View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm working on some bottle concepts and I have a need to model standard plastic bottle threads. These threads are designated by a diameter in mm and how many threads are on the bottle. Example: 33-400 The 33 is the diameter and 400 refers to a single turn of the cap. Manufacturers like Aptar make bottle tops of various types to fit this spec. I happen to be looking at dispensing lids (think Heinz Ketchup bottle). While I've found specs for Major diameter, Minor diameter and TPI, I have found precious little that describes the thread shape itself. I've tried to reverse engineer a sample thread from... you guessed it.. a Heinz Ketchup bottle. I feel that my venier caliper and micrometer are not doing this effort justice.
Looking for DWG file or Inventor model of the thread profile?
I'm using the coil command to create the thread on the bottle neck. It works okay. An issue arises with the thread termination. The threads on the bottle itself "chamfer" into the bottle neck. While I don't think I can do this with the coil command itself, how to create the "lead-in" for the plastic thread.
In previous releases (2009 i think) when i converted a standard part to a sheet metal part i could recall all the sheet metal styles by linking back to the sheet metal template (i can't remember exactly how this was done, but it was possible with one operation)
In 2011 i canot find a quick way of doing this, it looks like i have to open the sheet metal template and export each different style (about 40 of them) and then import each one into the converted part. am i missing something? is there a simpler way similar to how it used to be done? Why have Autodesk made this more difficult?
As it stands at the moment it would be quicker for me to remodel the parts from scratch using the sheet metal template. I know this is the obvious solution, but seems strange to change something that worked well to something that doesn't!
I have created the part based on piece of standard angle taken from library. Now I want to make a mirrored copy of this part by Component-Mirror.
Inventor does not let me do it with standard part.
The question is: How I can transform a standard part to normal one, I mean I could get rid of belonging to standard part? Making a copy does not work. The only way is to derive and mirror this part but I wish there could be easy way.
After saving a part from libary as 'user-defined' to edit it, it still appears with the symbol for 'standard part' (blue T): Means I cannot move it around to sort the parts in the 'tree' or from a folder to another and so on.
Open the part and it has a normal component part symbol. But still not in the assembly. I sometimes cannot change properties in the parts list. The name is different from the name in the folder (pictures).
Second thing: Using 'copy' to copy a assembly into a new folder, the user-defined part still behaves like a standard part and will not be copied as a normal part. - Not exactly what I need, when I make a part 'user defined'...
I am trying to convert a standard iPart to an iLogic based part. The part has some text driven, cells..PatNumber, Description..ect..But when I try to referance those cells the iLogic code either does nothing or errors out.
Basicly i have a bunch of flange rings with have several variables theat need to change as the part number changes, sounds simple right?I have rewritten the code so many times...I have gone from hunt and pecking to typing 300 words a min...well maybe not.
About 75-80% of all our parts are identical in shape but just get smaller or larger depending on what size portable auger it goes on.I have been trying to get the part to changed based on "PartNumber" but it has text in the value.
I'm a bit confused on the style library system built into Inventor - it isn't very intuitive.
I'd like to create my tube and pipe styles as well as sheet metal styles and have to never create them again - regardless of the project/workspace. Is this something that can be saved in the standard part/assembly template files? If so, how?
I'm tired of creating styles every time I start a new document - it is a waste of a lot of time! And I'd like to avoid having to import settings on every document.
We are looking for a workflow example of developing casting models into machining models.
Typically our castings are made from different materials (Fig-1) and then machining (Fig-2) are created from these castings.
Is creating the casting as an iPart (with different materials) and then deriving the machining from the casting the proper method?
Doing it this way seems to force us into making a machining for each casting material instead of just one machining that is an iPart. How should this be set-up for BOM purposes and for use with Vault (Base Version)?
what's everyone using for cotter pin models:
1. content center pre-bent model
or
2. the one from CBLISS that’s straight, but looks more accurate
How to compare two 3d models in Inventor or any of autodesk modules to see the changes?

We have components that avaialable in both 304 and 316. We have seperated stock codes for each of the selections what I would like to do is to come up with a way that I don't need multiple models of these features. The deisgns are virtually the same except for the material change.
In previous cad systems I used a tabled system in the model that would allow you to vary paramters such as Iproperties or even dimensions in one model.
This elimated duplication of work includeing double maintenance for the models?
I have two different models that I want to place on top of one another in a drawing. One is a before machining and the other is after. I would like to be able to show one model with a different line type on the drawing and have it superimposed on the other drawing so that somone can see them both and the difference between them. I looked at the Positional Representations feature and it does not seem to do this.
I am using Inventor 2013.
where I could find models for Bar Size Channels. I can't find any in Content center, CBliss, or MFG Community member files.

