Using Building Design Suite Ultimate 2014
i am using autocad civil 3d 2013 for modelling water pipes ,unfortauntley it can't do hydraulic calculation and if you do this calculation in any other program you won't be able to visual this information in section view ,
i wonder if autocad map 3d can do this in any way
I am drawing hydraulic steel pipes using the 3d sketch command. I enter in the points representing the change of direction of the center line of the pipe as if it had no bend radii.
The points are entered in using absolute X,Y,Z coordinates, choosing one end of the pipe as 0,0,0.
I then join the points using the line command. I then put the bend radii on using the bend command.
I then draw a 2d sketch of the 2 circles representing the id , od of the pipe on a normal plane at the start point 0,0,0
I then sweep the 2D sketch along the path of the 3D sketch. I then place axes at the center of each straight portion of pipe . I then place points the intersection points of consecutive axes to replicate the original setting out points (3D x,y,z coordinates) that I used in the 3D sketch.
Then I create my idw with 3 orthographic views (showing the relevant axes as a symbols in each view, an isometric view and a coordinate table showing the x,y,z coordinates of each labelled change of direction. I then pull the pipe into an assembly and put the fittings on each end.
This is another IDW showing the fittings and a parts list. I have inventor suite 2012, along with tube and pipe. However I have never tried it.I don't know how it works, maybe it would be better to use that?
Another question on the measuring of pipes. If a sample is made and then backdraughting needs to be done how do you measure it.
Method used before I arrived was measuring lengths and angles. Highly inaccurate. Never worked. Pipes never drawn. Ended up being photographed only, which was not good enough to make spare parts for service technicians in the field, they had to go out to measure on site and make up on site.
I introduced measuring the change of direction vertices of the centreline of the pipe as if there was not bend radius.
More accurate, but highly difficult to measure. Use steel rules and squares. Never right the first time. Always have to check putting the pipe on top of a full scale drawing.
Tried to improve method of measurement by printing out a A0 piece of graph paper and using that as the background to lay the pipe on. Better/easier and more accurate again, but still not spot on, have to check and adjust using the pipe on top of a full scale plot.
Short of buying some type of expensive 3D measuring machine, which in our case would not warrant the cost as we do not do this type of drawing 100 per cent of our time, not even 30 per cent, what is the best method of measuring pipes accurately.
We are being requested by more municipalities to perform a hydraulic analysis on the water system before we can extend water to the site. This is very crude doing it by hand. I have seen different softwares available that run inside of Civil 3D that will perform the hydraulic analysis. How others were performing hydraulic analysis.

I know in microstation you can fence a volume surface and it will tell you the volume for that area. Is there a function in civil 3d that works like this. I know I can break it up manually and create new surfaces, I am looking for a time saving appoarch and trying to minimize file size.

how to calc dirt quantities in Civil 3D. Not just on roads, but say you have a small mountain of dirt that needs to be hauled away, and the contractor asks if you can quickly tell him how much dirt is there. And subgrade quantities for pads. Things like that.
First off, I'd need to learn the correct terminology. Knowing what to call stuff can at least make you sound less stupid when you ask a question.

In hydrographs, SCS method, the basin slope is needed for the the calculation of the time of concentration. What is the method for the calculation for the basin slope ? If we have a 3D surface is there a tool in autocad to calculate that automatically?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a volume in my CAD file described by 3D Faces. Is there anyway to know what is the volume of this volume -that represents an open pit-?
Every time that I do a volume I do by the comparison of 2 surfaces but this is not the case now.
I've recently started working with Civil2012/2013 (bit the bullet you might say).
I attended a course on civil about a year ago but it didn't cover all the bases.
My question: stripping calculation, is there a way fro civil to perform it automatically?
One way to calculate stripping (manually) is after i have all the tin volume surfaces, is to show the fill areas in the volume tables and then do the calculation myself.
I am highlighting an area and at the last point where I press eneter expecting an area calculation, I get this message "specify next point or [A/L/U]; I don't want that I want the area

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhat do the data in the summary of volume calculation mean? In LDD, typically the minimum and maximum elevations are within the range of elevations where the volume is being analyzed. In my current vol calc summary it shows something that really makes me frown, e.g, min elev of -26.00 and max elev of 752. I have checked all the proposed elevations and the minimum is 720.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been able to publish and then import valves, flange adaptors etc. with no problem, but if I create a flanged (metric) pipe using the Content Catalog Editor and then draw the pipe in C3D it shows blank ends, no flanges. I've split the pipe in the drawing to see if that forces flanges to appear, but nothing.
Do I need to create the flanges seperately and then add them to the end of pipes?

I am modelling a sewer pipe network in SSA. At some stages we use varies pipe materials with different wall thicknesses. So I want to know how can I assign inner diameter of pipes in SSA so I just deduct wall thickness from pipe diameter and then assign it to the pipe. Or is there any possibility to make a pipe list with specific properties like part builder in civil3d?

What the best way to draw multiple parallel pipes that cross a corridor. In my example I have a track with 4 pipes crossing the track corridor on slightly different alignments (from perpendicular to skewed). I have drawn the pipes on as individual pipes under the same network.
However I cannot get them all to display on the profile. I have tried "Draw Parts in Profile" but it seems to bring up only 1 pipe. managing multiple pipes.
I have two pipe networks and two profile views, one for storm and another for sanitary. I would like to show the crossing pipes on each of the profile views. When I select the profile view, add a pipe and change the style to crossing the style is change to crossing on the other profile view (ex. on sanitary profile view I set storm pipe 3 to crossing style, on the storm profile pipe 3 changes to crossing style and does not display). Isn't there a way to display the styles for pipes different in each profile view?
