Feb 20, 2013Every Time I open C3D I have to open my drawings.
In addition I have always an empty and irritating empty "drawing1" ....
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Alignment Not Shown In Prospector Tab
Dec 21, 2013I created a miscellaneous alignment and everything came out exactly how I wanted it to show. But I do not see this alignment in my prospector tab. I see the other centerline alignments, but when I click on Miscellaneous Alignments I do not see my alignment. It does not even have a plus box to expand. I have saved my drawing a couple times and still nothing.
I even changed it from miscellaneous to offset just to see if that had any relation to the issue, but it still does not come up in the prospector tab.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Vault Can't Be Used Inside Prospector
Feb 21, 2013I encounter problems to organize my work. I don't understand some actual C3D behaviors. Every time I open C3D I have :
- An empty drawing1 I always have to delete .... ???????????
- Automatic last survey working folder open. Ok, it is well.
- All the drawing templates I need, Ok . it is well.
I have to open manually my drawing / drawings. In case I have to open more than 1 file (and they have to be placed at the same folder....), C3D open all of them (regardless of whether it be neccesary....) . So I have to wait and see how flies fly ..It seems that Vault can be a solution. Basic Vault can't be used inside prospector (This is what C3D says...)
Imagine I'm working with 3 or 4 projects. Every time I have to work with one of them, have I to do a stupid work (open and set folders) that can be produce errors and problems ? I have to create a VBA dialog to make this work.....
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Profile Not Found In Prospector
Jul 30, 2013i created a profile by layout in an existing profile view and it will not show up in prospector view. I also cannot turn the profile off in the profile view because it's not in the profile list when i go to profile view properties. I have multiple profiles, profile views, alignments etc. I cannot find it anywhere in toolspace, but i can select in model space and edit.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Importing Points Under Prospector Or Survey Tab
Apr 12, 2012I was wondering what is the difference between importing points under the Prospector tab versus importing points under the Suvey tab? And how either of the two methods relate to using Data Shortcut?
I would like to create a survey topo drawing that contains points and surface information which other Design drawings that are attached to the Data Shortcut project can access but not be able to make any changes to the original points and existing surface information.

May 18, 2012I have an existing drawing that I have picked cogo points for survey layout about 3 weeks ago. Now when I open the drawing the points show up on the screen, but they are not in the prospector. Where did they go? What do I need to do to get them back in the prospector?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Template That Opens With Extra Prospector Items
Mar 1, 2012We have a template that opens with extra Prospector items. For example, we have point groups Design Points, Design Points.1, Design Points.2, etc etc. See attached image. We have gone into the template and deleted all of the duplicate items.
When we use the template, it creates all of these duplicate things again and the template has the items again.how to permanently remove these items?

Feb 2, 2011After working in civil 3d for a while they will disappear. have to close toolspace and open again. have sp1 installed already.
See picture for detail. as you can see only toolbox is left. and when i select toolbox from general menu. the whole toolspace will shut down.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Prospector And Settings Are Locked/ Not Expandable In Toolspace
Jul 13, 2012I dragged a surface style from another drawing into the drawing I am having issues with. The Issue is that after inserting the style the Prospector and Settings are not expandable. The Prospector check box is grayed out and there are dots in front of the Settings tab.
Basically I can't expand either the Prospector or the Setting to edit surfaces, alignments, styles, etc.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Profile Data Shortcuts Missing From Prospector
Feb 21, 2011I have a drawing that contains an alignment and 2 profiles (existing and proposed). Call this File A.
I created data shortcuts for these 3 objects and reference them in many drawings.
Last week File A was having some problems, it was inexplicably large and seemed to have some corruption I couldn't fix. So I created a new drawing, call it File B, and promoted the alignment and profiles into it.
I used Data Shortcut Editor to point the data shortcuts to File B. In drawings that already referenced these objects they look like the they are coming through just fine.
The problem is that I can't see the profiles listed in the Data Shortcuts section of prospector. The shortcuts folder selected is correct, the xml file is there, it points to File B. The alignment is listed and I can create that reference in a new drawing. I also can't find anything wrong with File B.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Any Way To Transmit Event Icons To Top Item (drawing Name) At Prospector?
Sep 4, 2013Some times I note the lack of a top warning-icon placed on top of prospector folder.
The idea is, for example, that in case I had a corridor out of date I dont see this "situation" until I navigate up to the corridors/corridor item, so I can forget easily the rebuild need. The posibility to see this icon near the name of my drawing should be very useful.

