View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem in an elevation view where the surface hatch covers the windows after I apply a Modify Roofline command in the construct.
When I look at the elevation in an isometric view you can see the surface hatch go through the windows. When I refresh the elevations after the construct xref is reloaded after Modify Roofline command the windows are no longer visible.
If I reset the modify roofline command in the construct, reload the xref in the elevation the elevation returns to normal.
I'd like to figure out why after the modify roofline command the windows are covered in the elevation but not in the construct view.
How can I modify the line type/weight? How can I change the color? Where are my object properties?
I have seen a few threads with variations of these questions. I had the same ones, until now. I did some serious messing around and came up with this, I thought it may be useful:
To get the AutoCAD 2012 "Properties" panel in ACA 2012:
Disclaimer: This procedure involves modifying your software's configuration file(s). If you choose to follow it, you do so at your own risk.
1. Open the "Customize User Interface" dialog by a familiar method (I like the keyboard, the command is "CUI").
2. Switch to the "Transfer" tab.
a. If you can't see it, expand the dialog to 2-columns by clicking the ">" button in the lower right corner.
3. Set the left-hand column to "acad.cuix", I'll call this the "source file".
a. If you can not see the file, click the "Open" button and navigate to your "Application Data" folder.
i. Win7: {userProfile}AppDataRoaming
ii. WinXP: {userProfile}Application Data
b. Navigate further to the Autodesk Support folder:
i. {Application Data}AutodeskACA 2012enuSupport
4. Set the right-hand column to "Main Customization File", or another customization file you intend to use, the "destination file".
5. Expand both files' "Ribbon->Panels" nodes.
6. Locate the "Home - Properties" panel in the source file.
7. Right-click the panel and select "Copy" from the context menu.
8. Right-click the destination file's "Panels" node and select "Paste" from the context menu, it will be added to the end of the panel list.
a. NOTE: You may get a warning that the panel already exists. If you do, click the "Rename" button. The new panel will most likely show up as "Copy Of Home - Properties"
b. Right-Click the new panel and select "Rename". Set the name to "Home - ACADProperties"
9. Click the destination file's "Save" button.
10. Switch back to the dialog's "Customize" tab.
11. Using the drop-down, select your destination file as the file to customize.
12. Expand the (a) "Ribbon -> Tabs -> Home-ACA" and (b) "Ribbon -> Panels" nodes in the "Customizations…" (top-left) section.
13. Select the "Ribbon -> Panels -> Home-ACADProperties" panel, a preview will appear and the "Properties" section will populate.
14. Edit the panel's "Display Text" property, change it to "Properties" (this is the name that will appear on the panel once it's added to the UI).
15. Right-click the "Home-ACADProperties" panel in the "Customizations…" section and select "Copy" from the context menu.
16. Right-click the "Ribbon -> Tabs -> Home-ACA" node and select "Paste" from the context menu.
17. Click the "Save" button.
18. Click the "OK" button.
19. Observe your UI, the new Properties panel will appear at the right end of the "Home" tab.
20. Drag the panel to the location you would like it.
a. NOTE: Adding this panel to the tab causes the other panels to resize so the ribbon fits the screen/UI width. If there are any panels that you aren't using, turn them off to allow more room for the other panels. (I turned off the "Transparency" panel, the new "Properties" panel includes those commands in the slide-out, making it redundant.)
b. To turn a panel off, right-click a panel title, select Show Panels, then uncheck any panel you don't want displayed.
Now, my ribbon looks like this:
How can I modify the Fire Rating parameter of a door to be an Instance Parameter instead of a Type parameter, or how do I Remove the parameter altogether from the door family?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a handrail section to suit an existing staircase. I have drawn the plan of the handrail out and then created a 3d sketch to plot the height of the handrail relative to the plan.
My plan was then to draw a spline through the points and sweep the handrail profile along the spline to create my model. If this is the right way to create the model or does tried and tested procedure?
I am currently working on a project with an architect and I have some elevations that are in the current floor plan sheet. During the last project review he wants to move them off the floor plan sheet and onto another sheet. No Problem. However when i went back to regenerate the elevation to copy to another sheet, I noticed that there were a flashing boxes where the old elevations were. Is there something there that needs to be purged somehow. I tried using the purge command and they are still there.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI created a new family to use as posts in my handrail system. This is for a deck railing. I'm working on creating a model of the building as it currently stands so I'm able to include a picture of what it actually looks like in real life.
I've also included a screenshot showing the properties window for the handrail (showing what balusters are available) next to the project browswer (showing what families I've got loaded in the file).
In the project browser, I've marked with a red arrow the family that I want to use in my handrail. The ones marked in green are actually listed in the handrail properties window. So how can I make the Dek Rail Post available to my handrail?
I've also included the post family as an attachment.

