AutoCAD 2013 :: 2013 To 2014 Hatch Pattern File Migration?
Jul 1, 2013
I have been migrating dozens and dozens of .pat files from one version of AutoCAD to the next for many, many versions. Most recently in AutoCAD 2013 the .pat files were stored in the C:Program FilesAutodeskAutoCAD 2013SupportPatterns - worked fine. During the migration to 2014 I received an install error report stating that this subdirectory did not exist and could not be created. Alternately it stated that the new default path C:UsersUsernameAppDataRoamiongAutodesk|AutoCAD 2014R19.1enuSupport will be used instead.
At first I created the Patterns subdirectory where it could not be done automatically. No luck. Then I placed the Patterns subdirectory in C:UsersUsernameAppDataRoamiongAutodesk|AutoCAD 2014R19.1enuSupportPatterns and no luck.
We've finally nibbled the bullet and upgraded to 2014. I'm getting errors in the Task Scheduler logs about missing files in various projects. It would appear that (almost) without exception, the failed files are all Content Center parts that were inserted as custom parts. Do I need to run a migration on the Content Center parts (Inventor/ContentCenter Files/R2013/en-US) in order for the custom parts to migrate properly?
I've got a recurring problem with using hatch patterns on 2013. Importing a new hatch pattern more than often than not results in Inventor winding up the memory usage on the PC to bursting point as it runs through "Calculating containment of profile areas" that seems to be called when previewing a hatch pattern.
The problem seems to be with more complex patterns (I'm using a stone wall type hatch - mountainledge.PAT is a prime example) and I think the issue is related to the scaling factor used. IF you remember to wind the scale up BEFORE trying to preview the pattern you can get away with a few minutes of down time, but if you leave the scale at 1 its goodnight!
It would be nice if Inventor could warn you (a bit like it does if you foolishly opt for a huge part array) becasue not only do you lose your inventor files but also any other unsaved app data as in my case my Dell M6500 PC just dies as all available memeory just gets swallowed up.
Perhaps I should try multiplying the co-ords in the PAT file by 25.4 as it could be that we use the poorer cousin of the good old inch system. metric???
We have always made extensive use of File Linking our Autocad (2009) models into 3dsmax. I seem to have found a stability issue when migrating from a Max2012 scene that includes a file linked Autocad file to Max2013.
When you Reload the linked file with 'Show Reload Options' ticked, and then click on the Advanced tab and then on 'Select Layers to include...', Max will crash. It seems to do this every time.
This only seems to happen with Max scenes that have begun in Max2012.
I have been searching for a variation of the AR-B816 standard hatch pattern for a while with no luck. I would like the same 1:2 ratio only in a stacked bond, not running.
I have a Hatch in my drawing with Pattern as Solid on the top of an image. I made it transparent and it looks really nice in my screen, but as soon as I print either in PDF or hard copy the transparency feature disappear. How is possible to print my Hatch -with Solid as Pattern- with the transparency active either in PDF and hard copy?
My autocad hatch pattern gradient slot appears black suddenly i can't see any colors in these slots. See attached JPG of AutoCAD 2013 hatch diag screenshot.
I want to know how to make my own hatch from design till puting it in (*.pat) file. for info, I know how can I download such file and upload it in AutoCAd among (CUSTOM) or (OTHER PREDEFINED) hatchs as wel, or make it by using (SUPER HATCH in express tools). But to creat PAT file that what I want to know.
Happens every year. Upgrade and spend half a day or more trying to get everything back to the way I had it. All I have is a couple small toolbars for commands that are several clicks deep in the ribbons and I want them "right there" all the time.
I thought Autodesk 360 might be a good tool for this. All it did was DOWNLOAD some old settings and destroy one of the toolbars I'd created. They really need an override in there to specify upload, download, overwrite or don't.
I'm trying to migrate (I guess that's the technical term) my settings from 2013 Mechanical to 2014 Mechanical. It's probably too late already, after 360 did its deal, but I really want to get this down so we don't go through it every year anymore.
I maintain that PTC had this part of it down Pro/ENGINEER. You had a config file that was editable plain text.

When I try to attach a 2013 Excel file into a 2014 drawing I get a message 'You have selected an unsupported DGN File. Only V7 and V8 files are supported.' Cannot attache through the Import command either. I know in past versions you could insert the file and any changes made to the file appeared to the attachment in the drawing.
Is this no longer possible? Surely not, it is way to handy. What am I overlooking to make this happen?
I had Inventor 2013 and it worked well for a long time, I didn't use it for a while, then yesterday I tried to use it again and it wouldn't work. It starts up fine, and gets to the menu where you can choose from recent files, new files, tutorials, etc. After I select anything to open, whether its a new or old file, the program will load open the file then immediately stop working. No error message is displayed besides Windows telling me "this program has stopped working". I updated to 2014 yesterday, and the exact same problem persists.
I recently installed Autocad 2014 with Carlson Survey 2014. When I use Etransmit or file conversion i get a Fatal Error. when i uninstall the civil 3d object enabler, the problem goes away, but i need the object enabler and i need to convert files. Is this not a major issue that Autodesk would consider important enough to address, or is the object enabler minor in comparison to other issues?
Just downloaded Autocad 2013 and am missing quite a few of the standard hatches (siding, soldier, board and batten, etc.) What should I do to get them back. When I open old drawings with these hatches in them, they load just fine...but I am unable to hatch any new areas with these hatches (because they are not listed in the hatch library)
I have a character model in Mudbox 2014. I exported the face, body and hands as individual .obj files, each at its maximum subdivision level. But in Mudbox 2013 the sculpting layers are all flattened on the main layer.
Is there an option to keep the sculpting and painting layers intact?
Is it possible to take a feature created by a pattern and reuse it to create another pattern? I have a circular part on which I have created a linear pattern (using the rectangular pattern feature) of holes, 6 in total listed as 3 ccurrences. if we number the holes 1-6, I would like to make a circular pattern based off holes 2 and 5. I have been unable to figure out how to select the individual "occurrence" related to the hole once in the pattern feature. If I create the circular pattern first and then the linear and try to suppress the others it supresses both holes in the occurrence.
Trying to utilize a .sid file within Standard AutoCAD 2013, all suggestions point to an Object Enabler but notice that for 2013 all are for Civil 3D, Plant...
In my AutoCAD 2014, after selecting a grip on an object or a point it will snap to other grip points even when osnap is turned off. Is there a command or variable to turn what appears to be an auto grip snap function off?
I'm a student at lone star college in houston, and I'm working on a set of piping plans in autocad 2013. I just downloaded a student version of autocad 2014. I wanted to know if I can work on my plans in both the 2013 and 2014 versions without any hiccups or issues.
I am using AutoCAD 2014 trial version. There are no hatch patterns included that I know of. Is there any way to experiment with genuine hatch patterns, cross, brick, stone, etc.
so i recently started taking an architect autocad class. our first project was nothing special but for some reason whenever i save it on my removeable usb after working on it at home, it wont open on the schools computer. it doesnt open as the specific file i wanted, but instead it opens up a blank file named drawing1.dwg. the file name does not even come up at the top of the screen.
