View 2 RepliesAs many of us seam to do the option to save by default to an older version of AutoCAD or universal DXF format is selected, my problem is however when you save an existing drawing a prompt appears asking if 'Drawing*.dxf last saved in AutoCAD 2004 format. Save in AutoCAD 2013 Drawing format?' this has annoyed me for years!
I have set it as default DXF 2014 for a good reason I don’t want a prompt asking me if I want to then save it as 2013 or I would have set it like that on my default setting, gets on your nerves when you are doing 100's of files.

Autocad MEP 2013 was working fine until I installed SP1 yesterday.
Now when type in open the dialog comes up (not a filedia issue). When I click the "look in" pull-down in the open dialog it goes blank and I am unable to browse any folders. I've tried rebooting.. Should I reinstall?
i get the following error msg "an autodesk product failed to send the required value for UPITOKEN. the error report sent to autodesk may be incomplete." and then another one also come "FATAL ERROR: unhandled e06d7363h exception at 75b19617h". then finally close.

View 4 Replies View RelatedLooking for a pdf to dwg converter that works very well. I am recreating some old drawings with Inventor that are currently in pdf format and would like to convert them to dwg's simply so I check the missing dimensions using AutoCAD. I've seen several converters out there and have tried one. However, the converter I tried resulted with the dwg being created with short polyline segments.

1) What is the difference between .lsp format and .fas? From what I gather, .fas cannot be editted (I think) so what is the advantage (if any)?
2) How would I convert a .lsp to .fas (or vice-versa if possible)?
I have an drawing file which contains 3000points , as i want those to be converted in .csv format,

