AutoCAD Architecture :: Plotting To PDF To Adobe Acrobat X- Slow Spooling
Feb 22, 2011
Weve recently updated our systems at our office to OS Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Im currently using AutoCad Architecture 2010. We also upgraded to Adobe Acrobat X.
The iissue i have is when plotting to PDF (selecting Adobe PDF as printer) it takes a long time to spool. Sometimes it takes as much as 4 mins before it completes the PDF. Other times it just crashes.
This is the first im using Acrobat X. Previoulsly i was using Acrobat 8 without issues. My thought is there might be a compatibility issue with the new version of Adobe X. Or perhaps its a simple as the settings im using. The other user in my office is running the same system, but hes using Acrobat 9, and of course his works flawlessly?
The temporary work-around is Exporting to PDF within AutoCAD.

[URL] We have a client who are using Adobe Acrobat 9 and have .PDF's saved in a Share Folder. Is the creator of the document but is still faced with the read only prompt when trying to save the document after making an edit (e.g rotating). Upgrading to Adobe Acrobat 9 isn't an option.
Folder permissions in both Share and NTFS is okay. User's profile has full control of the folder it is being saved in. I've also ensured the reading pane is Windows Explorer is off when they're opening it.
Have run a repair on Adobe Acrobat 9 and tried with other documents with the same result.Saving locally does not have the same issue. using .PDF for Adobe Acrobat 9 in a Share Folder environment.
Server is SBS2008 and user's PC is Windows 7 Professional.

I'm creating video clips in Corel Video Studio X4 Ultimate (Education),for use in creating multimedia PDFs with Adobe Acrobat X Pro.
The formats Adobe Acrobat says is accepts include MPEG 4 / H.264,so in Corel Video Studio X4 I've tried selecting the following types of output file:
1) "MPEG4: iPhone H.264 (640 x 480)" My preferred resolution, but Adobe Acrobat won't accept it, apparently because it's "Sony PSP" (according to an analysis by MediaInfo), not supported by Flash, according to an advisor on the Adobe forums.
2) "MPEG4: iPod H.264" (320 x 240) This is accepted by Adobe Acrobat, even though it's also Sony PSP (according to MediaInfo). But this isn't enough resolution for my purposes.
3) "MPEG4: iPhone 4/iPad HD" This is also accepted by Adobe Acrobat, but the resolution is too high (1280x720) as the files are too large.

I've been working on a map that contains a number of standard AutoCAD objects, as well as three sets of FDO objects. All FDO items are SDF's. If it makes a difference, 2 of the FDO sets are points, and the third is lines. All of the FDO items are styled fairly extensively, but there are no labels.
When I try to print to a regular plotter, it just spools up for a half hour or so, then I get a message from the system that the plot has failed. For whatever reason, I never get an actual CAD error message when this happens. When I try to print to PDF using the on-board DWG -> PDF driver, I get a pdf with every drawing object smeared accross the bottom of the print - it's completely un-useable. I'm currently trying to print using a 3rd party PDF driver (Cute PDF). It almost crashed my system, but now I am looking at a print file that has spooled up to 2.5 GB! The actual drawing file is a bit under 10 Mb in size, so I don't know where this huge plot spool is coming from.
I'm using Map3D 2010 on a Windows XP machine with the max (4GB) of ram.

I recently upgraded from ACAD 2004 to ACAD 2012. In ACAD 2004, plotting was extremely quick. In ACAD 2012, plotting seems to be extremely slow. A basic drawing in 2004 plotted as a pdf file using CUTE PDF or PDF Creator would take about 5-10 seconds. In ACAD 2012, a similar file using the same CUTE PDF or PDF Creator will take up to 2-3 minutes. Not a long time but when you are plotting a dwg set that has up to 10 tabs in it, it takes 20-30 minutes just to plot. Is there any way to speed up the plotting in ACAD 2012? I have both ACAD 2004 and ACAD 2012 loaded on the same computer.

When using the undo command, plotting or switching between drawings in Autocad 2010 and now also 2011 I am experiencing long delays of up to 15-20 seconds at a time which is rather frustrating. I am running a fast spec computer and can't seem to overcome it, I haven't had the problem with 2009 and when need to do something quickly have found myself using the outdated software. Other users in the same office have equal or lesser spec computers and are not having the same issues, I have tried a re-install and this hasn't worked either. I was hoping the new 2011 version would solve this issue but no luck.

Relatively new to the software, I am completely and utterly confused as to how to set up colours and lineweights for plotting. At the moment I have a titlebox template which prints as desired (black borders and colour logo), but when it comes to plotting views that are in the sheet file, they always print in black and white. I think I need to start from scratch here....
- Do I set colours in the view drawing or in the sheet file? What about overrides?
- How do i set up my plot styles?
- What ctb or stb should I use for printing geometry in black and white with only several lines in colour as required.

