I have a drawing that was working fine yesterday but today every Civil 3D command takes several minutes (3 or more). I have two very small surfaces and two cross sections. I deleted 3 grading objects.I've run audit and recover, audit found some errors it fixed but recover didn't find any. I have shut down and rebooted. I just tested a similar drawing and it works fine.

This file has been extremely slow and crashes all the time. Is there any way to fix the file? If we proecess our survey data in caice, what is the best way to bring the data over to civil 3d?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm having major slowdown after an AutoCAD drawing import. I have never had this much slowdown in 3ds Max, even with very complex 3D scenes.
I've tried switching graphic renderers with no luck. I'm working from a textbook and cannot proceed without this step.
I've attached a screenshot.
i have a test drawing attached with layout 1 and layout 2.
from model to layout 1 takes 2-3 seconds on my crappy computer, from model to layout 2 takes 8-10 seconds on the same crappy computer.
this sample i attached has a xref binded. which result is the same 3 and 8 seconds respectively.
you may think this is not a big deal. but layout 1 will take 10 seconds to to switch to if you have 5 xref while layout 2 will take a minute.
i did my research and haven't find the difference in variables between the two paperspace layouts.
tried all the variables made no difference:
psltscale, msltscale, celtscale, savefidelity, etc.
also set both viewoprts to undefined same thing.
the only difference is "1" is created from a blank autocad template by selecting "metric - no template", and "2" is imported from a civil 3d dwg after done a plan/profile production and that thing created that layout.
is there a tool to compare all variables between 2 layouts and find the differences? i am certain the problem lie within system variables.

Quick one on Dynamic blocks.... we are using Dynamic blocks more and more as a company, we are finding that when in a drawing which contains lots of dynamic blocks, then go into Dynamic Block Editor - amend the block - Then when closing the block Editor to get back into the drawing the drawing goes really slow untill we close it down and restart it.
Is there a setting we need to change OR is there something obvious that we are missing. i.e should we be minimizing the amount of dynamic blocks in our drawings or uncomplicate them?
im currently using Autocad 2013 and it is running painfully slow when drawing lines and copying lines and objects... my experience on autocad is very minimal and how to speed things up a bit. also icons appear next to lines when i join 2 or more line, one for each join, but i suspect they may also be causing my drawing to lag.
View 4 Replies View RelatedOn Civil3D 2007, at least on my machine, the mouse seems to move slowly when it is over the drawing space, but moves at normal speeds when over menu or toolbar items and when in other applications. It's almost as if the "resolution" of the mouse changes as soon as it is over the drawing area in Civil3D. The result is that the mouse/pointer falls behind a little bit when you move it, almost like it does when you use a remote computer over a slow network connection. This makes it difficult to have precise mouse movements.
I should also mention that I don't have this problem in any other applications, including Land Desktop 2006. Some hardware specifics: Dell, P4-HT 3.0GHz, XPpro machine, 2 gig of RAM, RADEON X600 256MB video card, single monitor, Logitech Mx500 mouse, all updates current.
my brush drawing slowly. I am retouching an 8x10" 300dpi 8 bit image and using a soft brush at 15% opacity. It could take 5 or 10 seconds for the brush to finish drawing a 6 inch long soft line. There is a delay and I cant do anything else till it finishes. I Have Photoshop CS4 running on Windows XP on a 3 gig machine... with 4 gigs of RAM. I am using 55% memory for the allocation with 20 histroy states and 4 for the cache. I have 1.6 Gigs of available memory and 37 gigs free in a separate scratch disk. I have a Radeon 9800 dual card with 125 megs onboard memory. Do I need to reset preferences because of something funny? My system seerms to be fast enough...but I may need a new video card possibly...I dont have GL2 enabled because its grayed out. My version of CS3 works fine.
View 7 Replies View RelatedFor whatever reason, working with MrSids aerials with Civil 3D 2012 & 2013 is really slow these days. Three of us CAD techs have Dell Precision T3500 PC's with 24 GB of RAM with Windows 7. I worked with the same aerials 4 years ago using ust 4 GB of RAM with Windows XP. Is there a better type of aerial technology to work with rather than the MrSid aerials? Should we try to get the County to purchase another type of aerial technology to more easily depict the County so we can more quickly produce aerial roadways with stationed alignments..

I have a good pc (wirth a superb nvidia) (I have no problems with any other software or 3D actions)
First , I have to wait almost 30 seconds before have the 3D mouse movements avalaible.Â
Second, every mouse move ( to change the point or view, etc ) means 3 seconds of delay.
 The model is little , 400 x 600 meters. (It is an example from mastering c3d) .
Recently (In the past 6 months) I have noticed that Sheet Set Manager is very slow when trying to do anything. It takes at least 45 seconds for a box to appear when right clicking on SSM to publish or change properties. Every user in our office has the same problem. I am not sure if this is a network problem or if it is a problem with C3D ?Â

why is it that simple commands in paperspace like editing text/mtext, moving a single line or erasing objects so slow. it seems like it takes way to long to do simple editing. Makes me what to go back to model space sheet set up. I already did the changes to settings that someone posed "NEW Autocad Performance Tips". I notice a small performance enhancement but still very slow compared to paper space. this happened in files with one layout tab or 10.

I have noticed while running both Civil 3D 2011, and AutoCAD 2011, that the software tends to "not respond" pretty frequently. It also seems to lag every once in a while when scrolling. Not sure if maybe there is something else I need to do to optimize my computer to be able to handle the civil 3D software better? I would think the triple core processor and 8 gigs of ram would be enough, but maybe not.
I have a pipe network that has labels for structures and pipes. To be able to read the information better, I click on a label and try to move by the grip. The problem is that it freezes the cursor for approximately 10 seconds before I can move it to grip the label and relocate it to another place. Did I miss any setting. Since this is slowing me down in plan production.

I downloaded a shape file from URL....that contains all of the streets in a vicinity. All of the linework has object data attached that contains street names. I have hundreds of streets shown, but i only want to show the name of a few of the streets. right now i am coping the name out of the properties and pasting it into a mtext. I know how to query the drawing and attach the name to all of the streets, but it creates way to many to delete.
How i can just pick the streets i would like to label and label just those street?
I have Autocad Civil 3d 2011 and recently the software was corrupted so our IT guy reinstalled everything. Now when I attempt to attach a PDF I get an error box that reads
This file cannot be opened.
The problem can be caused by several things:
-Â The data in the file is corrupted
-Â Â The file is an earlier format that is no longer supported
-Â Â The file format is not supported
Try to obtain a better copy of the file, recreate the file using
different settings, or convert the file to a supported file format.
Now before the reinstall, I never had an issue...never saw this message before and have attached hundreds of PDFs to drawing. The only thing I will add is around the time of the reinstall, I also had installed NITRO PDF software. I believe this installation came after the problems started...just cant remember, so I wanted to throw that out just in case.

i've got a drawing that locks up when switching from model space to paper space, and i've determined it's the contours causing it. i guess during regen it can't work with the contours. if i freeze the contours it doesn't happen.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create stakeout on grid in drawing wherein I wish to give details of X,Y coordinates along with Z (which will be volume comparison surface). I wish to display this information at every 5m interval on drawing. This can be useful for contractor for stakeout on site.
I tried using command thru "Points - Create Points, Suafec - On Grid" I did everything as directed on screen. However no information is getting displayed on screen. I am bit confused. I have made sure no layers are frozen and point style is also correct (i.e. it is not none). Still I don't see any information on screen.
