I noticed that when I hover the mouse over a object, two small blue squares appear and when I pick an object, a properties dialog box appears. This started happening suddenly without changing any settings or options. How do I turn this off/on?

I can no longer open the Properties Palette when I double-click on something. Sometimes, I get the Quick Properties Box, instead -- which was already turned off. I've triple checked that the QP is off, made sure no tool tips or the like are on, and I've rebooted the computer, but I can't get rid of the thing.
The main Properties Palette still opens up when I use CTRL-1, if I type "properties" at the command prompt, and if I right-click and select "Properties" from the short-cut menu. Sounds great -- except when I double-click something out of habit and can't jump into the palette and keep going. Instead I have to clear out of whatever pops up on my screen and open the PP 'manually'.
I've gone in to the CUI and dragged "Properties" in to the double-click function, but...nada.
When i click on view and then toolbars and when i try to get my layer properties a message appears about Unhandled exception has occured. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. But it is not continuing. It says to see the end of this message for details on invoking JIT debugging instead of this dialog box

View 1 Replies View RelatedI try to set up a plane as a background. In order to do that, I have tried to create a plane, use material editor to add a bitmap to a slot and drag it to the plane. However, each time I do that, 3DS Max doesn't let me drop it in the plane. (A prohibition sign appears beneath the cursor).

I have a drawing that seems to be creating a line when the drawing is PDF'd. i have purged, Audited and recovered the drawing and the unbound xref files. The line does not appear in any preview nor in model/paper space. attached is a screenshot of the pdf file.

I am having difficulty with the text in my drawings. When writing dtext or dimensions on my drawings in modelspace the text appears rough/rugged in both model space and layout space. I am using True Type (Arial) as the font. I've read older posts where people have suggested checking in Properties that the text is really laying down at 0 in the Z plane which it is. Some say using True Type is the problem, but just last week I was doing what seemed to be the same operation and I had no problems at all.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThis has been occurring numerous time more than it should. While in a drawing mid command, panning, typing anything pretty much my cad freezes. The rest of my computer is fine everything works properly but CAD is frozen and when i bring my pointer into the program it disappears. I can even open cad up again and the old CAD will stay open. It shows the drawings i have open on the tab bar and i can’t close out of them. I have a computer that’s more than capable to work properly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I was working in 3D and I guess I pressed some kind of button or something that caused my 3D cursor to only move along the x=0 line. If I move my cursor up, it moves it lightly sideways. It stops when I move into side/top/front views, but as soon as I pan into 3D view, the cursor only appears along the x-axis. I'm probably overlooking a simple AutoCAD command, but I'm a new user and I can't find the answer anywhere in the manual or on the internet.
View 1 Replies View RelatedEverything works fine until the center of my cursor passes over a 3d solid, the cursor then disappears, the spinning circle icon spins for sometimes minutes, and the display greys over, and I cannot click 'ESC' or Ctrl + C to abort this cycling. I have to wait, sometimes 30 secs, sometimes 2 minutes for it to stop freezing and the screen returns to normal.
As I work in 3d solids a lot, this makes Acad 2013 unusable to me. Acad 2007 was not an issue with this problem I still have it installed as I have to revert back to 2007 to do anything with 3d solids in it.
I am running a new full version of AutoCAD 2014 on Windows 7 64 bit. It is litterally taking 5-7 seconds to zoom, switch pages, regen, or mostly anything else.

View 5 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden my cursor will become invisible. This happens only with AutoCAD. and if I switch between drawing windows it will appear on another drawing file. I have to close the drawing and open it again and then the cursor will be back only to disappear again. The cursor is visible if I move it back to the ribbon or bottom controls. It seems to happen only when it becomes the cross-hair cursor. I can still make selection windows and right click.
Mouse is working fine with all other programs and drivers are up-to-date.
Since installing 2013, when I have objects selected and want to deselect them by depressing the shift key, the cursor freezes and will not move until i let go of the shift key...

