Jun 15, 2012If I create a 3D model in AutoCAD 2013 using, say, 12 components; am I able to list the components in a report including any attributes that I attach to each component? Similar to Revit BIM.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Dimensioning 3D Models
May 14, 2013I have a fairly complex solid model built in Autocad 2013. I would like to dimension it now. I have various individual parts plus sub assemblies and weldments etc. What are best practices for doing this in an organized way? Should I copy various parts over to other drawings and dimension them separately? It seems odd to pile everything onto the one model. I know that Autocad is not Inventor (which I am somewhat familiar with), but does it have some similar tools for doing individual part drawings to keep things manageable?

Aug 29, 2013At work we have recently upgraded to Inventor 2013 Pro, Although Inventor isnt the most widely used program in the company so its hard to find time to do some set up and get it going smooth. My problem is that i am working on a large process plant all done in inventor and the file is quite large. It takes along time to load and is really laggy when inside the model. Now the model is based in my local office's server my question is if i was using Vault would it keep a local copy on my C:// rather than trying to refresh all parts from ther server. If it is a matter that when working with large files using Vault is the better option than i will need to take some advantages

In the attached I want to chop out the yellow solid and leave the other solids "as is" to reveal the various strata when the yellow solid is removed. I have removed the yellow solid but the results are not quite what I was hoping for.

Oct 6, 2011We are looking for a workflow example of developing casting models into machining models.
Typically our castings are made from different materials (Fig-1) and then machining (Fig-2) are created from these castings.
Is creating the casting as an iPart (with different materials) and then deriving the machining from the casting the proper method?
Doing it this way seems to force us into making a machining for each casting material instead of just one machining that is an iPart. How should this be set-up for BOM purposes and for use with Vault (Base Version)?

Apr 15, 2013Is there any other way to import MDT 2005 models to Inventor 2013 with having MDT 2005 platform loaded.
If not, where might I find MDT 2005. I have looked everywhere and it seems to be non existant. It would be alot faster than rebuilding anew in inventor and engineers hate to redo something alredy done correctly.

This isn't fast and convient at all to rotate your hole drawing to fit it in the landscape paper for example.

Oct 31, 2012after 2013 was installed in my colleagues computer he now has the option to include Layouts when opening the publishing command, which didn't happen before. It is a slight pain removing these from the selection to be published and I was wondering how I get it to only select models and not layouts when opening the publish command as default.

Jul 18, 2012I am trying to simply print my model as it appears on the screen, but when I go to plot it shows my preview either in wireframe or as a shadow. I have tried all of the different view types (realistic, conceptual, etc.) but none of them print it as shown on the screen. Is there something I can do to plot it as is?

Oct 16, 2012Some of the models that I convert into NWDs (via Naviswork's automation API ) may contain left over artifacts that the designer left, often in outer space, which causes the constructed NWD (and thus any other NWD that has appended the erroneous one) to have very large extents.
What would be an approach in detecting such artifacts in the DWG via the API? I'd like to construct a .NET app that would run to scan the models for such space junk before being processed by Navisworks?

We have components that avaialable in both 304 and 316. We have seperated stock codes for each of the selections what I would like to do is to come up with a way that I don't need multiple models of these features. The deisgns are virtually the same except for the material change.
In previous cad systems I used a tabled system in the model that would allow you to vary paramters such as Iproperties or even dimensions in one model.
This elimated duplication of work includeing double maintenance for the models?

Mar 11, 2013I have two different models that I want to place on top of one another in a drawing. One is a before machining and the other is after. I would like to be able to show one model with a different line type on the drawing and have it superimposed on the other drawing so that somone can see them both and the difference between them. I looked at the Positional Representations feature and it does not seem to do this.
I am using Inventor 2013.

May 17, 2013I have the task of creating elevation views of a site. These views require that the model be clipped along a section line to crop the forground so it doesn't obstruct the view of the site.
I've experimented with the section plane tools in the 3D modeling workspace but I can't get a section view. I suspect it is because they don't work with C3D surface objects. Any workflow for this task? Ultimately I need to generate hard copies of the views for the architect to use for his landscape plans.

I cant make it working, trouble starts when trying to create MAP 3d System User "MAPSYS" in Industry Model Setup, during user creation(about 68%) error popups" Could not create user MAPSYS"XE: Unable to deploy java package. Does XE version is suitable for Industry Models. Direct connection to Oracle 10g or 11G XE with MAP 3d working for me perfectly.
System I have is: WIN 7 Enterprise( 64 bit), database is Oracle 10g and 11g XE(32bit), client is Oracle 11g R2(administrator),all autodesk software is 2013 versions(64 bit). I tried it also with 2012 software but same result.

Nov 26, 2013I am making a control console with a bunch of plastic tags on my pilot devices. I use the sketch text tool to write the label on each tags.
When comes the time to make my drawing, I get my model sketch and they show on my 2D, no problem.
Well today, it seems Inventor 2014 just gave up on giving me my sketches. Here is the console view of of the lid with the tag texts showing:
Now let's go over the second lid on the same plan and get my model sketch to see the rest of my text.
Click on it and ....
Nothing! still no text.

Feb 6, 2013We are using Autodesk Inventor for our 3D modelling and we are working together with a group of scientists.
Those people would like to see our models, rotate them, take measurements, change the visibility of parts or subassemblies and maybe even make cross sections.
It works quite well with the Design Review program, but unfortunately our scientists mostly use Mac OS or Linux. Running Design Review under a windows emulation is not an option for our big models.

I successfully made the section by importing the cad file into a generic mass, but I cant seem to get the lineweights to show up.
I've tried setting overrides and object styles for generic models, but it doesnt register the cut line, only the projection line style.
I also tried importing as an IFC, which also converts the file to generic models, but no dice.
