Jul 25, 2013I am currently using AutoCAD 2010. I'm placing some length dimensions on partial sections of a circle and the arc dimension comes straight out from the chosen points as a dimension of a flat line does. I would like it to look like an angular dimension without having to use a text override. Is there any way to change that to where the placed dimension lines follows the edges of the section instead of coming straight out?

Sep 13, 2013I'm trying to set up a company layer structure and want to use LISP. Therefore I'd like to use a template file and set every layer with it's specific linetype and color there. If I change something in the template, say the color of a layer, it should update this in the drawing when I hit the LISP command.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Plotting Layers And Lines
Aug 27, 2012I have a drawing that has xref's that some of the xref do not plot.
Import the xref it will not plot.
Insert the xref and explosed it and it will not plot.
I have check the layers that everything is on and they are set right to plot.
Never ran into these problem before working 20 years this Autodesk.
AutoCAD 2010 :: Xref Layers Do Not Print Correctly When Hiding Lines
Oct 24, 2012I am having an issue with plotting a drawing that includes an xref. I have also included an attachment as reference.
I am working in AutoCAD 2010; I have a drawing that includes another drawing as an xref. The xref is on layer “0” in model space and my titleblock, annotation and viewports are in paper space (layout tab). I am using color dependent plot styles (.STB). The xref is a 3D model created with basic AutoCAD solids representing steel shapes, there are also some line segments representing the steel centerlines. The viewport is a plan view of the 3D steel model, the view is not clipped. Since the xref contains 3D objects when I print the drawing I don't want the “hidden” lines to show up, I accomplish this by setting the viewport shade plot setting to “HIDDEN”.
Here is the problem:
When I print the drawing the xref’s layers do not print correctly but rather take on the properties of layer “0” which has a plot style of “NORMAL” so everything prints in color and with a default lineweight. I want the xref to print using the xref’s layer properties that are defined in the .STB file. One variable that changes the outcome of the printed drawing is the viewport shade plot setting.
If the viewport shade plot is set to HIDDEN the xref prints using layer “0” properties (undesired) and the3D object lines are hidden (desired). See attached Viewport #1
If the viewport shade plot is set to AS DISPLAYED the xref prints using the xref’s layer properties (desired) but the 3D object lines are not hidden (undesired). See attached Viewport #2
The ONLY difference between the two viewports is the shade plot setting, there are no layer overrides and only the xref objects are affected, the objects in paper space print as expected. This only happens with an xref or block. If I bind the xref into the drawing and explode it so the objects are “live” in the drawing everything works fine. Unfortunately I need it to work correctly with an xref.
If I use a color dependent plot style (.CTB) where the .CTB file controls the color and lineweight I am able to achieve the desired results, unfortuneatly my company is determined to use .STB files
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Inserting New Sections Into Section Views
Mar 9, 2012I had about 20 cross sections that I created multiple section views for. I added 2 cross sections (one near the beginning, one in the middle).
Can I get these new sections to insert into their proper locations (by station) with a kind of refresh of my multiple section views without having to recreate multiple section views?
I already have the section sheets lined up in viewports on layout tabs. I want to keep everything in the same place. If the only way I can add the new sections is to create multiple section views again, what's the best way to handle this? Draw some kind of cross-hairs in model space when picking where to generate them and pick on the same point every time?
AutoCAD Inventor :: Thickness Of Each Of Layers In Assembly Are Generated From Part File
Dec 13, 2013I have an assembly in which the thickness of each of the layers in an assembly are generated from a part file that is split via a sketch. I use the Make Components tool to break the part into the individual layers, which also spits out an assembly.
Is there a way to push the thickness value of these parts that will update automatically if the thickness is changed in the parent part, in order to reference this property on the drawing?

Jan 9, 2014I have added intermediate sample lines in my corridor. These sections appear in the section editor and I can make changes to the data. The changes show correctly in the section editor and section view, however, when I plot the cross sections some of these added stations do not show the overrides. They are showing the original assembly group parameters. How do I get all the cross sections to reflect the edited data from the section editor?

Jan 25, 2013I have R/W and Utility lines that I am trying to display in my cross-sections. I add them as Profile Grade Points to the Sample Lines. This works well in 4 out of 5 of my corridor drawings, however, 1 of the files does not display these lines in the cross-sections. I already checked turned-off layers and that's not it. When I check the individual Section View Properties, these alignments (& corresponding profiles) show up in the list, just not on the actual cross-section.

My section remains. We're experiencing a lot of problems of section lines and therefore sections disappearing even though we're not directly applying fix constraints, I was wandering if Inventor applies a fix constraint should geometry that a section line is constrained to disappears.

May 1, 2012I have created a road for a pit mine (which is unlike roads I have designed in the past). The road switched back towards itself and I need to daylight the cut slopes to show the limits of the mine/road cut. However, my cut/fill lines are not showing up in my cross-sections, but the plan view is showing the limits of excavation.
I assume this is because my limits are intersecting, from each of the roads, the upper and the lower. How can I get around this, or why are my cross-section lines not showing?

May 31, 2013I have imported a .dxf file of a surfboard from another program as seen below. My plan is to create various cross sections of the board in order to cut out a wooden frame. It seems like it should be simple enough but I usually use pro/engineer for any 3d stuff and I have had no luck using the section plane feature on autocad so far.

Oct 26, 2011I have a rounded rectangle with shading over multiple layers. I created a new layer on top of it, so there are 6 layers now.
I draw a rectangle on top of the button to designate the shading only area. I want to use my wand to only select the area my button and the rectangle intersects.
Is it possible to select a cross section of all layers or do I have to merge all of the buttons layers then use my wand?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Plotting Lines Using Compass Direction For Lines Angle
Apr 25, 2012i am doing a simple project making a survey plot for a piece of land that will be broken into subdivision. all measurements are of my starting point. after plotting the starting point i try to draw line that is 113 feet long and at a bearing of N 5d W i have no problem entering this data but when i hit enter it draws a straight line. now i know 5 degrees is much of an angle so i thought maybe it just looked straight and tried to plot the next point which was 542 feet from the last point at a bearing of N 39d E but once again after i put the info in and hit enter or space it would plot a line of the proper length but vertical, not the proper angle i need it at. here is how i would put in the info:
first i choose the lne command and choose my "beginning point" as that starting point for my line then i type 113<N 5d W for the length and direction and hit enter. when i do this it plots a vertical line of the proper length but wrong angle. what am i doing wrong? i have ortho set to off and idk what else to mess with