When comes the time to make my drawing, I get my model sketch and they show on my 2D, no problem.
Well today, it seems Inventor 2014 just gave up on giving me my sketches. Here is the console view of of the lid with the tag texts showing:
Now let's go over the second lid on the same plan and get my model sketch to see the rest of my text.
Click on it and ....
Nothing! still no text.

We are using Autodesk Inventor for our 3D modelling and we are working together with a group of scientists.
Those people would like to see our models, rotate them, take measurements, change the visibility of parts or subassemblies and maybe even make cross sections.
It works quite well with the Design Review program, but unfortunately our scientists mostly use Mac OS or Linux. Running Design Review under a windows emulation is not an option for our big models.
At work we have recently upgraded to Inventor 2013 Pro, Although Inventor isnt the most widely used program in the company so its hard to find time to do some set up and get it going smooth. My problem is that i am working on a large process plant all done in inventor and the file is quite large. It takes along time to load and is really laggy when inside the model. Now the model is based in my local office's server my question is if i was using Vault would it keep a local copy on my C:// rather than trying to refresh all parts from ther server. If it is a matter that when working with large files using Vault is the better option than i will need to take some advantages

Often i take 3D models and lay them out flat in Sheet Metal. Take the flat layout and convert it to DXF in AutoCAD. I recently came across an issue i haven't seen before and am confused as to how it occurred. I dimension the blanks in Inventor since Inventor is much more user friendly then AutoCAD as far as dimensioning goes. Somehow my DIMFactor was switched to .8 in AutoCAD which made my model scaled to 1.25 and therefore incorrect. I have no clue how i switched my DIMFactor to .8 in Autocad.

So what I am doing is using iLogic to generate models of units customers submit orders for. Using a form you select your components/options and it auto generates the model itself. The problem I am having is when it comes to saving out that file. Once it is saved out I obviously don't want it to change it any way so that way I know exactly what that customer was shipped. I am utilizing skeletons in these assemblies and sub assemblies. A problem I did notice is however I save my main "template" if i re-open a customer generated order. The skeletons shift back to whatever state is in the main template hence moving components to places they shouldn't be and creating a mess. Is there a way to save out or another way to avoid this issue.

View 9 Replies View RelatedThe error message has popped up on models, and assemblies, but no parts.
something on the internet said that this may be due to saving in a newer version on inventor, but i am using the latest version, and have been for the past few months. it is especially confusing as on of my drawings is only affected on one page, not the entire drawing. i have also had bad assemblies, but when the bad assembly is a sub assembly inside a bigger assembly its all fine!
I believe this issue started when I upgraded to Inventor Professional 2014. When I print idw files with shaded models on my HP Designjet 500 plotter I get white streaks in the shaded model. I never had this issue with the 2013 version of Inventor. If I export the same idw file to a pdf then print the pdf file there is no streaking and the printed drawing is okay. Thinking it was a Designjet issue I spent a couple days on HP's discussion group to find a solution but now it looks like a software issue.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there any other way to import MDT 2005 models to Inventor 2013 with having MDT 2005 platform loaded.
If not, where might I find MDT 2005. I have looked everywhere and it seems to be non existant. It would be alot faster than rebuilding anew in inventor and engineers hate to redo something alredy done correctly.
In Inventor Drawing Mode how to select the models in Browser tree using VBA, I think using selectset is not possible in my knowledge. Is there any other way to execute the selection .
View 1 Replies View RelatedOk received parts from a customer. It was ALL mesh features.I converted some of them(the mesh features) to Solids. Some would not convert to solids (converted to surfaces).
I need to have the COG show up correctly. Yes, I have a physical COG. I know where it is supposed to be.
I am trying to use this and several other parts (with mixed, Solids, Surfaces, Mesh features), in an assembly AND balance it all thru a common lift point.
How can I correct the COG of the individual parts, so that the assembly is correct.
I have work planes for the corrected COGs, but I am afraid that I will need to calculate the new COG for the assebmly.
I regularly generate models which have a front end (body) of a known shape but differing in size, to a back end (shank) again of a known shape but differing size.
So, is it possible to take pre-drawn blanks of both front end (body) and back end (shank) to join them up to create a new model/part? I'm assuming it's combine bodies but I'm not sure how it works!!
I have created a large complex assembly that is parametrically driven by a skeletal sketch ipt by means of an embedded excel spreadsheet.
I am cleaning up the models by deleting obsolete user parameters. But there is one that will just not give me the option to delete it.
I have interrogated the model inside and out but can not find anywhere that this parameter is still being used.
I go into the Parameter Dialogue Box (ƒx) and hover the cursor over the parameter and there is nothing that apears that indicates theis parameter is used anywhere in the model.
Is there an iLogic routine or some other method that will allow me to run a check or a search through the model that will point me to where the parameter might still be lingering.
I have attached a JPG if it will make things clearer.
RHRT_1 is the Parameter I am trying to get rid of.
BTW. The Models and Assemblies I create are guarded by Proprietry Laws so I am unable to send a copy to anyone.
