AutoCAD Architecture :: How To Migrate Style To Template And Other Drawings

Feb 22, 2013

I have been using autocad R14 with a 2d architecture addon for the last 15yrs.I purchased Architecture2009 and never used it because of the learning curve from R14.

Computer Crashed and forced me to update...I am adapting very slowly and need to get up to speed soon. i have a residential design business and my clients are getting a little upset with my lack of production.

I spend a bit of time yesterday changing door styles and want them available to all drawings not just the one they were created in. How do i migrate my style to the template and other drawings?

AutoCAD Architecture :: Loading Layer Key Style From Template

Oct 25, 2012

Trying to autoload and update the current & or new drawing to the most recent form or the LKS

This is what my lisp file has

(AecImportLayerKeyingStyle "D:drawingsLibraryAusContent13Aus-Layer&LayerKeyStyles.dwg" "Multi-Level")
(AecSetCurrentLayerKeying "Multi-Level")

On loading drawing, ACA returns

AutoCAD Architecture menu utilities loaded.ERROR: Unable to import the style 'Multi-Level' from 'D:drawingsLibraryAusContent13Aus-Layer&LayerKeyStyles.dwg'

The LKS already exists in the drawing. Renaming it and pasting the first line to the command line results in a nil return and the LKS is not imported.

Format seems correct.  Path is correct. It can't not import because it's already in the drawing.  Renaming existing does nothing.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Template File Opens 2 Drawings?

Jan 24, 2013

I have the school edition of ACAD 11, and we made a template in class, and now whenever I open it from windows, it opens 2 drawings. It did this with my personal computer as well as the school computer I was on at the time. I'm guessing I changed a setting within the template? It isn't 1 drawing of the template and one fresh one like I read alot here,  both seem to be my template file in dwg.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Parcel Style - Name Template

Mar 8, 2012

I would like to have my parcels be able to label the lots with sometihng other than the Lot # given by the setup of the parcel itself. What i'd like to be able to do is have it label Outlot A - which I haven't been able to figure out to date.

How can I get the parcel style to use something other than the word Lot or a number (given the typical lot is a number). We have various reasons why Outlot A is a needed label. How does one go about getting C3D to use something other than the name template in parcel style. I can toggle the name template option off once I create the parcel. But, when I toggle it off - then go to the name and change it to Outlot A - the parcel label still shows as Lot 1. Why?

When I go "new" and open a new drawing file from the template I get the message about the style conflict and when open BOM in a new drawing I get default columns not the columns I set up in iproperties.

What is the process of setting up/changing styles?

Is there a way that we can set the view label in the style library to show custom/user Properties?

We have set our iam/ipt templates to have some custom properties which we wish to display in the view label when the view is created however there this no way to add these properties to the label.

I find this a little strange as you can add these user Properties to the parts list in the style library? (I've added some screen caps to show what I am talking about)

AutoCAD Architecture :: Redlines To Drawings

Dec 2, 2011

Currently once I have finished a drawing I print to PDF and send the drawing out to document control for distribution. Eventually I get some feedback that a few things on the drawings need to change.

This involves me

1.) Modifying the original dwg file
2.) Printing to PDF
3.) Opening the PDF with PDF X-Change viewer and drawing revision clouds and other notes on top of the PDF
3.1) I could also replace the PDF with DWF files, but then I would still have to make revision clouds and notes on the DWF file. But everyone uses PDF so I stick with PDF.
4.) Issuing back to document control for distribution.

Is there another way to make redlines within autocad so that changes will show up in red?

 - Move a wall? Its red.
 - Add a drawing and viewport to a paperspace tab? Its red.
 - Add more text to an mtext or dtext object? New text is red.

I am looking for ideas other than moving those objects to a new layer, or manually coloring them red. I like the way Microsoft word has a track changes button, where everything I delete goes red and gets a line through it, and all new text is red.

AutoCAD Architecture :: 2011 Switching Drawings By Itself?

Apr 8, 2011

Several users here in my office have been having a strange issue with ACA 2011.  When doing various things such as, saving, regen'ing, or manually switching between open drawings, ACA will "blink" to a completely different drawing.

For example, right now I have 4 drawings open.  I'm trying to go from drawing A to drawing B.  It goes to drawing B and starts to regen model space, then it blinks back to drawing A.  Does the same for any of the 4 drawings.  Only way to make it stop was to close drawing A.

As I said, it not only does this when switching drawings.  It'll also do it after it's done saving and when I try to regen.

AutoCAD Architecture :: Setup Own Template Drawing With Title Block / Layers

Apr 2, 2012

I was presented with a little renovation project and need to setup my own drawing.  I've worked on CAD for a number of years while at a structural firm, an engineering firm and took classes in school but one thing I never had to do was setup was my own professional drawing from scratch.  I know enough that it's crucial I start off on the foot.  The engineering firm I worked at had everything ready so whenever I used CAD it was in an existing drawing or preparing a detail which the drafters imported.  When I did some drafting work for an architect, he also had the drawing setup for me.

Since I'm now on my own I need to setup my own template drawing with a title block, layers, etc.  Whats the best route for setting up my own sheets?

At my firm we always worked in a 1:1 scale & engineering units but since I'm doing floor plans for renovation work I plan on using the industry standard.

AutoCAD Architecture :: Project Fields In Title Block Sheet Template

Jun 26, 2012

I've created a sheet template that includes Fields to populate the sheet with the Project Name and location among others like scale, etc. When I create the new sheet in the project navigator most of the fields populate with the correct information based on the parameters set in the project. However, it consistantly does not populate the Project name and location. When I click the field and ensure that the attribute is set correctly then it renders the correct information. The problem is this ends up being a manual operation yet it still reads as a smart tag. Why do these not populate automatically?

Here's my process:

Create dwt for sheet file and include xref of title block.

Create a block with attributes that link to AEC Project, CurrentSheetTitle, etc. and insert into dwt.

In project navigator I create new sheet and select my template.

Information does not populate.

But when I view the block and close (no edits) it then links.

AutoCAD Architecture :: Copy Viewports To Multiple Drawings

Is there a way to copy a viewport with all its layers setup from one drawing file to another drawing file?

I can copy the viewport and activate it, but the layers setup for that viewport goes to default. So it turns everything on.

I can't make a layer state in the old file and import in new file, because the new file does not have all the same layers.  So not all my layers would be turned off in the viewport.
