that I can't import is 36.6 mb, but I can import a MrSIDs image size is 611 mb into AutoCAD this is the error message that I get when I try an import the smaller image. "this file is an unknown format or invalid for images"
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using the map connect command to import a geotiff file to NAD83 coordinates. After import, the image displays correctly at the correct location, however my xref manager indicates that the image file location is in my local app folder within the C drive on my computer even though I specified the target base file on our network server. I also noticed the map connect function converts the files to a png file.
Because the image link resides on my computer others cannot view the image when they open the drawing. I don't fully understand how the map connect function works, do I need to use the map insert command if I want the image to be hard linked into the drawing?
I don't seem to find a way to plot to a tiff file. Is there a driver I'm missing? I have and use often "DWG to PDF", but someone has asked us for everything to be in TIFF format.

I need to insert a georeferenced TIF file into 3d.
I tried MAPIIMAGE and the image came in the middle of no where. It does have a tfw file.
The settings of the drawing are set at US feet NAD 29 PA N
I can't get the map workspace to come up.
I have an aerial image in TIFF format. Can I get DEM information from this format? If yes, what should I do?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been using the Web Mapping Server for inserting aerial photography for quite some time now. I recently upgraded to Civil 3d 2010, and now when I attempt to insert an aerial photo I get a message box that says "There was a problem adding data to Map." and the image does not show up. When tried on a machine with full administrator privileges it works just fine.
This is a new problem that does not happen in Civil 3d 2009. Here is a link to the WMS site that I have been using, it is through the Land Management Information Center with the State of Minnesota.

I am working on an alignment sheet for a gas line. I am showing an aerial in my main viewport in plan view. I am only showing line work between match lines nothing pass that except the aerial. However I have two more viewports aside from the main one. I have one to each of the sides of the main viewport to show the aerial image only pass the match lines. My viewports are locked all three of them, yet my image on the viewports to each of the sides of the match lines keep acting up and won't show correctly every time I zoom out or in. They'll be a time that they will but if I zoom out or in after that they will move and not match my main viewport were the line work is at. I only copied the main viewport and resized it to fit in the template pass the match lines. Created a reference point to zoom into my aerial after the match line and it all works until I'm ready to plot and zoom out then it messes up.

When I go to layout view and print preview either to my plotter or my pdf writer I can see the aerial image just fine within the viewport. But once it actually makes a pdf or prints it to the plotter the aerial photos are not there, just the polylines and objects within the drawing.

I just upgraded my entire department to 2013 from 2008. We can no longer import aerial images from Google Earth, publish KMLs or export generic Microstation design files (we have to choose from V7 & V8.)
I can't beleive this "upgrade" actually downgraded our functionality as a department. We can no longer provide sevices to those requiring these file formats and will be forced to discontinue the use of CAD for many of our projects.
I am looking for an inexpensive website that offers USGS maps with aerial photo and CAD linework overlays. I used to be able to purchase these files from Topo Depot but they closed their site down at the end of 2012.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've attached a DWG and a PDF of a 3D drawing where some of the annotation elements are plotting too light. Other elements, like the Title Block are dark enough but I can't figure out what the difference is.
I know this is based on layer properties, but when I compare the lines and text that print dark on FRAME 070 with the lines that print light on frame DIMS-tbl, I don't see any difference in linetype, lineweight, plotstyle, etc.
The PDF was created with the DWG to PDF.pc3 Printer/Plotter, but I have tried several others and they all produce the results.
Working in BRidge and Photoshop CS6:I have 160 color adjusted hi-res CR2 RAW files from my photographer, thought I was getting tifs. I need tifs for my INdesign file. I tried using the photoshop image proecessor through brige by selecting all my images and then saving as TIFFs but I am losing all my color correcting? Is there a way to save these out as tiffs as a group and not one at a time? I also might have lost my color correcting when I copies them all to one folder as well...not sure what is happening except now my great product shots look like crap.

When resizing the canvas for a photo in some but not all saved images the canvas extension color is greyed out. The particular photo is saved as a Tiff. Why is this and how can I solve the problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using PSE 12 as an external editor for Aperture. When I ask to use an external photo editor, Aperture creates a .tiff file in my Aperture folder, launches PSE 12 and tells it to edit that .tiff file. This all works great. When I am done editing in PSE 12, I ask it to save the file and it saves it back to the original Aperture folder with a .tif extension. I can instead say "save as" and then it suggests the file name with a .tif extension. When I correct the extension to .tiff it warns me that I'm going to overwrite the file (exactly what I want!). I say yes and then I find out that PSE did not overwrite the file, but wrote it as a .tif file anyway. I have to go to the folder, delete the .tiff file and rename the .tif file to .tiff and then everything is fine - but what a hassle.
