AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Using STB Rather Than CTB?
Oct 26, 2012
I've begun creating my drawing template with all my layers and each layer has a plot style attached to it. The line weight is set to default. I am doing a test plot with a drawing that I have to see what it looks like. The pen table is set to my .stb table but when I go to preview, my linework doesn't show up.
I have checked my setting for my layers to make sure that they are set to plot.
In my plot dialog box, if I uncheck "Plot with plot styles" I can see the linework but it doesn't plot right (plots in color). Unchecking "plot object lineweights" doesn't do anything either. What am I missing?

I imported Google earth surface (at eye alt 600m) to civil 3d 2012 and created an alignment of length 181m.
When I exported same alignment to Google earth , it showed the length as 190m ( the difference increases with increase in length of alignment) And also the profile view of the alignment in the Civil D & Google earth varies.

I want to create a Layer Filter that excludes both Civil Layers and Xrefs.
I have created one that excludes Civil objects (Excel Civil.jpg) but when I add a filter for excluding xrefs as well the Civil objects appear in the filter again indeed all the layers are included again (Excel Xref.jpg) if I invert the filter nothing is displayed.

I am trying to work on a previous file in my office, and when it opens on mycomputer, it does not display as it should.
In general, the purpose of the project is to reinstate the side slopes of a road abutting a river. Cut & fill sections have been generated on 20m station increments along the road corridor/surfaces in order to calulate cut and fill as well as to reference the design to flood levels.
When I open the file, all of these sections (and there are alot) have relocated themselves to various locations in model space, none of which are aligned with the viewports that are being used for printing.
Could it be software and/or hardware incompatibility with the computer they were originally created on? (I believe it was created with C3D 2010, or C3D 2011 - I am currently running 2012)

Just curious as to whether people use much colour in their production drawings, particularly for hatches...?
Working for Local Government, we tend to utilise colour hatches to show all kinds of information.
Generally, we have found that colour hatches are a good way to clearly show different areas and materials such as pavements, paths, landscape areas etc. Hatches can then be used to quickly ascertain areas for estimation and our construction team like them too as the plans tend to be easier to read.
The usual arguments about reproduction of plans and slowing down of computers doesn't seem to be an issue for us. Most photocopiers are in colour now anyway and we just make sure that even in black & white the plans are readable.
The way that Civil 3D deals with hatching doesn't seem to slow things down for us either.
Currently using Civil 3D 2013 & 2014 SP1

Right now, the only way I know of being able to see Civil grading objects (surface contours, spot elevations, slopes, etc) while using plain vanilla AutoCAD is to explode everything and export to a lower version.
I'm trying out a trial of AutoCAD 2013 to test things, and my Civil drawing shows up as boxes/text when xrefed into another drawing without doing the task above.
I'm looking for a more efficient way to see grading using AutoCAD (not Civil). Civil is expensive, and I'd like to downgrade the drafters who don't know how to use the Civil functions (and never will), but still need grading to show as a dynamic xref in the background of the drawings they're working on. Problem is, if I have to explode and export my drawing every time I want to update the grading xref in their drawing, it wastes more time than I'd like.
Is this the only way and I have to live with it, or am is there an easier way that I haven't dug up yet? I know I'm not an expert at Civil, so I may be going about this all wrong.

Is there a way to search for a text style in a civil style? I have a text style that our company is trying to get rid of and I would very much like to not have to go through our 72 company styles.

How R is calculated in the C3D?
I’m wondering regarding the equation used to calculate the radius of the circular curve. Is it the one attached? How the horizontal curve is updated as the design speed is changed?Ja

To my knowledge this file has not been renamed and definitely not been deleted...Has been moved, but does that matter? The attached image is the error i get when trying to load .cuix as a partial in CUI dialogue box. I cannot load from CUILOAD, either.
I have verified that another cui of the same name is not already loaded.

