I'm looking for an option to keep master or source blocks together in one file that when changes need to be made I can just update them once and those changes reflect immediately in drawings containing said blocks. I had thought that the wblock command was used for this but it seems to just be another way to insert blocks similar to the design center.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've tried doing a block that automatically updates the X and Y coordinates from its moveable leader. I can get it to work in model space or paper space. But my problem is I want it to work in PS, but update with the MS coordinates through the viewport.
I can get it to update, by LISP, by picking a point and passing the points to the blocks attributes. At the moment I have a LISP when actioned it locks the viewports, activates the viewport, and asks you to select a point. Once selected it de-activates the viewport (going back into layout tab) then asks which block you want to update. Where you now select the block and it updates the coordinates. I.e. manually pick the point in MS, switch to PS and then manually pick the block. Then I have to manually modify the leader to the correct location.
I'm hoping that I can (In PS) move the end of the leader to snap to a position in MS and the coord updates to reflect the correct MS coordinates. I'm thinking that maybe this can't be done automatically and that I maybe can move the leader but I'm not sure how I can do it without running a LISP to update the block?
I'd be happy moving the leader then just running a single command and the leader coordinates updating without having to select the points and the block again.

I need one desc key that will update in all drawings. I am just getting started and I have a drawing template where for the most part I keep the desc key updated. I am just starting a new project and will make revisions and additions as I go to the desc key. If I make the change in my working drawing it doesn't update 'universally' just in that one drawing. Is there a way to have one 'master' that updates as you go? I have tried to drag and drop to keep one or the other up to date but that doesn't work. Also, there will eventually be 2 additional users so how will that work if we all can't use the same master description key?

I am trying to update blocks for a client. Each block has a line of text with the block name in it. I would like to automate these with a field so that if the block name changes or a new block is created from that one, then the field would update as well. I am running AutoCAD LT 2012 currently.

Sheet sets are being used with this project but I can't think of a way to make it work with the existing sheet set technology.
I would like to change sub block from a visibility after setting it. Here an example of code to get the right visibility, I don't really know how to update a sub block by name or by handle(seems to change inside dynamic block).

I am using AutoCAD 2013 on Windows 7 platform
95% of the blocks on the palettes have the images associated, and named, per the block name.
I have 48 blocks that the images are named like this "Block tool_F2149212-4649-41F5-95E6-4A978EC376F5_2".
I have tried resaving the blocks and recreating the blocks to no avail.
How to get these few blocks to have images that are associated with the actual block name and not the generic "block_too" name?
I am setting up a template and want my page #s to automatically update when i copy a tab. How is this done? I currently have my "Total Sheets" as a field and that works out fine but often need to add/ remove a sheet to/from drawing and would like the page #s to update.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have written some VB code which updates parameters in a model. I would like the code to update the shaft parameters. The shaft is created using the shaft generator. I can use a parameters to set the lengths, diameters and fillets. But when the parameter updates the length stays the same. If I open the shaft assembly, click 'edit using design accelerator' and then click 'ok' in the window the shaft updates. Is there anyway to do this automatically?, maybe through iLogic or API?

I have a block definition with several attributes. I would like to pick a (predefined) value for each of the attribute. Making just one block properties table means that I need to fill all the possible combinations of these attributes.
I have been trying to get a list of xrefs contained within a drawing to auto update by using Rtext.
I have got as far as using the following diesel expression.
Xref's in this file are indicated as - Xref name [Filepath]

This gives me more or less what I want but I dont want to show the file path. What changes to the expression I need to do to achieve this.
Using Inventor 2012. I have created a parts list in my .idw that is tied to a .iam Assembly file. In the .iam file I have two instances of the assembly, where one hides certain parts, the other hides others. I can manually tell the parts list which instance I want it to read (see attached image), however, is there a way to have it update automatically? I.e. when I go in to my .iam file and activate one or the other, save the file, then the parts list will auto update itself to include the correct items? Everything else from part names to iProperties auto update in the list, so I'm curious if it can read the correct assembly instance.

