AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Import ASCII File Into Drawing
Nov 4, 2013
I'm having problems importing points into Civil 3D 2012.I'm trying to import an ASCII file into the drawing.Files formats are P,N,E,Z,D in ASCII file and the same format is selected when I try importing.
The ASCII file has well over a 1000 points but when I import the points only the first twenty or so points import to the drawing. This seems not to be limited to this drawing.I tried to import points to a different drawing and the same thing happened.
Up to this point I have not had trouble importing points into other various drawings. Is there a button or setting that may have changed that is preventing full importation of the points?
I'm relatively new to AutCAD map 3d but I've used arcGIS a while back.
I have existing roads, towns etc data that are already set to UTM 17. I want to import ascii point coordinates (from a comma delimited file) into the file. I can import the ascii coordinates as points fine (easting and northing), however the points come in as the absolute coordinates rather than geometric coordinates. I already set the files for right geographic projections. Beyond manually inputing the coordinates into the coordinate tracker, is there a way to import the coordinates form the file set for the geometric coordinates?
I am battling is bringing in LiDAR files from ArcGIS. I have tried TXT and ASC, and they both seem to only maintain the elevation to the nearest foot, as you can see in the attached image.
What is strange, is that when the file is brought back into GIS, this issue is a problem. Is there a setting for reducing the amount of units when importing data? The text file as I shared has data to the thousandth.
I import a csv file into my drawing and all the points and figures get drawn correct and on the correct layers.
But I end up getting some extra things also:
1. a little white circle comes in from the marker styles. it comes in on layer V-SURV-NTWK
2. i also get an extra white line that comes in on layer 0.
I have stopped these things from happening now by hitting the light bulb for the "basic" Marker Style and the "basic" Feature Line Styles. But i would really like to know what the Marker Style and Feature Line Styles are and what they are there for.
I have a .PTS file (an ASCII file with XYZ coordinate data + two additional sets of info per point). Is there any way to bring this into AutoCAD natively?
I am trying to import points from drawing, but I cant select any of the points and i can not find any information out there about how to import them. How to import from a drawing?
How do I import Description Keys from another drawing. I tried exporting XLM file but I must be missing something. I don't understand what the general menu is. I was able to export but not sure what is next.
I've exported in all supported vector file formats, and it seem that only SVGsupports object name (and data)... however, I can't use SVG at the moment.
Is there a way to export all objects using a macro?I need in plain ascii: layer and object names, and maybe object data.
I'm looking for a simple format, no transform matrices (as in SVG).
I am trying to import a DGM file into Civil 3D.I do this by adding a DGM file to a surface through prospector>surfaces>surface>definition>dgm files,
however the problem I am having is that it defaults to DEM file types which through research I have found out is our american counterparts version of the DGM.
After analyzing a storm system in SSA or Storm Sewers I’m exporting it to a .stm file. When importing to CAD it recognizes the existing pipe network and asks to update it which works but it adds two horizontal purple lines in the profile which are attached to one of the pipes in the profile. If you erase the purple lines it erases the pipe with it.
Things I tried already with no success:
-Erase profile and re-create it -Erase alignment and re-create it -Erase all pipes before import (so it would import as new, not update) -Try LandXML for export/import (this wouldn’t update pipes, it just brought in a whole new network and messed up all the styles/parts)
I executed Edit in Storm Sewers to work on the Pipe Network in Civil 3D. I made some changes in Storm Sewers, now I want to Import back to Civil 3D.
Nothing is happening in Civil 3D when I try to Import with either of the choices, picking Overwrite or to Create a new pipe network. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
I have attached the drawing file and the STM file.
AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 - How do I set it up so that when I import points from a .txt file, point no., elev, and desc are displayed in the drawing next to the point node?
I have a point file with <null> elevations. Somehow it won't let me import this .txt file (using pnezd comma delimited) into my .dwg. If I have elevations I have no problems. We tried creating a pned (comma delimited) and the <null> having an unused column and it didn't work.
I had someone send me a .vwx file that I need to convert/import into AutoCAD3D 2010. The File/Import menu does not have an option for this type of file. They also sent a .dwg file but I expect I should be able to import the .vwx into any .dwg file.
I am attempting to import a shape file in Civil 3D 2014 and get an FDO error (see attached). I have performed this task nearly everyday for an entire year in 2012 with the same file, method, etc. I change my workspace to 'Planning and Analysis", select 'Map Import' and select my shape file...error!
I have a text file in PNEZD where D is XYZ. I have a description key for XYZ. I am importing this file into survey. When I import this file the points do not take the style of the description key, they take a default style from somewhere. What trick am I missing so that when I import points into survey they use the description key and therefore have the correct style.

At the end of the day yesterday our server crashed while I was working on a drawing and today when I tried to open the drawing I got the message 'Drawing File is Not Valid'. Is there a way to recover the drawing? I tried the recover command but I got the same message. i tried converting the BAK file and CAD did not respond.