I am trying to create a berm that is 8' wide. For my assembly I used 4' wide basiclanes and daylightgeneral (with 3:1 slope in all parameters) on left and right side.
In the top image I have circled two of the areas in which the hinge line is shown. And in the bottom right the cross section of one side of the berm is shown. As you can see on the inside (left) there is two feet sloped at approximately -1% before it daylights to the surface at 3:1
Why isn't the left side matching the right?

Mar 12, 2013I have been trying to add a county wide 3m dem into C3D 2012 with no success. My goal is to be able to open a drawing, zoom into a small section of the county and instantly have an accurate surface to look at. I realize this is an extremely large file with over 450 million points but I was hoping that if I set the surface to "no display" then created a boundary around the work area before turning the surface on it might work. However, I can't even get the dem to load without crashing the computer. I've also tried adding a data clip boundary to the surface then adding the dem. This worked but was extremely slow loading defeating the purpose. Is there another method used for adding a dem as large as this to a surface?

Oct 14, 2010In this moment I am trying to add to my profile line a PVI -which I know how to do it- with the capability of modify the criteria for the vertical curve. In this moment every time that I add a PVI the tangents do not have a vertical curve and if I open the Panorama Profile Grade View Window it does not allow me to change either the length or radius so their values in these cells are empty.
How is possible then to edit -create- the vertical curve for a PVI that was not created in the first shoot?

I have a very long alignment with a finaized design. I have a design change to make, which means I need to move a section of the alignment, and I want to do it without changing the stationing past a defined point so that it does not affect the design (corridor) past that point.

I can add them to the point group, but when I updated my surface nothing happens. The triangles don't extend to my newly added points and my profile of the area doesn't show a surface where these new points should be. the new points I want to add have the same properties as the other points in the point group, they are cogo points.

Jun 28, 2013I have recently run across an odd issue when adding text to a drawing in Civil 3D. The problem comes with creating a new text item in an existing drawing. In this drawing, if I insert a text object, Civil freezes up for several minutes. Once it is un-frozen, the text pops up as it should and everything works as normal. This happens for both single line and multi line text, with any of my text styles, and across all layers that I have tried. Other regular drawing objects do not cause any problems, and there are also no problems editing any existing text objects.
To troubleshoot, I have created new drawings and added text, but they do not have problems. I have also opened other existing drawings, but no problems with those either. I am worried that the drawing file may be corrupted, but audits and recovers don't show ay errors, and I have purged out everything not in use.
The strangest part is that if I open the same drawing in Map 3D, I have the same text insertion problems, but when I open it in plain CAD or in Raster Design, the text will insert with no problems.

Jan 4, 2009I have an existing alignment issued to me which has been created using all straight lines even where there should be curves. I am trying to insert curves in these areas. Using free curves (2 entities and a through point) I create a curve then somethings happen I can't work out -
1. The curve is created but the original straight linework stays. I would have thought the original linework would automatically delete. See attached pdf between points 60 and 62 the curve and straights can be seen.
2. Then all stations after the curve are changed to the question mark symbol. If i click on the alignment all the grips are still there for the full length of the alignment, indicating the alignment is still in one piece.
3. If I try to create another curve further along the alignment it won't allow it. Stating on the command line "Selected entity must be part of the main entity."
I'm using C3D 2009.

Dec 16, 2013I am using AC3D 2014. I have created a surface from downloaded DEM points, but, as expected, the contours are not as accurate as I would like. They vary from known elevations anywhere from a few inches to several feet.
I also have survey data from approximately 500 points which include Northings, Eastings and Elevations. Is there a way to add these points to my existing contour surface and incorporate these know NEZ points such that he contour surface is more accurate?
I have already converted my "known point" file to a .txt format with comma delimited information.
