I have a block in a drawing that will not update after re-insertion of the updated copy of said block (Wait, does that make sense?)
Scenario: Floor plan with the room as a block. I go to the actual block drawing and edit it. I then try to re-insert it into the existing drawing, but the drawing still uses the same block that was originally inserted.
How to update the “title block” being inserted as Xref?
I wanted to update the title block (inserted as Xref) as some changes occur in the original dwg but sounds not to work.
How the Xref is updated so that all changes in its original source can be reflected automatically?

I created a dynamic block to represent a room in a floor plan. It displays the dimensions and area of the room and can be stretched. But it's defeating the whole point of being dynamic. The area won't update unless I do a regen.
I've seen comments blaming MTEXT for the problem, so I tried putting the area field in a line of TEXT or DTEXT. It still didn't update unless I did a regen.

I would like to change sub block from a visibility after setting it. Here an example of code to get the right visibility, I don't really know how to update a sub block by name or by handle(seems to change inside dynamic block).

We use a number of blocks with block tables for data extraction here, and whenever one of the blocks is modified and updated, all of the block tables reset to the default value. This happens for any block reference change, not just changes to the block table (which makes sense that it would reset).
How can we update these blocks without having to manually change all of the block tables afterwards?
I am in the process of fixing one of our dynamic blocks. It's a fairly simple fix where there was a typo in one of the names of our items in the lookup that needed to be fixed.
I changed the name of the item in the lookup table. I went and did the test block and it seemed to work fine, but when I bring the block into a drawing, it reverts back to the old lookup as if I did nothing at all.
I made sure that the path was correct and I even just dragged and dropped straight from Windows Explorer to no avail.Does AutoCAD keep referring to the old block? Did I forget to change something else?
my problem is whenever i make a new block a stretch point appears even if its not a dynamic block . also its not a stretch point, because when i click on it, it just move the block , and it always appear on the coordinates 0,0 it cause me a problem when I insert the block , autocad use this point as a base point , and its very far from the real block .

So when i need to make a change to a block, i make the change to the block in the folder and it automatically updates the block in all drawings? Is it possible to set this up without using xrefs, as i have hundreds of blocks.

Drawing 1 : Contains tree blocks that have a specific scale dependant on the tree size
Drawing 2 : Contains a block with just a point and attribute data about the tree (name, size etc.)
This block is approximatly at the same location as the tree block (0,1 m precision)
Problem I want to join these two items together. In other words, in the tree block that is scaled correctly i want the attribute data with the name, size etc. These blocks don't have a corresponding unique number or something like that.
I use a block more than 50times in a plan, now a need to udate my attribute (color of text) but i have moving those attributes in function of the position on plan.
Can i use battman to make a update of my blok/attribute...but i need that all attribute stay at the same position on plan?

Now I have an alignment that has stations set every 10 units and on those stations I have inserted the block "test" as part of the alignment label style.
I can get the block inserting correctly, rotation the direction I require etc but what I need is for this block to report the station number.. ie 10, for the first 20 for the second and so on.

I want to be able to update a dynamic block with data from our SQL Server database using a VB.NET program.
The dynamic block is configured to show office locations and has the associated office addresses for each office location embedded within the block. However, over time, offices close, new offices are added, addresses change, and so on. Plus, we have a dynamic block in each sheet size for several template types. So, updating them remotely would be a huge advantage. I'd like to just click a button, and know that the offices in the blocks were up to date and accurate.
Currently, I can use VLISP and the DBX technology to open each file and change the addresses. But, I cannot figure out how to change the visibility state (office name) in the prompt list. Anyhow, I want to drive the changes from a VB external application rather than having to open AutoCAD and run a LISP routine. So...

I've got a block with multiple attributes. This is not a problem to redefine the blocks attributes.
Some of the attributes contains dynamic fields (blockplace holder x y z parameters) When i insert a block with such atributes that includes the blockplaceholder dynamic fields i get
X: InsertionPoint => It is recognized as an Dynamic field but displays InsertionPoint. and does not update the value.

I would like to create a lisp that does the following:
Update a titleblock attribute with a $variable.
The titleblockname is variable / not static.
The attribute is not variable / Static, DW_SCALE
The titleblock is always places on the same layer, BL$4----
The (custom)-plotscale is stored in the $var "gvpsc".
I've tried to ajust the following lisp code. But I couldn't extract the part I need.
The problem is, the code checks all the layouts and updates all the titlblocks one by one.
Truely a good code.