When I change the background (active command) to black, the cursor blends into it and not visible. Can’t see where is my current position when editing coordinates. The command background was black and text white for the last 10 years for 20 drafters; we would like to keep it this way
I admit that I have used AutoCAD for several years now, but I have very, very little experience with 3D applications and needing to alter the typical horizontal/vertical coordinate system.
What I have is a file that, though the lower-left icon is horiz/vert, my crosshairs cursor is tilted approximately 30 degrees counterclockwise. This file, I believe, did originate in AutoCAD Civil 3D, so who knows what was done there. But, how can I get my crosshairs straightened out once more?
I have noticed a relation with the UCS and the cursor, when I've played with Orbits. I just can't grasp what that relationship is.
ON 3 different computers in my classroom, the cursor quits working in the graphics screen. You c an still click on any of the toolbars, palettes etc, type on the keyboard, but there is no response in the graphics screen area. In fact the crosshairs change to the "windows" arrow when the cursor is in the graphics area. I have had to re-install the whole system. I thought maybe is was a graphics crad/ driver issue but this is only occuring in AutoCAD 2013, I have not have any trouble in Revit, or other graphics based software that we use. I have video cards/drivers that are certified by autodesk. I have checked them for updates, etc. I have tried turning of the anit-virse stuff, nothing works except re-installing the whole system. It is random, I have 30 computers and so far 3 of them have done this. They are all configured the same.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhenever i move my cursor over a 3D solid, outlines of the solid stay dashed.I tried changing the visual effect settings but it doesn't work.
it doesn't only do this in every view (top,side,front) but also when i'm panning around and hover my mouse over any solid. Using the regen command resets the solids so that they don't have the dashed outlines anymore.
whenever i'm panning around and i have conceptual view on, i have to switch from conceptual -> wireframe -> conceptual if i want the solids to look normal again.
I'm having trouble finding a system variable.
I have blocks in a drawing that were made using the 'retain' method. WHen I go to insert the block I cannot see the block preview at the crosshair cursor. The block only becomes visible once I have clicked the left mouse key at the insertion point.
This means I can't rotate it either as I can't see it until I have clicked to place it.
Which system variable (And what setting) will allow me to see the block as I'm inserting it?
After an AutoCAD/Windows crash, I reboot. The system begins to load Windows (Win 7 splash), then the screen goes blank and a white Windows cursor appears -- nothing more; no desktop or taskbar.
Control-Alt-Del does nothing, however, the HDD light continues to flash as if it is continuing to boot. The same thing happens when I boot in Safe Mode (except cursor is larger due to different resolution).
I can boot from bootable CD and everything works fine. HDD scan and memtest both pass. I formatted the drive and reinstalled Windows and AutoCAD and everything works fine. However, two days later, the same exact problem occurred on the second of five workstations.

AutoCAD 2013 was originally loaded from a trial version, then purchased license key installed.We are using Xref on a file server and opening drawing on a file server across a ethernet Gbit lan.
I am not sure how to change this, but I am adding polylines and they are coming in with a "Thickness" of 4" in the properties palette (7th option in General area of properties). The Global width is set to 0 and it shows correctly in a 2d plan view, but a 4" thickness if I do a 3dorbit.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy Acad experience is very old-school, and I have been away from true Autocad for a number of years.
I have been attempting to edit the properties of objects in the block editor and ran into a problem.
+ I select an object.
+ Right-click and choose Properties.
+ A list of properties is displayed, but they are not for the object I am trying to edit.
I did a test by selecting the object and using the command prompt, used the CHPROP command to change the objects color. It did change color as expected.
However, when I used the right-click/properties method, the properties shown do not show the new color. So, I suspect that my right-click/properties method is not showing me the object's properties. But, rather the default properties when any new objects are created.
So, obviously right-clicking is not the way to get there. What am I missing?
I am using LT 2013. I cannot figure out how to match properties for text. I click on the 2 options and the box witdth, orientation, layer will match but not the style or font. I have tried using Quick Properties to select but have not had any success with this tool. Here is what I did:
Created a style and named it Arial.
Open the Quickselect box.
Apply to : click the box and select the various mtext objects.
Object Type: mText
Properties: Style
Operator: Select All
Include in New Selection Set is checked.
I click Ok and the objects are selected.
Next I go to the Properties Manager and change the style to the one I want to use, bu the text does not change. If Idoubleclick a text object it shows the correct style, but not the correct font. What have I missed doing?
Is there any (non programming) solution where I can add custom data/properties to objects in plain AutoCAD?
(I know I can in Civil 3D though, using Notes/Extended Properties etc etc)
We want to allow users to add their own unique ID to all their drawn objects, and we don't want to use Entity Handle as that is not anything we can choose ;-)
We're using that ID to connect other datasources (ODBC) to Navisworks and we would like it to work even from AutoCAD, even though we have Civil 3D inhouse.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen doing a match properties from one hatch to another, I end up with two hatches having identical properties (pattern, scale, etc) but that look completely different. See the attached image.
I tried the old snapbase trick and also tried various hatch origin settings, but without success.
I am having trouble with getting the quick properties box to display. I have turned the feature on at the bottom taskbar, and tried Ctrl+Shift+P, and changed settings so that it displays to the top-right of the cursor, but I get nothing when I select any object. It used to work on 2012 but not now.

When a single object is selected, the dropdown appears blank and the properties displayed are just the default drawing properties that are displayed when nothing is selected.I am unable to view/modify any object's (line, hatch, etc) properties.
My PICKFIRST variable is set to 1. This happens on any file I open with 2013 LT but does not when the same file is opened with 2007 LT. I have also reinstalled/repaired the program through the control panel. I am at a complete loss.
I am using autocad 2013, and My properties dialog is blank. Pick-first is set to 1. I have completely repair, registry cleaned, but now this problem is continues.

If I were using a *.ctb file it would be obvious, but I'm doing contract work for a client and am using their *.stb file, and I don't have the option of adding another option to their *.stb file.