I currently have a situation in white my stair handrail mid post wont connect to my stair stringer. I have a C10 stair stringer and am using a modified typer square handrail system I have made. I am sure there is a setting or preference I have missed that is causing this. I have attached an image for reference.
ALSO in the image you can see the top rail does not fully attach to the end post. It sits in the middle somehow. AND that end post sits halfway off the stringer.
How I would draw a simple plate transition? It would be 3' - 6 1/4" OD at the top and 10' - 6 7/8" OD at the bottom. It would be 62" tall. I draw this but can't figure out how to make it "flat" like a layout on a piece of plate to cut out and then form / roll into into it's final shape. I looked at one of our past project's drawings and it shows this, but looking at the dimensions on it, I cannot figure out how it was done.

The part was done in SW, but I am now needing to do it in Inventor.

I tried using the "BEND PART", but I can only select one line. What should I use so I can bend all four sides up?

I have a face plate with strokes on it to represent pressure increments.I cannot get the numbers onto the face plate. On the large stroke it starts at 0 and goes to 9 .. How do i add the numbers. Also i used extrusions for the increment strokes with circular patterns and mirror features. Is this how it should be modeled?

is it possable to add an opening into a plate created in Plant3D?
i.e. i have some equipment that need to pass through the grating of several leveals of a new structure.
I seem to have made what many might consider a rookie mistake. Built a fairly complex structure for an overhead crane system and get to the end to find that I missed two holes. The problem with these two holes is it is ONLY 1 plate (my grounded part), but I have used this same part in one other instance. So if I edit (even from within assembly) and add the two holes to the grounded plate it creates them in the other plate, which I dont want.
Since I have the second plate being used as a refence to locate MANY other parts on this unit, it would be quite difficult to replace it with a new part (same but different file name).
Any way to add said two holes to the grounded plate only and not the other?

If you have a steel plate bent in several directions and with non-perpendicular ends, designed in 3D Auto Cad.
For example, the plate can be curved with a certain radius in the vertical direction and another horizontally. How would you, or what software would you use, to get the plate flattened to the exact measurements of how it should be cut.
Basically we are trying to make a 3D plate (in this case a 2" thick piece of steel) and have a 3D hollow shape inside. Its split into Top and bottom, as shown as the below picture.
top View (plate 1).jpg
I have tried the loft command (which I just learned off within the past hour or so) and it indeed works. But I wish to use its as the opposite, where the middle is hollow and the rest is a solid object.
Side View (plate 1).jpg
I have tried the loft command (which I just learned off within the past hour or so) and it indeed works. But for the life of me does not know how to get it as one big object with the middle shape hollow. Am i missing a step or is it another command completely?
Also, once the object has been created, I want to split the object on its X axis mulitple times, almost like an exploded view. Each split will have its own set of top and bottom orifices which will represent multiple plates.
Is there a way to do that? Also is there a way to gain and separate the top and bottoms of these newly split plates?
Here is the drawing file as well to work on -> 3D-MK1.dwg
I'm modeling a band that will be screwed onto the inside of a sheet metal cylinder. The band will be rolled to the ID of the cylinder. I'm trying to model the holes in the band, and place screws into the holes. I'm not sure yet how the holes will be machined out in the shop--whether they'll be drilled or punched, made before or after the band is rolled, placed based upon degree or arc length, etc.
1. Is there a better way to model the band and its holes?
2. How can I properly and easily insert the bolt into the holes since they're no longer "perfect holes" that can be used in an "Insert" constraint.
3. How can I then pattern the bolt so I don't have to insert one into each hole?
I have attached a jpeg file of a Plate out of a heat exchange. It shows half of the Plate but it is identical shape for top and bottom.I am able to create the solid shape but i need creating the numerous patterns onto the plate. How would i place the pattern feature onto the Plate?
Also from the picture there is a gasket.Would this be made as a separate part and placed on the Plate in a assembly file?Would the gasket be best made using sweep function?
I have created the plate as a solid model but would Sheet Metal also work or even be a better choice?

I have an oddly shaped flat plate extruded from a sketch, the sketch of which has lots on constructions lines, none of which actually represent solid edges of the plate. However, I want to locate the plate to other components via the geometry defined in the sketch.
I find that when I am trying to constrain the plate to other parts none of the sketch geometry is available to me. Points, lines, construction lines, circles; I can select none of it when constraining. I am confused. How can I constrain such a part?
Just to clarify - the flat plate is the base of a structure. Its profile is decoratively shaped, so nothing about the cut edge of the plate is suitable for constraining to. I need to constrain off geometry defined in the sketch.
I have "Shared" the sketch.

I want to form a plate (collar palte around branch (riser) connection, which when is flatened the projected circle will be eliptical. Before Refold I want to cut plugholes for welding. In flat position it looks like a flange /w holes and the middle cut-out is elliptical. I want to refold it to be again in rolled shape.

It does show the dotted lines for when it is on the down side of the plate, but in some sections i have a counter bore of the same diameter on both sides of the plate.
