AutoCAD Civil 3D :: How To Import Survey In PNEZD Text Format
Jul 20, 2012I am a C3D newbie using a clients template file and trying to figure out how to import our survey in PNEZD txt format. The template files I am working with are from WDOT and have many items set up including Point Styles, Label Styles, Description Key Sets, Figure Styles and Layers. I am having trouble figuring out exactly what each of these control/do what I need to create. I know that WDOT uses C3D for design and they translate survey from Cacie to C3D.
I have setup an Equipment Database and Linework Code Set that matches how we code things in the field (Begin=ST, Begin/End Curve= PC/PT, etc.). I am confused as to what exactly the Figure Prefix Database does and how it relates to the other Styles. I have put these in a network folder.
My first attempt using Import Survey Data with the latest WDOT .dwt file produces lines (survey figure) that are all Style=Standard and Layer=0. The points (Cogo Point) are all Style=P RW Circle Filled and Layer=P_MISC.
I also tried the same procedure on an earlier version (Dec. 2011) of the .dwt. This produced lines that had the correct Style and Layer. The points that were NOT shots taking along linework (such as a ground shot, manhole, sign) came in with the correct Style and Layer. What is wrong are the points (shots) that are along the lines (edge of sidewalk, storm sewer, edge of lane) have the Style=<default> (which shows as the P RW Circle Filled symbol) and Layer=P_MISC.
This is all overwhelming me. I feel that it is fairly close though, using the old template.I am not sure what would have changed between the two to produce such different outputs.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: How To Unlock The Locked Survey Data In Survey Databases
Nov 19, 2013I copied some Survey Data of AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 for Surveyors to my C3D 2013 machine few weeks ago. Now I cannot do the "Import point file" of the Survey2 Data B in Survey Databases, because the Survey2 Data B is locked up - see the attached file that has a red circle with an arrow on. How I can unlocked the locked Survey 2 Data in the Survey Databases.

May 3, 2012here's my process:
1- Import the asc file into my drawing.
2- Convert the asc file to a FBK file
3- Import my FBK file. The survey figure linework generated doesn't overlay my previously imported asc file. I checked the FBK file and the coord's match the asc file. I'm confused as to why the survey figures don't overlay the survey points from the asc file, since the coords match in both? The survey figures are all shifted .7' and 54deg. from the points. The elevations are all good on the survey figures, as they match the survey points.
So my quick fix is to explode the survey figures, since I don't really need them for what I'm doing, and then select all the 3d polylines and move them to them to an appropriate survey point. Everything then looks fine and I can get the job done.
However, I would like some insight as to why this might be happening. It's strange that the FBK and asc coordinates match, but the survey figures aren't lying over them.

Mar 21, 2013I've been working on a project for a bit and so far everything had been working correctly. But recently I must have mistakenly changed a setting I don't know about because now I am experiencing an issue.
When I am trying to enter a unit at the pointer, for example, the length of a line I am creating, if I use a space, AutoCAD seems to be treating it as ENTER and thus I can not specify my unit correctly.
In other words, if I want my line to be 3'-9 5/8" in length, I can type in 3'-9, but as soon as I hit the space bar in order to type in the 5/8" AutoCAD automatically finishes my line at a length of 3'-9".

Nov 6, 2013I am used to entering my fillet radius dimensions in the command line with [F]illet, [R]adius, then entering a value.
However with 2014 an extra prompt has been added (or enabled) which would mean the path was [F]illet, [D]imension, [Radius], value. I was getting frustrated with this and tried fiddling with the settings ([F]illet, [S]ettings) but could not sort it, and now when I do go to enter a dimension the only option I am left with is to "Select fillet arc", meaning I have lost the ability to enter a value in the command line.
How do I regain the ability to enter a numerical value for a radius?

Oct 1, 2012I want record a macro to update a title block. We've revised the formatting of our title block. The block name is the same, only some appearances change.
I noticed in the insert command, "You can replace an existing block definition with an external file by entering block name=file name." This would be great. I could just type in the block name and the file name and AutoCAD would replace the current with the new version in the file. Then do an ATTSYNC and we're done.

The path and the block name both have spaces in them. Is there any way to make AutoCAD stop taking the space as a return?

May 10, 2012I've update AutoCAD 2012 to AutoCAD 2013 and I have a problem when I type "L" or "C" to draw a line or a circle, the command line says "Unknown command "L". Press F1 for help". It's the same thing if I fully type the command "line" or "Circle". But some other commands works normally.

Nov 7, 2013I was wondering if there is a way for me to setup Autocad so that instead of putting in S 88d20'12" W I could put in something like S88.20.12W so that I don't have to mess with apostrophes or "d." Also, can i do something similar with distance settings? Where instead of saying 5'-6 1/2" I can say 5.6.1/2. I know I could convert the measurements into decimals, but that would waste the time I would be saving with a faster input method.

