Dec 13, 2012How do I default save in an older format than 2013? I have a system that will not work with any dwg file other than 2004 format.

View 2 RepliesI recently upgraded AutoCAD to 2013. It now appears that we need to drop the save as format back down to 2010 format.
I realise that there is a reg edit for "defaultFormatForSave" which can be changed to "48" but when a user first runs AutoCAD this setting is overwritten.
How to change the default save format to the 2010 format?
I have a newly downloaded version of AutoCAD LT 2013 that will not save files in older formats for autocad 2004 and 2007. When trying to save the user gets the following error message "One or more objects in the drawing cannot be saved to the specified format. The operation was not completed and no file was created."
I did some searching in the discussion groups and it appears that this is a known/common issue with autcad lt 2013. Is there a work around to saving it in a format that older autocad applications can view?
in my autocad 2014 save as in 2007 & 2004 format system is not responding and not able to finish. but when i save in 2013 and 2010 format is ok. i install same copy of autocad in my laptop its working good.
my system config: operating system - w7 64bit
8gb ram and 1tb hard disk
i am using autocad 2013 student version at home and at college i am using autocad 2012. so when i create drawing in 2013,dosent open on 2012"it says incompatible version". i like to save all my dwg files automatically in 2011 format, i dont want to click save as and change it 2011 format.what i need is whenever i finsh working on drawing, if click save it should automatically save in 2011 format.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs many of us seam to do the option to save by default to an older version of AutoCAD or universal DXF format is selected, my problem is however when you save an existing drawing a prompt appears asking if 'Drawing*.dxf last saved in AutoCAD 2004 format. Save in AutoCAD 2013 Drawing format?' this has annoyed me for years!
I have set it as default DXF 2014 for a good reason I don’t want a prompt asking me if I want to then save it as 2013 or I would have set it like that on my default setting, gets on your nerves when you are doing 100's of files.

change the default position the Text Format box opens in when double clicking on text to open the editor?
I have downloaded a list of system variables but have been unable to identify a system variable to control the location of the Text Format box.
Every time I double click on text to open the text editor the Text Format box opens directly on top of the text forcing me to drag the Text Format box out of the way to be able to see what I'm typing as I edit the text.
Some one in our office pointed out that the Text Format box is defaulting to open in the center of the screen and that if I want to avoid the conflict I should zoom or pan to a point where the text I wat to edit is not in the center of the screen. This is a major PITA that requires significant retraining as I ALWAYS zooom and pan to place what I am editing in the center of the screen. Twenty two years of AutoCAD use creates habits that are difficult to alter. I would think most people would do this by default and having the Text Format box default to opening in the center of the screen was a rather shortsighted choice by the programmer.
Shouldn't the placement of the Text Format box be relative to the location of the text chosen for editing, say above or below on the screen rather than defaulting to a set location?
I have a situation where I need to rather quickly open a jpeg file, make color corrections, and then "save for web" to a new location as a jpeg file.
Everythihg's working fine except that when I go to save the file, Photoshop always defaults to HTML format. So I need to go to the file type and change it to HTML, and then go to the filename and rename the extension from html to jpg -- all this before I can save each file. And when I'm doing 15-20 files at a time, it becomes annoying quickly.
Is there any way I can tell Photoshop I always want to save web photos as jpegs?
I'm new to Paint.net.
Until recently, I was using the paint app of Windows 7. However, the office changed my laptop to a PC running Windows XP SP3.
I do a lot of documentation work and part of my job requires me to save screenshots for posterior use in product manuals.
My situation is this:
I have to save in .bmp format (office policy) and, by default, Paint.net saves in .png format.
Is there any way to set the Save default format to .bmp or any other format?
Secondly, when I save a file that contains a period in its name (for example "ch2.p16" - chapter 2, page 16), it will save the file but not in the format selected. Instead, Paint.net assumes that anything after the period is the file extension. Thus, the file is saved as "ch2.p16" with a file type of "p16".
Is there any way to bypass this glitch other than having to avoid using periods in the file name? (I've attached an image)
Is there a way I can change the default file format from .xcf?
For example, I open a jpeg, crop it and try to save, but if I then try to save it as a jpeg I get a message telling me I have to 'export' first.
I know the Gimp isn't Photoshop but in Photoshop you get the option to choose the file extension at save or save as without the added step of exporting.
Is there a setting somewhere that allows me to choose as this messing around exporting from .xcf is a real drag when you're editing a lot of images. Plus you can end up with extra, unwanted, .xcf files.
Is there a reason why the Gimp defaults to .xcf for every file edit? It seems unneccesary when all you're doing is a simple crop etc.
Again Photoshop opens, allows edits and then saves in the original's file format, which does make for a more efficient workflow. Plus it doesn't default to .psd for every edit.I'm using Gimp 2.8 with Fedora 17 64bit and will now boot into Windows to work more efficiently in Photoshop till I can find a way to change this in Gimp. There doesn't seem to be anything in Preferences relating to file formats/extensions.
I just spotted that some of my photos that I've edited in Photoshop from Lightroom are a whopping 450MB. Looking deeper I found that they are saved as uncompressed TIFF files, this despite the default save format for Photoshop in Lightroom's preferences being set to ZIP compressed TIFF files. So why doesn't this setting work and how can I make Photoshop save things compressed?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSeems that the Save format keeps getting changed back to 2010 in AutoCAD 2013. We set the Save Preferences to save as 2013 in the Options > Open & Save > File Save: Save As box to 2013.
It seems that if you open an older version of AutoCAD, say v2010, then the next time you want to save a drawing (not necessarily the drawing you just opened, but another one you are working on) even if it was already in v2013, it gets saved back to v2010. And when you go back into the options dialog, it now is set to save everything as v2010. This wouldn't be so annoying if it didn't take 30 seconds to save the drawing as a v2010 drawing. There is a substantial difference in the time it takes to save a drawing to v2010 when using AutoCAD 2013.
Is there a way to make it stick to saving as a v2013 format?
Every time I go to save a scan it defaults to Bitmap and I have to then scroll down and select jpeg. How can I make jpeg the default setting?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with bringing in points from Autocad Civil 3d 2014 into older drawing files. Is there any way to do this and the points show up? when I bring the points in as .AUF or PENZD format, they do not show up... Is there any solution for this? or would I have bring the points into a blank drawing file, then xref the aforementioned points into the drawing I need them in? I have had this problem multiple times.. I have checked the regular solutions(Point styles, point groups, layers, froze, etc...) and they still wont show up..
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy AutoCAD 2013 crashed and as a result the recovered file was saved in 2013 format, instead of my automatic save profile option version set to AutoCAD 2000.
As we have other users in the office without AutoCAD 2013, how do i change the default crash save to a newer version (ie. AutoCAD 2000)?
When trying to open very old Corel Files (created in 1992), I get an error message stating that the format cannot be accessed. Is there a way to convert these older files (perhaps originally made with Corel 1 or 2) with a ulitity,so that they will open in CorelDraw X3?

