AutoCAD Civil 3D :: New Layer Defaults Back To Original Color
May 15, 2012
Every time I create a new layer, name it, asign a color, linetype, etc...it defaults back to the original color, making me set it twice. Am I missing a setting somewhere?
Is there a way to revert back to the original colors of an xref besides having to reattach the xref and purging the DWG.
I always change the colors of the projects Existing site/utilty XREF to color 252 to shade it back to have the proposed show up darker. But I try to select all layers to change the colors back to what they were before and the box to set color by layer is not available.
I have quite a few alignments to create and would rather not have to set the layer and conversion options for each. I'd like all to be on the same layer (that is already defined in the drawing) and to change the conversion options both off. I've been looking through the settings table in TS, but haven't found anywhere to change the default layer and conversion option states. Currently, the create alignment from objects defaults are to have alignments on independent layers (Model-Alignment*, where * adds the alignment name as a suffix to the layer name) and both conversion options are on.
Some what new to Civil 3D, so I hope I explain this correctly..
I imported points with linework and then needed to move them slightly. I unlocked the points and moved them with no problems, but I then went to re-process linework which moves the points back to their original location. I have tried relocking the points first before re-processing linework, but then it appears that nothing has happened.
This morning line width in the Object Properties flyout were in points. This afternoon they are in mm. Where I can change it back to Points.
I've had this happen before and I understand it is probably something I'm doing but it is frustrating that these options are not obvious.
Question #2 - Is there some way to reset all possible settings/options/configurations back to the original defaults? I'd like to go back to the way things were when I first installed X3.
When I am trying to label an object, surface slope, elevation or lot line distance my text reverts back to layer 0. I have checked the Label style composser and have everything that I see set to the layer I want it on. When creating the label I am even physically on the proper layer but when I make the label it still goes to 0.
I encounter a problem, that i mistakenly change one block in a drawing(which i dont remember now) but it effects all the drawings which are using the same block and changed all of them.
Is it possible to change it all back to original. I dont remember how i did it in first place.
We have an alignment curve table and the data text, first data entry (curve number) is appearing as color by layer (magenta), when all colors are set as explicit colors by element in table style under Display tab. How do I control the color of the first entry to be color by element instead of by layer?
Set the Trace Bitmap so that the outline color defaults to the same as the fill color on the resulting curves? Currently, resulting curves have to be edited one color at a time to give them hairline outlines with the same color as the fill. It's mighty tedious for complex vector art.
I recently change the volume of a part thinking that it would change the actually size of it. It didn't effect the size at all and now I don't know what the actual volume of the part is anymore. How do I find out the part's actual volume?
I have a customized button to draw an ‘ac-arrow’. I created a lisp to create the layer “G-ANNO-LEDR”
if the layer name is not found. The advanced part I would like is:
Current layer: E-ANNO-WIRE
Ac-Arrow Leader: G-ANNO-LEDR
OPTION 1:
If, say I am on current layer “E-ANNO-WIRE” and need to draw my “ac-arrow” leader, and continue working
on the original layer “E-ANN-WIRE” (and have the leader be drawn [remain] on the layer “G-ANNO-WIRE”).
With this option, I have the block “ac-arrow” imbedded in my template drawing file to have the block at hand.
With this option, the layer “G-ANNO-LEDR” will be created IF it is not on the drawing.
OPTION 2:
- Currently be on layer “E-ANNO-WIRE”
- Bring in the block “ac-arrow” from my block library “L:AutoCADSymbols”
- Draw the “ac-arrow” leader which will be on layer “G-ANNO-LEDR” (this layer created IF it is not
on the current drawing).
- After the leader is drawn’
- Be put back to the layer I was, “E-ANNO-WIRE”, and continue working.
The OPTION 2 is what I would really like to have. A while back, I happen to see one like OPTION 2, but I cannot
find it anymore on the users groups. I have been searching for a while now.
Currently, I use the button in my customized toolbar (see image) and have to have the “ac-arrow” block in my drawing and have its layer created in the drawing.
In the attached file there are two custom iProperties that cannot be perminantly updated nor deleted. The iProperties are "size" and "purch_qty". These iProperties were created and set using a custom macro but they are of course accessable via the standard iProperties dialog. I can change the values for these particular iProperties but as soon as I save the file they revert back to their original values. Same goes for trying to delete them. All other iProperties, custom and otherwise, seem to behave normally.
The sketch in this file originated with a 2D DXF file for a vendor supplied aluminum extrusion quite a few years back. The original file has been copied (save-as...) to about 20 different files over the years. The iProperties in question were added years after most of the files were created, Each file is exibiting the same problem. These files are used in a LOT of assemblies. The thought of recreating all these files from scratch and updating the assemblies is not very inviting.
I opened up a file to use the same size to make another project...i saved the project instead of saving as to save the project as a different document. therefore the old project i made on that document disappeared i was hoping that there was a history panel or something i can go back to what the document was when i opened it..