I have noticed for many years (since ADT 2006...) that the OTB line weights seem to plot the same. For example, I don't notice much difference (actually none at all) on paper between A-Sect-Thin, A-Sect-Med, A-Sect-Fine, A-Dtl-Fine, etc... I have always remedied this by adjusting the Global Line weights, which I know is not optimal and I tell everybody else in my firm not to do it.
That being said, some of the more "seasoned" architects who are trying to use ACA are having trouble getting the line weights to print as they would have hand drawn them years ago. It has inspired me to take another stab at understanding this issue and trying to determine how it is intended to be used, and what I am doing wrong.
I have gotten the office to use the OTB - AIA LWT By Object.ctb, which I would assume coincides with the OTB AEC styles / objects. Can some one explain this to me or tell me where I am going wrong? I have the "Plot Object Lineweights" checked in the plot dialogue box, and honestly have checked and unchecked the "scale lineweights" box and notice no difference.

I have a drawing with the floor plan as an xref. I added the plumbing on top of the xref. My problem comes when plotting. When I print the drawing to the plotter, since the plotter is black and white only the lines of the plumbing come out darker than the xref. But I also need a pdf copy in black and white, but when I change the settings to greyscale all the lines look the same in terms of darkness.
Additional info, the xref is grey and the plumbing layer line color is dark purple.

I'm working on getting my autocad groove back, and I'm not sure how to get my plotted output to look right. Specifically, how to plot b/w instead of colors, and how to control lineweights. BTW, I seem to have ctb files, but they don't show up in the styles when I go to plot.

I plot my drawings from a layout to PDF then can print from various printers, but the PDF and subsequent plots come out very light, somewhat like in a halftone plot. The image in the paper view port also show lighter than the color in the model view. I am using the AIA standard color.ctb plot style and have tried switching to various styles.

After I plot to pdf, I get an error message: You do not have a PDF viewing application installed. Go to the internet and dowload a pdf viewer. The problem is that Acrobat Reader X is installed on my computer. I saw the thread about Reader X having spooling issues, so I reinstalled Acrobat Reader 9. Still get the same message.I can go to the file afterwards and open it, despite this message, but it is supposed to open from Architecture after it is plotted and it won't do that.

I'm trying to plot a simple site plan to PDF through the DWG to PDF.pc3 option.
The scale in my model space is 1-1 and in my viewport in paper space 1-200.
The issue is I plot to PDF, and then the scale is way out. For example an object that should be 10,000mm long in model space appears as 59mm (11,800mm scaled) on the PDF. And of course when I print from the PDF to a printer this scale error carries over.

We have a computer that has Arch 2011, 32 bit on windows 7 on it. About 6 months ago, when you go to plot, the plot dialog box takes up to 5-10 minutes to open. then if you change ploters or setups, it takes another 2 minutes. It just spins. when you are ready to plot, the plotter or copier starts as normal speed.
then another computer Arch 2011, 64 bit on window 7 start doing it about a week ago. the only thing was that windows updated the HP plotter driver and windows. It will do the same thing as above. Our copier is not an HP and the driver was not updated, but it takes forever to open the plot dialog box.
Either computer can publish. However, in all other programs, the files printer box open and print normally.
Is there a setting that was changed in autocad?

I have a client who updated to AutoCAD Arch 2014 and now is having trouble with his grey lines printing pixilated.
He is using the same .ctb file from 2013 (moved up from 2012) also his pc3 file (from 2012). When he moved to 2013 he had this issue and went back to his 2012 pc3 and everything was working fine again.
So when he had the issue in 2014 he started using the 2012 pc3 file. But this time - no change.

I am using a pdf file as an xref however while panning/zooming and some other basic commands, the response is really slow.I have already tried using a jpg file but I loose the ability to grab the end point of a line. I am able to grab the end point of a line while using the pdf.
I have 4 GB of ram and nothing else open, so I cannot see this being the problem

problem when plotting files that have PDF images attached to them and are viewed through a viewport. When plotting, the publishing bar fills up but then stays filled and doesnt disappear. At this point AutoCAD is locked up and I see the file starts spooling. I have several PDF files attached that amount to no more than 500 kb, however, when spooling it racks up to 30mb before in sends it off to the plotter and it takes a very lenghtly wait (up to 60 min). Eventually it plots and sometimes it doesn't plot at all. After a while if I try cancelling the plot, it will start plotting but only half of the page and after that the entire operating system will lockup. We have several machines (6) and 2 plotters in a network and the plotters are shared. Is there a better and faster way to work with PDF xrefs? Could this be a networking problem instead of AutoCAD?