I have drawings (some with more than one sheet) from inventor 10. Now I like to open it in inventor 2013. The first sheet is showing, but I can't open the other sheets. I can print them, but I can see a listing of it or go to the sheet.
FYI, until December 2012 I worked in Inventor 10, now I have inventor 2013, so everything is new to me.
Why the Autobackup in X5 is older than the last save. I wonder how many people are losing work because they save over their original file after a crash.

We always change everything to fraactional instead of decimal.

I am having a problem opening older sheet sets from AutoCAD 2014.
I can select the .dst file, but when it "opens" I onlly have the icon in the seet set manager and nothing else, it is entirely blank.
I made a new sheet set, but now older versions of AutoCAD cannot read that one.
I have an auto CAD DWG sent to me with a 2013 FORMAT, and i can't open it with 2010 AutoCAD.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have loaded copies of AutoCAD Architecture 2013 on several workstations. We had tried brining over older profiles (from 2008)- which did not work, so made up new ones. ANYTIME we go into the profile settings to load a different profile beyond the default, AutoCAD Architecture (US Imperial), eventually while working the program will crash. We've wiped out installations of the program, registry and all, and re-installed without brining over any prior data. Same issue.
Even when using a seperate "default" profile us as (Global) or (Metric)- same issues. The problem with staying/modifying the workspace for the US Imperial is it will not load the complete menus with the MENULOAD command (only loads EXPRESS). If we work within the (US Imperial), no crashing, but again, the menus are not available within that profile for some reason, so that is not an acceptable solution.
I have generated frame that has 100 members in it. Is there a quicker way of changing G_L unit to a mm so that I don't have to go into all 100 parts to change the custom properties? also I do not need unit string to be appear in my BOM.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOver the years I have had to occassionally save (export) an Inventor idw into an AutoCAD dwg file. Now, at IV version 2013, does it still not happen correctly. Why doesn't the process export the title block, border, notes, etc. into AutoCAD's paper space and export the model and dimensions into model space all in one step. It's either all paper space or all model space. Then I have to spend time to correct the AutoCAD drawing. Is there a better method to do this that results in a correct AutoCAD drawing in one export step? Maybe a third party software?