I still have the document opened - never closed it since i opened it to do some other project.
- In photoshop i can just to history and clikc on the thumbnail to reset everything as it was before. I don't want to loose my layers from that older project.
I wanted to create a new calander for 2014, so I created a new catalog and started to import 25 images which were in my library in various folders. once I was done with the selections I could see that there are several catalogs set up from each folder of origin. if I click on library to get out of the "catalog" mode nothing happens. I can no longer see any of my library folders on the left panel, unless I try to import more images.
How do I delete or cancel this request to add a catalog and get back to my original library? also, in hind sight, I believe I wanted to add a "collection". please confirm the difference between a collection, smart collection and a catalog.
Is there a way to convert a pattern back to it's original form? I know that you can edit a pattern, once it has been created, but what about reverting back to the starting point?
I have a student who created a rather complex drawing and then converted it to a pattern, the design does not work well, because it is too elaborate, he has three different art pieces. A record, a jukebox and a piano. These are all great illustrations on their own, but do not make a good pattern. Is there a way to undo the pattern?
I prefer to use the keyboard shortcut CTRL+< for step backwards and SHIFT CTRL+> for step forwards in the Application Menus > Edit. After changing to these shortcuts I save them but each time I restart Photo-show they have changed back to their original settings. How can I stop this happening?
I imported 900 RAW images from my desktop into Lightroom, edited them, renamed the filename, and exported them into JPGs. Since I no longer needed the RAW images on my desktop I moved them over to an external hard drive. So now the images are still visible in my Lightroom catalog, but there is no photo to back it up since I moved the original files to the external hard drive. After realizing that I exported the images at 150 dpi instead of 300 dpi I need to re-export the images from lightroon at the proper resolution. But since I moved the originals to the external hard drive there is no photo to back it up in lightroom anymore. So I went to locate the files by clicking on the "?" but since I renamed the file when I exported them, the original filename on the external hard drive is now different from the filename in the catalog. Is the only solution to locate the file one by one? Is there any way I can do them all at once even though the original filename is different from the filename in my lightoom catalog? The original filename is still listed in the metadata, but since the originals are missing it can't change it back.
I am trying to change settings in my template so that some of the Edit operations are turned OFF by default in newly created surfaces. Right now all of these options are turned on for each new surface. The command settings for CreateSurface allows me to control the build options for new surfaces, but I cannot find anything for edits.
I am working in Civil 3d 2012. Right now, we have about 5-6 different people using this software in the office. Each person has their own likes/dislikes for layer colors (also for their display color). BUT we all want to plot with the same lineweights.
What happens is the surveyor creates the drawing and existing layers (with a template). The engineer then uses the same drawing to design and create contours. The drafter then uses the same drawing to clean things up for final printing. So we have roughly 3 people using the same drawing. But the surveyor uses a black display and anything that is blue doesn't show up well, so they have it on one the lightest lineweights. I (the drafter) use a gray display have have no problem with blue so it's one of my darker lineweights.
What I'm hoping to do is create some kind of a scheme that would allow the user to simply change the color scheme (on screen) to match their likings. Similar to the User Interface. For instance in User 1 scheme, Color 8 = Blue. Then we can have multiple plot tables that would correspond to the colors.
I have a file where the layer manager does not seam to be contorling the bylayer color settings. When I change the color in the layer manager everything seams to work fine. But when I try to creat objects on this layer they we not use the color that I set. They use the original color that the layer was set to. In the ribbon the color default is set to by layer. One interesting thing is that when I pull down the layer menu in the ribbon it will show the old color.
In fact the work around is to change the layer color from this menu and not the layer manager. This is the only drawing I have that exhibits this behavior. Any system variable that would cause this or is this just a coruption of this file. (I ran audit, closed autcad and restarted, verified that all objects are set to manage colors bylayer, default ribbon palets are set to bylayer).
I have a drawing with polylines that are set to color 6 in model space and are also set to color bylayer.
When I go to my layout and click inside my viewport and pull up layer manager and change the viewport color for that layer to color 12, only parts of the polylines change to the color 12 while other parts remain color 6.
If while I'm in the viewport I change the model color as well to color 12, then all the polylines turn to color 12.This is a problem though, because in some layouts I what that layer to be color 6, and in others I want it to be color 12, or 4 or 5 or whatever.
I could not match this situation even if I wanted to where you draw a line, and half of it is one color while the other half is another color.why the viewport color overrides are behaving like this.
After hours of work, working on an Aircraft Repaint, I somehow managed to move the template so that all of the lines (in this case the 'livery lines') became out of 'sync' In other words the layers became out of line. Went to load it into my editor and every thing was all over the place
The Q is...is there a quick way to get the template/Canvas or whatever to revert back to it's original state. i.e. everything within there parameters?
Is there any way to dig through the discreet folders and possible find the new cursor icon and replace it with the old one? I found a flame artist who could change his batch and action nodes, If he could do this it shouldn't be to hard to change just the cursor, right?