I am looking for some code or something which can change the title block revisions from "01" to "02" in multiple drawings.
The title block revision block is set in attributes.
I'm trying to find a routine that will look for ABC block and updates its NUM attributes depending on what's shown in the DESC attribute. There are about 5 of these ABC blocks in a drawing. Block ABC has 2 sets of attributes: DESC and NUM.
When run, it will look at the value of tag DESC, if it contains value XXX, then it will change the NUM value to 1111. And if DESC contains value YYY, then it will change the NUM value to 2222.
I have a basic floor plan in AutoCAD 2012 that has blocks in specific locations which contain personel data....name, phone, computer tag, desk key numbers, etc. I extracted the data to an Excel spreadsheet and I thought set up a "data link". But I don't know how to make the data update.
My problem...moves of staff, phone, computers are often made, but no one lets me know about it until they want a new floor plan printed and the computer and key tags get so messed up from the moves that it can take me hours to fix.
My goal is to be able to have our secretarial staff update the spreadsheet and in turn update the blocks in my AutoCAD drawing when it is opened and/or "updated".
I have a job where some one has manually written valves into the titleblock fileds that should be coming from sheetset manager is there a way to reinsert the titleblock and have the fields come back.

I very much dislike that AutoDesk made it so easy to edit the project wide description lines and left almost no way to customize the per-drawing section in the same way. One would think if you making a product to fill the need of many industries you would add a way to customize it from vanilla?
I'm looking for an option to keep master or source blocks together in one file that when changes need to be made I can just update them once and those changes reflect immediately in drawings containing said blocks. I had thought that the wblock command was used for this but it seems to just be another way to insert blocks similar to the design center.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having problems with the automatic field updates. I've made a dynamic block with a length parameter "LENGTE (mm)" and a stretch action. In this block I also made a Attribute "LENGTE" the value of this attribute is linked to the length of the parameter with a field. The system variable "FIELDEVAL" is 31, so when I save or plot, or ..., the value of the attribute will be updated to the exact length of the parameter.
Now when I insert the block and stretch the parameter to a desired length and I save the drawing the attribute is updated and it has the same value as the parameter. But when I close the drawing and I open it again AutoCAD changes this value to ###. I tried the command "UPDATEFIELD" but the value doesn't come back. I have made a command string "c^c^_fieldeval;0;0;save;close" so that when i close the drawing AutoCAD sets the system variable FIELDEVAL to 0 then saves it and closes the drawing, so when I open the drawing again AutoCAD doesn't update the fields. That solved the problem. When I open the drawing again, I made a command to put the fieldeval back to the default value "31", so when I change the length parameter the attribute "LENGTE" will be updated again after a save or a plot. But then it goes wrong and AutoCAD changes the value back in ###. What is the reason that AutoCAD can't update that field, it works fine when the drawing stays open but when the drawing has been closed and I open it again it doesn't work anymore?
I am using several blocks within a drawing (furniture...stock racking, to be precise). I had additional information to add as a new attribute. Opened the block in Block Editor, added the new attribute and saved changes. No change to any of the instances of that block in the drawing? But when I add the same block to the drawing, all new instances have the new information.....which means the block exists, with exactly the same name, in the same drawing in two different forms??? How is this possible and why do the old instances of the block not update to match the current version.
Even more confusing is that if I open an 'old' version of the block in Block Editor....it appears with the new attribute in place and when I close it (saving changes).....it no longer shows that attribute!
Can find no mention of a switch or default that might be causing this.
I'm updating drivers for Computers with Nividia Quadro 4000 video cards. I went to the Nvidia website and found two drivers. one I found that was certified for AUTOCAD 2013 and the version is 310.50. And another driver for the video card version is 311.50. should i download the newest version or the ACAD Certified version? Could the "Certified" version download not be current? Are there any drawbacks from one to the other?

In the Knowledge Base there is a fix but it doesn't apply to ACAD 13 as the file names are different. Which file I need to change the permissions on in ACAD 13 and in what folder it may be hiding.

When some off our users move the dimensions in paperspace or the drawing in modelspace,
only some off the dimensions would see the viewports scale factor, and multiply itself by that, from my knowledge this happens when you uses the power dimensioning in Mechanical, and the the annotative tick box is selected, but for some reason one particular user he uses normal annotations when dimensioning, where there is no annotative functionally but the dimension still behave as mentioned.

Vault: Files are not displayed if opened in Detail view. Must go to the Incon view to display files. Then, switching back to Detail view, file (Vault) status is not shown. If click "Get/Check IN" on file, Vault will crash and shut down. More recently, an HTTP 404: Not Found error appears when clicking on files - may disappear after a wait or clicking on the file repeatedly.
Inventor: Cannot access any files through the Vault tab - Inventor crashes and shuts down. If file opened from Vault instead, it will open and can be saved, checked In/Out.
All of this started a couple of weeks ago shortly after installing Windows Updates. It occurs only on my machine. No other Vault/Inventor user is having any problems. Two IT techs spent a week trying to solve the problem. The only solution was to unistall and reinstall everything including Windows 7. It worked great for a week until another Windows update was installed - now back to the same problems.
Tried to do something that all other 3D softwares seem to have no problem with, even inventor at least when we were using the old versions.
Editting sketch - close sketch. No model update.
This is an existing 3D model created with inv2011. inv2013 does not like much of what we created in the old releases of inv.
Sketch gives me 1 dimension. Part and drawing give the old dimension value.
This is yet another major sign of unstable software. Over 24 software issues discovered from changing inv2011 to inv2013.