Nov 14, 2012As many of us seam to do the option to save by default to an older version of AutoCAD or universal DXF format is selected, my problem is however when you save an existing drawing a prompt appears asking if 'Drawing*.dxf last saved in AutoCAD 2004 format. Save in AutoCAD 2013 Drawing format?' this has annoyed me for years!
I have set it as default DXF 2014 for a good reason I don’t want a prompt asking me if I want to then save it as 2013 or I would have set it like that on my default setting, gets on your nerves when you are doing 100's of files.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Dynamic Input Interrupts Object Snap?
May 21, 2013I am having this problem for the first time with my most recent install of 2014 on a Windows 8 computer. When copying a line or any other object along another line as a base, when I type the distance that I want to copy the object, it deselcts the autosnap vector that I had specified. For example, now when I copy an object along a line at various intervals, I have to move my mouse after entering the distance each time to enable the object snap to reselect the direction I want to copy it (along a line that should stay selected through the object snap: nearest).
Is there some object snap or dynamic input setting that I need to change?

Dec 15, 2010We process survey data using Attributes to add extra intelligence and reduce errors.
For example, when shooting trees, the RAW file will contain something like this:
SS,OP 50,FP1299,AR308.2057,ZE91.0918,SD128.282,--TREE

AT,TNTY,TVMAPLE
or when shooting a street sign:
SS,OP 50,FP1437,AR324.1135,ZE91.4728,SD123.235,--SIGN
FC,PN1437,FNSIGN
AT,TNTY,TVNO PARKING
The FC code sets up that attribute information will follow for the point number indicated by PN and the FN is basically explaining the name of the feature type. On the collector, this is all menu driven, making for few data entry errors.
The AT codes list the attributes name TN and then the TV reports its value.
Is there a way to preserve these attributes and their data when processing them into an FBK? Ideally, they would need to become part of a point description.
When processing this for that "other" CADD package, I am able to use these values in building labels for my survey points.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Creating EG From Survey?
Mar 15, 2013I was curious what the basic workflow is for creating an EG from a survey. The catch is that we don't have a point file or elevated points on the drawing. The drawing is just that a drawing with spot elevations and linework. The lot is 100' long and 30' wide. An existing house takes up most of the lot with a street on the front and back. The idea is to try making a grading plan after I figure this first part out. Where would I begin with something like this to figure out the next step of grading a small lot?

Aug 18, 2009I was following Civil 3D 2008 Education Curriculum Module 04-Survey on how to import field books, create points and figures, insert them into the drawing, and then (per page 04-35), remove the network from the drawing.
Now I have a serious problem, and cannot add any new Networks. The "Name" and "Description" appears, but there is no place for a cursor entry.
Do I have to re-install the program?

Say I want to start a line a distance of 3 from another line using Otrack and a running endpoint snap. Before, I could just hover over the existing line's endpoint, move the cursor in the right direction, and enter 3 on the keyboard. Now in 2013, I need to have Dynamic Input (F12) turned on to get this behavior. 2012 was not this way.

And I will change name of layer 0 to 도면층1.
But I can not input unicode character to command prompt.
But It was changed from property dialog.
Can I input unicode character from command prompt?.
Previous version(AutoCAD 2008,2009,2010,2012) CAD worked well.

Feb 23, 2012i have a point file specifically a PNEZD file. when i import points into the survey database the coordinate in the database is correct but the coordinate on the drawing tends to be 5 feet off one way and 1 foot off the other. When I import point through the points pull-down menu the coordinates are correctly shown. When I import point into survey database from drawing the coordinate is incorrect in the database but correct on screen.

Apr 23, 2012My company has upgraded to new computers recently (Windows 7, Civil 3d 2012). Some of the new computers are unable to access ANY survey database for edit. They can be opened read only, but the option of opening for edit isn't even available. The old computers we have CAN open the same databases for edit. We have attempted repairing/reinstalling, but to no avail. All the new computers were cloned from 1 original.

May 6, 2012I'm exploring the option of going from normal autocad and PDS (for our road designs) to fully using Civil 3D 2013.
Generally we only recieve a survey drawing as a 2d cad file with height points represented as 2d text.
In PDS all we need do is 'convert text to point' and create a ground model, this gives us a 3d ground mesh to work with.
In Civil 3d i've found 'movetexttoelevation' but now i'm stuck with adding a point at the node of the text object, and then I need to creat a surface model to overlay a 2d siteplan andstart creating our roads.

Jul 25, 2013I had an issue where I dropped points into my drawing for a survey and they weren't at the distance compared to recorded plat. I have checked the points mathematically, and they were dead on. A coworker suggested that I WBLOCK the points I was working with that way I don't move single points out of place. I disagreed, because the way i move points is I use the TOOLSPACE and move them as a group. So what I did was to drop the points again and now they were dead on the second time. I don't like turning points into a block due to the fact that it messes up my drawing.