Why does Exporting to DXF (any version other than 2013) fail, every single time?
First, we always get this error during the save. The save appears to finish OK in spite of the error.
But when you try to open the DXF using DWG Trueview, we get this error.
If we export out to 2013 DXF, the resulting file can be opened, but this doesn't do us much good.
(using C3D 2013 with latest SP)

I have been trying to import/export information to create a flood map using hec ras. I succesfully (not without some pain), imported the geometric data into HEC RAS and did my analysis. I create the .sdf and try to import it to Civil 3D, but, while it appears to have imported succesfully, it does not show the water lines.
As a matter of fact, CIVIL3D indicates at some point that the minimim and maximum elevations are both 0.00m.
I checked the .sdf file, which I attach, and it looks fine to me. It has the information of the water level as it should.

I performed an analysis on a system, but when I play the video some of the pipe segments the water line jumps back and forth angling in different directions. Some of the pipes get full and then the water line just drops down to the bottom. I also cannot get the pipes to drain at the end, I tried running the analysis for a long time span and it just sits at the point that it wants.

when I created a Top surface, C3D showed me otherwise. I need a gap at an intersection. In the attached DWG the intersection corridor has been removed from view by isolate.
I used 2 seperate baselines to force the road corridor to have a gap at the intersection.
Looked OK .. except ..later .. when I created a Top surface, only the first baseline is used to create the surface, the second baseline is skipped : (
I obviously did not make a gap correctly. What is the correct way? Or.. is there no way .. must the designer create multiple seperate corridors when the road has gaps?

When I use this method needMaintainEdge does not make any difference. The edges are never maintained. However this works when using the command in Civil 3D. Is this a bug?

I'm about ready to put together a large job that is going to have a lot of sheets. Since most of my jobs are one sheet plans, this is out of my comfort zone. I usually just have a scaled cover sheet/border that I drop into model space and put whatever I need into it there and then print it. This job has several mini jobs in one huge model space. I think It's going to be better for me to actually use paper space as its intended this time. I'm using 2010. Just a skeleton of an order of operations, so at least I have something to search for detailed instructions.

I am looping through the civilapplication.activedocument's alignmentIDs collection and looking to see if the name of the alignment is the one I want.
Is there a more direct way, where I could use the name like
doc.GetAlignmentId("somename")?
maybe GetAlignmentIds() is only way to access the align collection though,

Currently I have to dxfin a converted .job file to get my survey feature text and field comments into my drawing.
Question #1 How do I get rid of the point node associated with the points that have comments? All I want is the text, no nodes.
Question #2 What layer does the block come in on?
Question #3 Do I need to merge the block to my drawing?
Questoin #4 How do I manipulate the text? Can I create styles for it? Becasue it looks horrible as a .dxf block.

Is there anyway to turn the yellow marker off?

I am not a programmer and can not just load this sample as it is a .cs file. How would I go about using the code already provided to create a plugin into my AutoCAD to be able to use this command?

I have been using SSA (and formerly Stormnet) for quite some time. However, this has been mainly for onsite sizing of storm drains, detention, etc.
I have a new project where I need to supply a 'flood study' for the effect of a culvert we are installing across a stream. To me I can accurately model this in SSA with the irregular channels, junctions, etc. I have calculated the peak 100 year flow using Andersons method and plan on adding this into an upstream node as an 'External Inflow'.
The local reviewer prefers HEC RAS due to his familiarity with it, of course. Having not used HEC RAS before I have been reading the manual and it seems to me that SSA would just as accurately model the flood.
1. I assume that to find the effect of the peak 100 year flow, HEC RAS would use a Steady State Flow analysis with this peak flow. I believe SSA would accomplish this same task using my calculated peak Q as an 'External Inflow' in the most upstream node (note, I am only modeling a few hundred feet of channel.)
2. It is easy enough to plot HGL profiles, but I can't think of a way where I would be able to plot/show the flood depth of water in my irregular channel cross sections I would input. I will instead print out the defined cross section from the dialogue box and manually draw in the water elevation. It would just be nice if it was automatic.
3. Any other general input as to why I may want to use HEC RAS instead of SSA? It just seems like a time sink for me to get up to speed on HEC RAS if I can accomplish the same in SSA.