Seems that the Save format keeps getting changed back to 2010 in AutoCAD 2013. We set the Save Preferences to save as 2013 in the Options > Open & Save > File Save: Save As box to 2013.
It seems that if you open an older version of AutoCAD, say v2010, then the next time you want to save a drawing (not necessarily the drawing you just opened, but another one you are working on) even if it was already in v2013, it gets saved back to v2010. And when you go back into the options dialog, it now is set to save everything as v2010. This wouldn't be so annoying if it didn't take 30 seconds to save the drawing as a v2010 drawing. There is a substantial difference in the time it takes to save a drawing to v2010 when using AutoCAD 2013.
Is there a way to make it stick to saving as a v2013 format?
I made with AutoCad particular drawing that i need to convert to SDR format .
View 3 Replies View RelatedThere is a problem with my AutoCAD installation that is not allowing me to format my field if that field is a formula. The default unit is Architectural, and most times that is not what I need. I have uninstalled, and reinstalled, I have reinstalled only, and I have gone through and deleted all references to my AutoCAD 2013 installation before reinstalling. This is a huge issue as I am building templates and I need this functionality as I automate our drawings. Where this is happening and how to fix it. I originally downloaded 2013 (Design Suite Premium) from this site through the subscrption center, so I thought it was a bad download, which it may have been, so I then ordered the physical media, which arrived today, and I tried uninstalling, deleting all traces and then reinstalling, but I get the same result. This leads me to believe that it is a problem which is stuck in the install file in my registry, and I need to delete that before reinstalling, but I don't know where it is.
I am attaching pictures of the problem area from my 2013 version where this feature does not work, and my 2011 version where it did. The picture from the 2011 version is actually of the objects field section, but I should have a very similar screen for the formula field creation in the same area of the dialog box.
change the default position the Text Format box opens in when double clicking on text to open the editor?
I have downloaded a list of system variables but have been unable to identify a system variable to control the location of the Text Format box.
Every time I double click on text to open the text editor the Text Format box opens directly on top of the text forcing me to drag the Text Format box out of the way to be able to see what I'm typing as I edit the text.
Some one in our office pointed out that the Text Format box is defaulting to open in the center of the screen and that if I want to avoid the conflict I should zoom or pan to a point where the text I wat to edit is not in the center of the screen. This is a major PITA that requires significant retraining as I ALWAYS zooom and pan to place what I am editing in the center of the screen. Twenty two years of AutoCAD use creates habits that are difficult to alter. I would think most people would do this by default and having the Text Format box default to opening in the center of the screen was a rather shortsighted choice by the programmer.
Shouldn't the placement of the Text Format box be relative to the location of the text chosen for editing, say above or below on the screen rather than defaulting to a set location?
I want to know how to open a dwg file that has been saved as a pdf file format so i can edit it.
Why do people save it to a pdf anyway? Doesn't that degrade the quality of the drawing?
I have a lot of clients that send me there drawing but i constantly have to tell them that they have to send the original form if they want it to be edited. Most of the time I have to use a converter to to convert it to a dwg file but the quality degrades drastically. I can’t believe in 2013 I’m still having problems with this.
I’ve tried Any PDF to DWG Converter but it doesn’t convert it very well.
i am using autocad 2013 student version at home and at college i am using autocad 2012. so when i create drawing in 2013,dosent open on 2012"it says incompatible version". i like to save all my dwg files automatically in 2011 format, i dont want to click save as and change it 2011 format.what i need is whenever i finsh working on drawing, if click save it should automatically save in 2011 format.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded AutoCAD to 2013. It now appears that we need to drop the save as format back down to 2010 format.
I realise that there is a reg edit for "defaultFormatForSave" which can be changed to "48" but when a user first runs AutoCAD this setting is overwritten.
How to change the default save format to the 2010 format?
I have noticed that some pdf files seem to be 3D solids and I have also seem to recall having had the experience of running one through Adobe Illustrator and then exporting it as a dxf file, opening it in AutoCAD and having it still be at least a 3D wireframe if not a solid.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am working on a drawing set that has many large xrefs, including dwgs that are from civil engineers working in civil 3d, that the engineers convert when they send us the files. The problem I am having is that the drawings won't open unless I 'hide' an xref, so it does not find it. If I do this, the drawings open, but the obvious problem this creates is that there is missing information. This is workable while the drawings are not being submitted / are for in office only. But soon we need to have all the information present / showing for submissions. The other issue is that I cannot reload xrefs in this drawing set, the program freezes, so I have to force quit or close the drawing and reopen to have reload the changed xref.
The set of drawings I am working in are around 14 MB or so each, but the xrefs there are about 10 range from 10 MB to 25 MB each. All the xrefs have been purged, audited and pared down to the smallest size possible, and all are necessary for the drawings.
I've recently been sent an IGS file via a secure file transfer site. Accessed the site, downloaded the file no problem but can't open it in ACad.
I've been advised to use the IMPORT command but this hasn't worked either, just provides me with the pop up saying only V7 & V8 are supported, see screen shot below.
Do I need to purchase a specific piece of software (plug in) to allow me to open the file?
When opening the a .dwg file in autodesk I am prompted with a message telling me that this DWG file was saved by an application that was not developed or licenced by Autodesk. What would you like to do? I say continue opening the drawing. Next the drawing opens but another message appear Proxy Information.
The drawing you have opened or referenced contain custom objects created by an unavailable Object ARX application. You do not need the original application to display proxy representations of objects that were saved in the drawing. However, many manufacturers including Autodesk, provide object enablers that also allow you to edit these custom objects. Visit the AutoCAD Object Enabler assistant web page to locate Autodesk object enablers or contact the software publisher about object enablers for other applications.
I believe the drawing has come from a Pro E environment. The file has been attached.
I've just upgraded to Windows 8.1. Well it seemed better than Windows 8 for the first few minutes. Then I discovered Autocad won't open. (Microsoft claim it's compatible - obviously I checked their Compatibility Center first).
I have Autocad LT 2013 version 19.0.55.0. I have done a full uninstall and reinstall of the application and service packs. There is no error message, the loading screen and status messages appear as normal, and then just before opening everything disappears.
I received a set of files from a client with .max extensions. Is it possible to open or import these into AutoCad? I would like to try this before going back to the client and asking for them in a different format.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with AutoCad 2013 crashing. While running the program when I use the open command dialog box if I re-name a file, create a folder, or copy a file autocad goes unresponsive and crashes immediately afterward. I have installed the service pack and update my video card driver trying to fix the problem. I used to be able to perform everything mentioned above in AutoCad 2010 without any problems. I don't think its my computer causing the problem because everyone else in my office is having the same issue with 2013.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am a contractor that does work for several different companies. When these companies send me their dwg file I have no problem opening them up to edit them, but once I complete my edits and email the file back to them they are telling me that their autocad crashes while trying to open the drawing or the whole computer itself. Most recently I only made a very minor edit to their dwg which was editing two areas of text and still crashes their computer when I send it back. I am using Autocad lt 2013, while they are using autocad 2010. I backsaved the file as well was purged the drawing after I was finished and still no luck. Also I noticed on another job after doing very minor edits, once I saved the new version the file file sized multiplied like ten thousand times its size.