I have a problem with using the excel spreadsheet to hold my parameters and then making them auto update in the model.
I have the excel 2003 spreadsheet saved in the same folder in the projects directory as the model. When I create the spreadsheet and enter the parameters and values etc I save and close the file.
When I am in inventor 2013 64 bit with SP1 installed, I open the model and can link the spreadsheet to the model and the model reflects the values in the spreadsheet. I also click update on the parameters dialog box.
I then open the spreadsheet and make some changes to the values, save the file and even go to the extreme of closing the file. When I go back into Inventor it recognises there has been some changes in the underlying spreadsheet. The update button is active in the tool bar. However trying to update the models by what ever means does not update the model parameters to those in the spreadsheet. Even closing the model and reopening it does not make a difference.
The only way I can get this to work is disconnecting the file and then reconnecting the file through the links option in the parameters dialog box. Then the model reflects the correct values and updates the model accordingly.
My concern is there is quite a bit of stuff on the net about 2013 not working with 2014 inventor anyway.
I have created a dynamic block that allows me to change the width and depth by stretch. I have text that the user is prompted to input. I want the text to always be center in the middle of the block no matter how far I pull it left or right. How do I keep it locked in the midpoint of the block.

I don't want to have the original files on both laptop and desktop.
I want to make a copy of a Lightroom 3 catalog to put on my laptop so while on the move I can be geo-tagging and keywording to 8000 photographs. I don't want to drag an external drive with me. I just want to be able to work on the catalog metadata and have all the updates/changes stored there (on the laptop)(in the catalog) and then transfer the catalog back to the desktop (to the primary archive) and have all the updates/changes pushed back into the DNG's or the XMP sidecar files alongside the CR2's. These changes would be only keywording and possibly writing GPS data into them….NOT image edits (that would probally require access to the original image files)
As a test, I tried "exporting as catalog", TWO images (with the source images "unavailable"). I flash-drived the resulting catalog to my laptop. I opened the catalog in LR3 and made changes to the metadata. I tried both "saving metadata to file" and "updating DNG previews" (which would be useless anyway since I could not write data back to the missing originals) and also tried doing nothing and just closing LR, then pulling the flashdrive and plugging it into the DESKTOP.(knowing the changes are stored within the catalog itself only) I open the 2 picture catalog in LR and see the keyword updates. Hurrah!
I switch over to the master catalog. All I want to do is import the updated metadata (keywording, contrast, etc…) back into the master catalog and push the data into the original DNG or XMP. On import I select "replace: Metadata and develop settings only" (with or without "preserve old settings" checked) and click import. Voila! NOTHING HAPPENS and the updated keywords are NOT picked up.
I know that the metadata updates were carried out because they showed up when I opened it separately in LR! For some reason they don't seem to making through the import process to the master catalog…
At my last job, the CAD manager there had certain blocks which, upon insertion, automatically selected the rotate command. i.e., as soon as you click to place the block, it was free rotating.
I've search for the answer, but everything just tells me how to put the rotate command inside the dynamic block, but I don't know how to make it "auto-jump" to that immediately upon insertion.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have our options set to Auto Publish on Save (Autocad 2011). On some of our stations, the PDF will pop up automatically. This is what we WANT to happen. On other stations, the pdf has to be found and then opened to make sure it is correct. (this step, which is apparently way to difficult for some people, is not being performed, leading to extra work/time later to complete the project) I had everyone ensure their DWGtoPDF.pc3 custom properties was set to "open in PDF viewer when done" (and when they do a straight plot, it does come right up) It just wont do it when its thru Auto Publish. Mine is one of them that comes up just fine....I have looked at every setting I have and tried to compare with theirs, but it all looks the same.

I am using several blocks within a drawing (furniture...stock racking, to be precise). I had additional information to add as a new attribute. Opened the block in Block Editor, added the new attribute and saved changes. No change to any of the instances of that block in the drawing? But when I add the same block to the drawing, all new instances have the new information.....which means the block exists, with exactly the same name, in the same drawing in two different forms??? How is this possible and why do the old instances of the block not update to match the current version.
Even more confusing is that if I open an 'old' version of the block in Block Editor....it appears with the new attribute in place and when I close it (saving changes).....it no longer shows that attribute!
Can find no mention of a switch or default that might be causing this.
